Don't try to talk about ver-giners though.WTF?
Really is same as d1.
I appreciate that you tried. If you want to hit them up again, I won't stop you.ugh. really wish one of my contacts had panned out for you (I'll check in again and see if anything's changed)... but also would've likely meant moving somewhere.
hard to convince change/risk averse people to make changes or take risks... but what kind of work does she do? can she get similar work anywhere? is there a family connection to central FL? just trying to figure what's tying you there.
That's really what it boils down to, yes.Seems like the answer is, "a wife".
Yo Dawg, I heard you hate the term 'session' so I made a beer called Session that's a session beer. Can someone explain to me the origin of 'session' as a verb for drinking lots of beers? I can't stand it for some reason.
PM @shukeCan someone explain to me the origin of 'session' as a verb for drinking lots of beers? I can't stand it for some reason.
Speaking of hot takes, crappy sports talk radio station 750 The Game hired Dino Costa to go up against Prime Time on The Fan. I turned to 750 on a commercial break and this guy was just spitting the fiercest of hot takes known to man, attacking liberal Portland and vowing to bring the fire.everyone has to have a hot take, thats how we got 'session" beer.
Reason number #128 why beer snobbery and beer snob lingo is annoying. Can someone explain to me the origin of 'session' as a verb for drinking lots of beers? I can't stand it for some reason.
I'm a digital artist, the last decade working on projects mainly for video games. Graphic design, 3D models/animation, some UI work, basic mograph/effects work. Have basic knowledge of web/interactive design as well. I still do plenty of 2D/for print/marketing/branding work as a freelancer too. Pretty much willing to do any of that.5-Ish. Maybe I missed it, but what kinds of jobs are you looking for? What field/industry?
that's been the same for my wife in fashion.####, at this point, I'm ready to do just about whatever if the pay is right. That's the rub, tons of places want the skillset and exp. I have, but they want to pay me as if I don't have it. "We need an art director who will work from production artist wages." Yeah, well, I need a daily beej and a gold pi$$pot full of spending money, soooo......yeah.
This. Precisely. Almost verbatim.that's been the same for my wife in fashion.
ads read just right for her wealth of experience- except they say 1-2yrs of experience... which is code for "we're going to cheap the #### out of you".
dunno if you've tried this, but when I was out of work I started reaching out to firms I liked who were hiring people obviously Jr. I'd say something along the lines of- love your work, know you're not hiring my level right now, but would really enjoy getting a chance to meet you guys and see what you're up to. got some great interviews out of this and one fantastic job (a month or two after this "informational" interview). I think talking to firms when there wasn't any stress over the hiring part- for either party- made for a nice way to get a feel for each other.This. Precisely. Almost verbatim.
At first I wouldn't apply to those at all. After a few months of no leads I started to. Almost never get calls. I've gotten bolder the longer it's been without steady work and have started asking how they really expect to land anyone who can remotely meet their needs with so little experience. I have yet to receive a legit explanation.
kid #####Wife's a photographer. The money there is abysmal compared to the work involved. Unless you are some fancy wedding photographer who can charge out the nose, but then you're dealing with brides, mothers of brides and all sorts of stressed out people. Hard pass.
Not like my wife is going back to work anytime soon with 179 **** kids.
It's fine. I appreciate any and all input.I'm not good for much of anything advise related, so I'd just skip reading anything after this, but....
I have tried this once or twice this go 'round between gigs. Lots of studios have an "open submission for talent" sort of portal, so even if they aren't hiring they take resumes/portfolios. It's what I did with the place out West that actually gave me the offer (have a friend working there too, which helps).dunno if you've tried this, but when I was out of work I started reaching out to firms I liked who were hiring people obviously Jr. I'd say something along the lines of- love your work, know you're not hiring my level right now, but would really enjoy getting a chance to meet you guys and see what you're up to. got some great interviews out of this and one fantastic job (a month or two after this "informational" interview). Frustrating doesn't really begin to explain it, but that's where I'm at. I've been joking I should just go learn to drive garbage trucks. Rather than wasting time joking I should have probably just done it. Figure there's still a few years left before the robots start doing that.
