Strange neighborhood behavior.....

My dog is 16 pounds. She is a corgi/Chihuahua mix. So giving you the backstory. I take her out front while I was doing a couple things. It's 10am neighborhood pretty empty.

I see a guy walking down the sidewalk a few houses away. I go in the garage to finish what I'm doing and have the dog come in the garage. I fiddle about and notice she is sitting in the driveway close to the garage (no cars in driveway). I yell over to her and walk out garage to come sit down. As I do this guy that was walking has stopped dead about a house away and acrossed the street. He has his hand up by his eyes, I wave to him, say sorry, no need to worry. I grab dog and she comes and sits next to me in the garage. Guy then proceeds to walk very slowly out in the street, side stepping and keeping an eye on me.

After he passes a couple houses he hops back on the sidewalk and continues his walk

Had surgery on my wrist today. I somehow managed to tear a tendon and a ligament that keep my ulna from popping out of the wrist socket. I'm pretty sure I did it standing up from my couch and pushing off the armrest to help me stand up. My injury is "getting old." It took 7 months to get to the surgery. Primary physician referred me to an orthopedic surgeon. That orthopedic surgeon only does shoulders and elbows, so had to see the hand and wrist specialist. He made me go get an MRI. Then he announced his retirement, so I had to see a different guy. That guy schedules the surgery. Every appointment took 6 weeks to get.

Been throwing up from the general anesthesia all afternoon, but that seems to be getting better. The tramadol has kicked in so I'm all loopy. They told me I'd be in a wrist brace, but I have a stupid splint wrapped in ace bandages or something that is all the way up over my elbow. It's ridiculous, uncomfortable and already falling apart.

Anyway, it will be nice to not have to smash my wrist back into place once a week and to be able to golf again. In the meantime, I have three trials coming up and this is going to make them a pain in the ***.

on the way home tonight, the Car in front of my kid (their friends) hydroplaned on a left hand turn and pegged the curb pretty good. Ripped the front right wheel right off. It’s pouring rain and windy AF here in SoCal. looking at the damage, the kid was definitely going faster than he should have been going. A good lesson for my daughter to witness first hand. However, the little punk didn’t call me immediately. The life 360 app told me she was at the bottom of the hill leading up to our house. I called her and she played it cool, tells me what happened. And that I don’t have to come down the hill.

I left when the drivers parents showed up. They were not happy.

Very happy my kid wasn’t in that car. And that everyone is ok. And life 360 is an amazing app.

That blows GB. Getting old is definitely an injury...so. many. things. hurt. Hoping for a quick recovery!

We lost power for about 2 weeks 15 years ago. Afterward I bought a transfer switch for my generator and never needed to use it. When I bought my current house, I installed a transfer switch and built a small enclosure for a dual fuel generator and a couple propane tanks. Haven't lost power for more than an hour, so I haven't used it. Nice to know it's there.

I got my car detailed yesterday. It's freaking beautiful, like the day I drove it off the dealership lot. But it's gonna be rainy all weekend and I really want an al pastor burrito from the taco stand...

Sure I don't need a full address but I have my house number on it ...... Why? I've come home from work on a windy day and there are cans all over the neighborhood and have had 2 lost that way

someone, somewhere on here was looking for furnace advice because theirs was short-cycling. search function is booty @flapgreen and now i i can't find it.

i'm wfh, wife loathes it. she likes to tinker with the programmable hvac settings so that the furnace miraculously turns on 15 minutes before she gets some and 15 minutes before she wakes up... but goes dormant all day while i'm here.

because i'm a pushover i just deal with it. one less thing to worry about. but in the coldest winter days it routinely dips to 60-61 until the heat kicks back on around 6 PM.

Friday the temp was hovering around 65. didn't think anything of it. finished up my day, went for a run, finished and when i opened the front door my wife was standing there, face flush red, jacket still on... getting ready to dramatically overstate some minor issue that obviously needed my immediate attention.


i'd had a long, long day at work (wall to wall busy), then was on my feet for 90 minutes trying to clear my head. hadn't so much as breached the threshold before "A MAJOR PROBLEM" was dumped on my lap.

that was when i learned it was my fault for not noticing how cold it was in the house. clearly i should have noticed that it was (warmer) than previous days and looked in to what was happening. unfathomable that the heat was not pumping 96 degree air out to rapidly warm the house before she walked in. wasn't even home when the heat normally kicks on for the evening.. no idea there was a problem.

"it's trying to kick on, then it runs for a second and shuts off. then it starts and shuts off again! it's broken! now we have to buy a new furnace! in the middle of winter! we can't just buy a new furnace! you should have checked to see why it wasn't working!!"


me: i'm going upstairs to take a shower.
(fast forward 10 minutes - me stepping out of the shower, but not out of the shower)

"it's fixed, it was a dirty heat sensor. i just cleaned it off and the furnace kicked on."

me: so no new furnace then?
(silence)

mixed blessing. she's very handy, but VERY reluctant to get involved because she might not be able to fix whatever is broken.

OR

she will obsess and spend days, weeks, months reading up on the problem ... put it off for a year or three.. re-read about it... then fix the problem.

i can mostly handle these things, but... you've never seen anxiety and panic attacks like when i try to fix something she has staked a claim to. "better to ask forgiveness than permission" you say. sure, but if i fix the thing, she's just going to undo and re-do it "the right way".

and having to undo and re-do is 1000x more anxiety and panic inducing than being solely responsible up front.


i've suggested edibles but..... you guessed it.... anxiety is off the charts.

Lights go out, whole house generator that my wife has bitched about since I had it installed last fall starts to wind up, less than 30 secs later, power back on. Out for 43hrs. Now I have a gas generator that I could have hauled out of garage, fired up and plugged in. Boy was that convenient, didn't even lose the place in my book. Wife now wants to take my buddy, who got me the deal and installed the Generac, out to Flemings for dinner. Not sure if I'm invited.

it WAS the wife. sort of. dude has a restraining order against him. can't go home. court sent a summons to his home address. he never got it. wife must have thrown it out. bench warrant issued. he was back at work when i got there.
