If you and your coworkers decide to meet up at chain restaurant (rhymes with Schmuffalo Mild Wings) at noon on a week day DO NOT:

  • Snap your fingers at the wait-staff
  • Be loud and obnoxious
  • Get pretty much crapfaced within 45 minutes
  • Get cut off because of above
  • Become indignant about above
  • Try to hook up with a coworker of the opposite sex by meeting in the ladies room
  • Laugh at restaurant employee who hears you in the ladies room while she is in the stall next to you
  • Tip $4 on a $100+ bill
  • WEAR YOUR COMPANY'S LOGO POLO while doing all of this
Oh and be sure that one of your direct supervisors isn't coming in about an hour later to pick up food.   They might just hear about you being human garbage.
Did you witness this or was this a relative or something?  Or a FBG?

Forgot to mention that the couple entering the ladies room was all caught on camera/tape.

I really like the movie "drive" but as far as "I'm about to have my revenge" it's really hard to get over William Munney grabbing the whiskey as he learns about ned getting killed in Unforgiven.

I feel like the better question here is who gets #### faced in 45 minutes?
"pretty much crapfaced"     2 or 3 of them were downing some of those goofy "signature" drinks.  You know the ones where they disguise how much booze is in them with a bunch of lemonade or whatever.

Job searching, especially unforeseen, is pretty much the worst.  I'm ready to vomit.
Would you be interested in a managerial position at a distribution center for a well known retailer?  I think there might be a couple of openings coming up soon.  Just keep in mind you that most of your coworkers are not allowed to go to BWW any more.

Hell, at this point I might.  Not like I go to BWW anyway.

Unless we're talking about the Mart that belongs to Mr. Walton.  Eff that noise right in the butt.

Would love to hear the GMTAN thoughts on my Friday. Wife picks up my youngest son from school (he's 10). Bit of backstory here....tl;dr version there's a kid in class (let's call him Joe) who has throughout the year done stupid little #### to get under my kids skin, putting other kids #### in backpack, breaking pencils of his, taking stuff of out of my son's backpack etc...really stupid little #### honestly. As it's gone on for the whole year we've talked to the teacher about it with no change. About 2 weeks ago Joe duct tapes my son's trombone case closed. Talked to the teacher yet again about it, said he'll talk to the Joe and his parents etc. This week on Monday my son catches Joe putting glue on his spoon at lunch, we talked to the teacher again and asked him to move their desks apart and their cubbies apart (their cubbies were next to each other). Teacher said he'd talk with Joe and his parents again. That happened on Tuesday. So when my son gets in the car he he tells my wife that Joe drew a picture of him shooting my son, tells my son that this is him shooting my son. Joe then proceeds to show the entire class the picture and tell them it's Joe shooting my son. To this point we have just old my son to ignore Joe, not engage him and keep doing whatever he is doing at the moment. So my son ignores what Joe shows him, thankfully another kid in the class tells the teacher and Joe is gone for the rest of the day. My son tells us this kid has BB gun but not sure about anything else. It seems like this kid has completely focused/obsesses over my son.

We call the school as soon as my wife gets home and talks to the principal, who has to wait to to talk to the superintendent before they can tell us what the course of action is. We decide to talk to the cops about the situation, see what we should do in this situation. Wind up filing a report with them, they call Joe's parents, where we find out they do in fact have guns in the house and they may wind up doing an investigation based on the school does. We at least have a documentation trail if things continue to escalate.

The superintendent calls me back and we discuss the situation, Joe is suspended until the investigation is complete and they will let us know when and what the outcome will be. Also, I requested that Joe be put into another class for the remainder of the year, if that won't happen we will ask that our son be moved to another class.

So GMTAN is this over reaction, ok but a little over reaction, similar to what you would have done or under reaction and go scorched earth?

JFC.  As a non-parent I don't feel equipped to give advice or opinions on that, but I'm sorry you're dealing with it.  (And to me it seems you're handling appropriately.)

Seems appropriate.  I wouldn't be happy with the school either.

Is your kid capable of beating the living #### out of Joe?  Would be worth a suspension - for everybody.

