So you spend money today.  To buy beer. Then you don't drink the beer. You keep it in your beer cellar. And then a year from now you finally open the beer and it might suck.  But at least you find out if the beer is any good. And then you drink it no matter what because you spent all that money and time.   And sometimes you buy expensive beer in between that doesn't taste like beer.

Passed me right the #### by.  All of it.
Big fan of this right here.

THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN...RELAY FOR LIFE 50/50 DRAWING.

Every year we have a "wine night" fundraiser for our relay for life team (in memory of my late brother in law).  At said event we hold a 50/50 drawing.  Usually the take for the winner is at least $1000-2000.

tickets are $1 but $20 will get you 25 tix.

PM me and I'll give you PayPal info.  Thanks!
lol

MIL and SIL and two more mother ####### kids under the age of 5 will be descending upon us tonight and staying for two weeks.  And, in an added bonus, my SIL officially announced yesterday that she is divorcing her husband, so, yeah....should be rollicking good times at the Malaise house.  Also, despite adding two more dependants to the tax form, maxing out our out-of-pocket medical and getting taxed out the wazzoo (sp?) on my bonus last year, I still need to come up with 5 grand to the IRS.  Plot twist?  I don't have 5 grand!

Oh, and my mother's health is rapidly deteriorating to the point where she can barely walk.  Now hearing terms like Congestive Heart Failure being tossed around.

I should probably stay out of all Trump threads.  I might be just a wee bit punchy.

Went to Subway for lunch (yes I know it's the Rite-Aid of sub shops) and I notice the "sandwich artist" was being chintzy with the toppings do I asked for extra pickles and the manager whispered to her "extra pickles?  Give him 12"

looks like even they have fallen on hard times

I hope you contract painful diahreheah from your cold-cut combo.

Prolly still recovering from the "Fogle fallout."

And by "Fogle fallout" I mean kid-touching.

Still trying to figure out the bolded.  Maybe I should stand on my head to translate.

(Incidentally, as a former artist of sandwiches, in days or yore, you don't wanna touch a single thing from Subway. The way that meat looks when it shows up at the shop is NOT appetizing at all).

just to throw a touch of positivity on this bad boy, i received a favorable initial judgement from the court last week.  i have to wait 3 weeks for any possible objections, but it's looking positive...

Apparently, today was the day for kicking people to the curb all around.  My company ALSO did a huge round of layoffs(prolly 15 or more people) completely out of the blue.  Guess who didn't make the cut to stick around?

Great start to my April!
Damn, sorry dude.

Very sorry about your mom.  Where does she live?

My daughter's soccer team has yellow jerseys.  They came up with a team name last night.  The Golden Girls. They're 6.

They should just go full-on, balls to the wall with it.

-Change the uniforms to yellow caftans.

-Coach is required to have the worst hairpiece known to man and his day job must be Rubber Vomit Salesman.

-Hold all the games on a field that looks like a giant lanai, with each member of the losing team being gifted with a compensatory slice of cheesecake while they commiserate.

Very sorry about your mom.  Where does she live?
She and my dad moved up to Portland 10 years ago, so she's near me and my sister.  My mom and sister went down to San Diego for a week and just got back.  Sister is a wreck saying my mom can't walk very far without getting out of breath and needing to rest.  They tried to do touristy things and my mom is usually all about that, but she just couldn't get through the days without major pain, swelling, shortness of breath.  There's all kinds of fluid building up under her skin, she can't put on shoes without great pain, it's just happening so fast.  We're going to get her into her doctors this week. My mom is 68 so I understand life isn't forever, but this is so new and so fast acting.  She was an avid walker her whole life, very active and strong, so seeing this is tough.

But, we all deal with this in our own lives, most of you have or will, so I vow not to bring it up constantly.  Just sucks.  Calling her today to invite her to lunch this week so I can get a better understanding of what's happening.

*blows out*

Thank you for coaching our team
With that grey beard, you look pretty mean
But your heart is true, you're a coach and a confidant

And if we brought a team snack, enough for the entire crew
You would eat every raisin flavored treat
And then chase them down away
With an orange juice blend

It's good you're near her to help.

The Fogle version of that sentence is punctuated just a bit differently:

"Give him 12". "

so sorry to hear the news: 5ish, Uruk and Henry Ford. if you guys need anything like a scarf or advice about lunch spots in the Bryant Park area in NYC- I'm there for you in a ####### flash. or other stuff within reason.

5ish and Uruk- I hope there are options out for next steps, work-wise. seems like the economy is ok right now, because usually it's architects losing their jobs before #### hits the fan for everybody else. :oldunsure:  I hope I didn't jinx anything.

Subway- lots of those in NYC. when walking by the stores, the freshly baked "bread" sometimes smells remotely like bread... but usually smells like fresh vomit. I guess depending on your pov on vomit-smell, the place is pretty great.

Shot in the dark, but I just read that they have some treatment with adult stem cells that has been incredibly effective for people with heart failure.

Wow. So sorry to hear about your mom. And your taxes.

Damn, my friend. Sorry and all the positive thoughts I have thrown your way

Not looking totally bleak here.  Already have a phone interview lined up for tomorrow and reached out to a couple other contacts that colleagues provided me.  Hoping this will be something I can rectify very quickly.  Still, it's a pretty pretty sizable kick in the nuts just because it was totally unexpected, but we should be okay.  I have a couple small contract jobs lined up too, so if it was going to happen this wasn't the absolute worst time, I suppose.  Very nearly bought a second car a couple weeks back....that would have sucked HARD now....so I'm trying to focus on the positives.

Sucks about your mom, GM.  Positive vibes sent.

My MIL was in a similar position. There were a couple of trips to the hospital that very well could have been her last. She is on oxygen now, and weighs next to nothing, but they seem to have got a handle on the fluid buildup, etc., and she is light years better than she was just a few months ago. Hope the docs can do the same for your mom.

edit: Oh, not dismissing all the work troubles that are floating around, but moms trump jobs. Hope everybody ends up Oktoberfest.
