GM's Thread About Everything/GM's Thread About Nothing (8 Viewers)

lol @ Texas being relevant in CBB. Calipari could show up and they'd #### the bed in the NIT
That's an odd position to take. During the first half of Barnes' tenure Texas was consistently relevant.

Then a lot of the local coaches and players figured out that he had no clue on offense and recruiting slipped. And even when they have gotten good players, his approach to the game saps every ounce of fun out of it for the players (and fans).

Your face is an odd position to take

It's really tough to argue with logic like that.

You're still wrong doe.

I need a new surround sound system and don't want another POS one in a box like I have now and the B-ray isn't working correctly. Anyone? GM, can you check with your Best Buy connections for me?
how much you want to spend? details...

as for blue ray, you can head down to best buy or Frys and buy a brand new Samsung with all the bells and whistles fo r$99. just bought this one last week

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/samsung-bd-f5700-za-streaming-wi-fi-built-in-blu-ray-player-black/9515239.p;jsessionid=BA339D27D79336432CCC45C8CD3DA785.bbolsp-app02-114?id=1219021958830&skuId=9515239

works grweat. Be sure that once you hook it up and connect wirelessly to internet, update the firmware first thing.
I have something like this now.

I would like something better and wireless rear speakers are preferred. Although my family room has all of the hookups built into the walls but I have no idea how that works.

I don't want to spend anything crazy, maybe $1-2k.
Anybody want to fly out to Portland and do all this for me? I dont even know what these things are.
In.

I'm watching Bath Crashers on HGTV. Besides the obvious disturbing connotations that in itself brings up, I am in love with the wife on this episode. I doubt I want to go too far down the road of discovery culture-wise on this (I don't think I'd like what I'd find), but black women who are smart and talk like scientists are kryptonite to me.

I lived through 24 hours at a Boy Scout campground with a bunch of adult scouting nerds.

Not something I would do again voluntarily.

Technically I didn't really do it voluntarily this time either.
Oooooof. Really hoping my boys don't get into the Scouts. Trying to get around it by taking them camping/fishing on my own terms like with beer and people I actually like.
It is something I am conflicted about, because it instills a lot of really good things, but it is also a huge PiTA and so much of it is hokey, corny bull####. Not to mention the creepy factor.
If you want an activity for your sons that instills a lot of good things (fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship, etc) and is not horrible, annoying, or creepy, then I cannot recommend hockey enough. Great to watch. Kids and parents build tons of relationships. Weekend trips involve hotels and booze, not tents and marshmallows.

Only downside - expensive as hell.

Also, stepsons can't skate, are unathletic, and are big wimps.

Wife 2.0 made the younger stepson play lacrosse for a year (one spring season and one fall mini-season). I was an assistant coach for his team in the spring. Coaching the other kids was a great experience for me. That's about the only positive thing I can say about that whole affair.

I'm way undertrained for this bike ride but the fact that many of our avid cyclists are pretty chubby leads me to believe it can't really be all bad.

The house across the road from me has been for sale since I moved here 4.5 years ago. Is GMTAN-crowd-funding to buy it a good idea? I'm thinking of having it be a safe house for GMTANners who need to get away, with Homer running the show.

I would get so pregnant.

I want my boys to play hockey.
Great show on ESPN right now. More concussions in hockey than all other sports combined.
Well what sport besides hockey or football is causing any significant number of concussions? So whichever one is ahead of the other is also likely ahead of the other plus all others.

My kid has played for 7 years and i've known of 2 kids that got concussions. 1 kid is small and tended to lead with his head. He doesn't do that any more. The other was on a terrible cheap shot.

Soccer players get concussedI guess new studies say hockey helmets do very little to protect players.

They said hockey causes 70% more concussions than all other sports combined. Seemed pretty surprising to me.

I'm trying to convince Cal to play football. He needs physical activity and the kid is crazy strong, not to mention big. I don't know how he got so strong considering he tries to avoid physical labor as much as possible.

I got one playing baseball (beaned in the head), 4 or 5 playing soccer, and one in a bike accident.

according to my concussed brain, that's about 2 or 3 concussions... at least.

Can you die from your back being out of place but not broken? If so, I'm dying
hope you're feeling better HF. isn't this an ongoing issue?
It is. I have horrible back problems about once every 3 months or so. Gritted through the date yesterday. I'd already set everything up, paid for everything, and we were doing some "only available today" stuff. I gave it my all - and definitely paying for it today. Totally worth it.

Someone slapped me on the back and I reacted like a cartoon/Jerry Lewis. First time wife realized how bad off I was. She's been quite grateful that I just pushed through. If you know what I mean.