Yeah he certainly is, but based on what I heard of the cops conversation with Joe's parents seems like Joe is treated with kid gloves. I certainly wouldn't have an issue with it, however now it's on record with the cops makes it a bit double edged in that this would be come retaliation and battery.

Not sure how much impact this has but the kid has cochlear implants and has always (we've known Joe since Pre-K) done whatever he wants regardless of the implications. My guess is he's treated with kid gloves at home, no discipline does whatever he wants situation.

Tough situation Hawks, I feel for your son.  How is he taking all of this?
Surprising well, he's really matured this year and has, per his words obviously, followed our advice of ignore and stay away from this kid as much as possible. He says he's ok, not scared or worried or anything.

Think my wife is taking it harder than him, and it's got me rattled a bit. It was drawing with a verbal "threat" me shooting you type thing with Joe having access to firearms. In this day and age that's a bit scary.

I'm gonna go with krista here and say - keep in mind this is from a from a childless dude, but one who has had step-children before  - that you're handling it as well as you can.

Thanks K4...missed this reply and yeah it's shaken us a bit. And your opinion, as well as the rest of the GMTAN, is always welcomed when I ask for an opinion.

Thanks Uruk, appreciate it. It's always tough to make sure you're doing the right thing when you're as emotionally as invested as you are with your kids.

Well, I've had the worst week in my adult life except those when someone died (or, a couple of them during my cancer run).

Our company got bought out by the world's largest foundation corporation about 15 years ago. I think I mentioned a couple of days ago that the HR (today's version of Hitler's SS) rumbled in and hacked both the president of my company AND the operations manager. Basically, two of the three heads of the dragon for you Game Of Thrones fans. The 3rd head was me, who makes the least of the three. I'm sure that was a coincidence, though.

Anyway, the Nazis offered me a healthy "stay bonus". Like, way up in 5 figures. But I have to stay in "good standing" for 6 months. I feel like a whore for considering it, since the guys they fired are two of the best friends I've ever had. Both dudes that got fired told me to take the money.

Oh, and found out my entire HVAC system needs to be replaced. Yay, me!

Take the $$, fix your HVAC and then find something better in 6mths? Sucks Uruk, being part of a company that is acquired is never good.

Thanks, Hawk. I'm gonna take the cash. The thing is, the company we got rolled into is a good one. I am just so pissed they hacked my friends. There's a REALLY transparent good cop/bad cop thing going on here, too. They KNOW it's pitiful - you can see it in their eyes - but they still keep spouting the garbage.

I am extremely angry right now, so it's probably best I sign off.

Everyone have the best night possible.

15 years ago?  Is that a typo?  That's a long time to be looking for "reductions in force" to take advantage of "synergies."

Anyway, take the stay bonus.  It has nothing to do with the folks who were axed.

No typo. It took them that long to drill down (hah! inside joke) to us. From what I understand, they worked on narrowing down forces overseas first. Also, had a new CEO come on board last year who is supposed to be a hard-###. He's slashing #### right and left from London.

I'm going to bed. I'm both drunk and really down - not a good combo for someone like me.

Joe should be f-ing gone foray least a week.   In my district he would be facing expulsion.
If I can force them to move him to a different class I would be ok with it. Expulsion would be ideal given Joe's parents apparent lack of involvement based on our conversation with the cops.

:suds: Right there with ya GB, drunk and down.

I don't think it had anything to do with the acquisition, then.  But regardless, just to expand a little on what I said before...when companies do this, they look at each person individually, not in a "we're keeping xx people and let's winnow down this list" way.  You're being kept because you were seen as valuable and not redundant to someone else and has nothing at all to do with the other two heads of the dragon.  Just telling you that, based on significant experience, to help you not feel bad that you were somehow chosen "instead" of the others.  You were valued based on your merits without regard to the others.

Hope you have a good sleep and things are better tomorrow.  Hate this for you.  And for 5-ish.  And for Hawks and BAbe and others facing tough times right now.

Glad they didn't get you UH.  You are doing the right thing AND don't feel guilty, your two friends and anyone else would do the same thing.

Mourn, get it over with and move on.  Your friends will understand.

Oh, and I think you handled it just fine Hawks. But my wife works as a school social worker so I hear some pretty bad stuff. I would lean towards being over cautious when it comes to that kind of stuff.
