GM's Thread About Everything/GM's Thread About Nothing (8 Viewers)

5 days and nights in the NICU for one kid. Anybody want to guess the amount billed?
$50K? Maybe more since TWINS!

for reference we just got out insurance renewal info and it has having a baby as an example and said total costs around $7.5K with $1600 out of pocket

Yeah maybe rude is closer with $100K
$49,011.43. For one of the twins. That was the amount billed to insurance. Also, the same amount showing up as "Amount Not Allowed".

The doctor bill for this same stay was just $11,902.00.

Neat.
Brings back memories. We were on 2 single plans due to no other kids. My open enrollment to put wife onto my insurance was March 1. So we had her insurance company cancel her March 1 and mine add her the same day, except we forgot to tell the hospital. Kids born March 1. Prices have increased now though. For just about 3 weeks in the nicu for all 3 our bill was $110K. All fixed with a phone call. That's when insurance was good and it didn't cost us a penny for anything.

I had a podiatrist pull out two of my toenails while I watched today. I paid $229 for this privilege. Nothing like GM's tab, but still a a microcosm of the U.S. healthcare system. :oldunsure:

This probably belongs in the lawyers thread.

Let's say you have a camping permit for a trip that begins September 15.

The instructions for completing your permit say:

Customers can print their permit online up to 14 days prior to the start of the trip.

During which dates can you print your permit?

1. Any time through September 1, but not after.

2. Any time on or after September 1, but not before.

TIAWNAY

If we're talking a day of NFL, how about Sept 20? We are scheduled to be hiking the Enchantments 9/13, unless it all burns down before that. :(
are we making progress here? can anyone else make the 20th?
:goodposting:
Tough for me to say at this point with the things I've got going on but if I'm in town I can make it.

hope it happens, GB.

"up to 14 days prior to the start of the trip" would lead me to believe 1. Any time through Sept 1 but not after. Common sense would lead me to believe 2.

Can I do it one day prior? Yes.

How about two days prior? Yup.

OK, how many days prior? Up to 14, we need a little time to get the permits ready in advance.

Great, thanks.

That sounds much more reasonable than

Can I print out my permit for that thing next month? Sure.

OK, it's actually in three weeks. Is that still OK? Yup.

What about twelve days beforehand? Oh hell no. You have to print it out way in advance and hang on to it, then if you lose it or need it at the last minute we want to go through the much more labor intensive process of helping you face to face instead of using the self service feature on our site.

Best bet is to get it exactly 14 days prior though.

That all makes sense. Remember, however, that we are talking about the government, where "what makes sense" isn't necessarily relevant.

The answer was, first, the person at the "online help" for recreation.gov saying she didn't know, and just repeating the line I gave above. After approximately 20 minutes of that, she went to get help. When she finally gave an answer, it was

#2.

I'd vote #2

Lawyers' jobs are boring
 While this might be true, that has nothing to do with the question, which arose because I have a camping permit for a 9/11 entry (I changed to 9/15 to make the dates more obvious).

No one has asked the obvious question, which is why you don't just go in and see if you can print before 9/1 (in the example) and there's your answer, but the fact is that going in and not being able to print just panicks you into wondering if the whole thing is messed up, and you're going to miss some deadline because you didn't ask the question at the right time. That is, if you're me.

My friend's boyfriend's dad has pancreatic cancer (probably knows SLB) and I just sent my friend a text to see how he's doing as I haven't had an update for a while, except instead of saying, "How's George doing?" I said, "How's George dong?", which is kind of awkward.

How you dong?

I'm sure George appreciates your concern over his junk.

I have something weighing on me and don't know who else to confess to. Last night I went out drinking with clients in LA and had a grand old time. On the way home in an uber, I had a problem. It was the guys first night working and i was his second ride.

Because of the booze, I had an upset stomach. And because of the booze I had no shame in relieving some stomach pressure along the way. Was it bad? Yes. So bad the driver rolled the window down. I have a terrible sense of smell but when I shifted position in the seat a breeze of latrine-style stench cAme on, noticable enough even for me.

Poor guy probably rated me 1 star and then quit this morning.

That's f art, inspired by abe's tragic farce about farts. It's literally fartx1000, but made into several modern f's, gradually getting bolder. If you know any lazy trust fund babies who would like a copy signed by my butt, prices start at whatever they are willing to pay.

What am I missing? Print on Sept 1 and if it doesn't work, print on Sept 2. WA LA

Art values are driven by the lazy trust fund babies who did not earn their wealth.

Discuss.
Why?
I don't want to discuss, but given the upper east side "art consultant" clients we have whoe basically meet their uber rich friends for lunch and look at galleries.... I agree
So, you do want to discuss.
no.

but dammit, these women are idiots... and mostly married to #######s. and they're dictating, at a smaller level, what gets bought and sold in the art-world. like F is for fart. They take their art history degrees from vassar and figure- why not. and the husbands figure- why not- keeps 'em occupied and I get a tax break from their losses. and then they collectively nickel and dime every design and construction move because- why not- hubby is in finance and every penny squeezed from a tradesman living in a walkup in yonkers is fun. a fun game. and the best way to win is to bankrupt lower middle class working folk.

(that was a relatively not heartfelt rant to play up "not discussing"... my main client hubby is a decent young guy- a lawyer even, so not that rich- but married to the daughter of a hedgefund giant who fits the description above to a T... like F for fart, but T).
