I've already taught my daughter to carry the one so I hope they don't try to screw her up.

Here's an explanation of the alternative method.  How is adding up 1's, 10's, 100's, etc. columns not intuitive to a child?  I have a hard time thinking of anything more intuitive.

#### that particular noise.  Would love to hear the rational behind that "reasonable math" example.  Unless their definition of "reasonable" is "wrong."  

It's like they're giving out a participation trophy within a math problem for getting kinda(not very) close.

New math came out in the early 60s, and it was incredibly, ridiculously stupid then - really ####ed me up.  

Now its New, Newer, Newest Improved Now with Thought Bubbles.  Poor kids.

Everything at my daughter's school is called an equation. 2+2=4 is an equation. And they're expected to use terms like "addend". She's in 2nd grade. I get why they want to do it, but come on...

Ironically there is an app called photomath that will solve most written math problems and show the steps. It's been very valuable for me in checking my 6th and 7th graders homework.

it was a big, wide open venue but the bass in there was just unbelievable. to call it bone rattling wouldn't even do it justice. it actually hurt my spine and neck. never been to a show that loud since.