Read this as your kids having 179 penii. Not like my wife is going back to work anytime soon with 179 **** kids.
You have a little bit of a Catch-22 going, it sounds like. You have set up camp in a rural Florida backwater (and I realize that happened for familial reasons) because you don't have a job, but there are no jobs in said backwater. It's fine. I appreciate any and all input.
Technically anything is "possible." In this area? Fairly unlikely, given that I have never actually bartended (did get training for it 1,000 years ago). There's, like, 2 drinking establishments in this flyspeck.
I have tried getting something local just to chip away at things. Anything. Costco, Lowe's, local retail, etc. Totally rebuffed so far. Very, very small town here with no prospects for the natives, so even openings like that are scarce. Most anyone who is living here long-term aren't quitting jobs like that because it's the best they can ever hope to land. Plus, I'm an "outsider." Pretty provincial here.
Anyway, don't mean to sound like I'm shouting you down (I'm not). Just that I've been trying the kind of angles you're bringing up too and still getting the middle finger.
Kind of. I never remotely thought I'd find anything of substance in Polk Co. FL. We "set up camp" here because of her family and it was at least centrally located between a couple of much larger markets. The rub there is that the Orlando and Tampa markets both suck.....which I already knew, and pointed out again and again. We'd lived in/around them for 15 years prior, and I had to find a job in Illinois that let me work remote to make real money for half of that time. You have a little bit of a Catch-22 going, it sounds like. You have set up camp in a rural Florida backwater (and I realize that happened for familial reasons) because you don't have a job, but there are no jobs in said backwater.
Tough situation.
I'm not sure if they cover your field, but check out a company called Business Talent Group. They help find contract jobs for people in a number of fields. https://businesstalentgroup.com/I'm a digital artist, the last decade working on projects mainly for video games. There wasn't ketchup on it, was there?Yeah, but because you ARE a nice guy, people in here want to help. Nobody wants to see a fellow GMTANer having a rough go of it. So vent away and don't ever worry about dragging this place down. For christ's sake, we've spent over a 100 pages arguing about condiments in here.
PS, the corndog picture you drew me was so good i kept it. You're talented.
Good wives are easier to find than good jobs. Ezekiel 14:5I'm not sure if they cover your field, but check out a company called Business Talent Group. They help find contract jobs for people in a number of fields. https://businesstalentgroup.com/
In general I would look for companies like this. It will be easier to find a contract/project based job while you are unemployed. I am sure you have been looking in that direction, but I would really exhaust all you can in finding companies like BTG for your field of work. Once you get your foot in the door on a project and you prove yourself, you will have a better opportunity for full time permanent employment. Your wife should probably be more open to moving, though. That sounds like a big obstacle.
Not sure about that. I'm single. I often think about my future wife and how lax she's been about getting in touch with me.Good wives are easier to find than good jobs. Ezekiel 14:5
My wife is never lax about getting in touch with me. Now when it comes to actually touching me, I might as well be a leper. Not sure about that. I'm single. I often think about my future wife and how lax she's been about getting in touch with me.
Hah. Thanks.PS, the corndog picture you drew me was so good i kept it. You're talented.
The only thing worth it on 750 is Dan Patrick. This turd lasted 6 weeks in St. Louis. I give him 4 in Portland.
Sketch tourists walking around Orlando for money. Make it funny. Find a new wife. ???? Profit.Hah. Thanks.
Perhaps I just need to find a way to monetize scribbled corndog art. That may be a niche that ain't filled yet.
Hey, I can sketch cobalt as easy as corndogs and my wife's BFF lives near Portland, so that'd be an easier sell for a move. Let your CEO know. We could develop a full-on brand package. Make cobalt more relatable with an iconic avatar, etc.Sketch tourists walking around Orlando for money. Make it funny. Find a new wife. ???? Profit.

I think it deserves its own, GB.I don't want to upset the good karma of this thread so could someone direct me to the appropriate thread for venting about the misuse of the words "bias" and "biased?" Hugs.
