I've been doing lunch duty again this semester after a 4 or 5 year haitus. I get a free tray of school lunch food, together with my trusty spork. This food is so disgusting. For example, today, I chose the nachos. What kind of a main dish is that? At best it's an unhealthy snack food. So to make up for the lack of dietary nutrition found in melted cheese on corn tostados, they included not one, but two cooked vegetables, peas and carrots, and green beans, both overcooked and mushy. I could have had cheese pizza instead, served with french fries and garlic toast. And this stuff is really filling. All week I haven't even been hungry when dinner time rolls around. I'll let you know when my buttons start popping off.
I've been enjoying the "Lamest State" thread quite a bit and noted quite a few members pooh-poohing New Mexico. I always liked New Mexico, but only visited as a tourist and never lived there. Curious what your thoughts of New Mexico are...did you move there from somewhere else or are you a native?I'll hang up and listen.
I'm a native. I was born in Albuquerque and have lived in southern NM for a while now. There are a lot of good things about this state. The weather is pretty good. It does get hot, especially this area, in the summer. But Albuquerque is usually only in the low 90s. We get all four seasons, but in moderation. It's a rare day anyone is shoveling snow. It's a dry climate, so you aren't oppressed with the high heat. The cost of living is pretty good. But then, salaries aren't that high, so I guess it balances out. But it's way cheaper to live in New Mexico, then say, California. I have a really nice, new, energy star house in a nice neighborhood for what I think is a bargain price. We don't get hurricanes or many tornadoes, or huge snowstorms. Occassionally there's a slight tremor, but almost never that you can feel, so earthquakes are not a factor.People are friendly and helpful. There is a big diversity of scenery. We have rocky mountains, a few small lakes, sandy deserts, colorful painted arches and mesas, trout fishing streams, ski resorts, volcanoes. We have aliens, a space port, and nuclear bombs. We have new agers, movie productions, wineries, and the biggest hot air balloon festival in the world. But we also have a lot of poor people and poorly educated people. And we don't have a major sports team. I still don't have a team, although I'd really like one. In some ways I really like living here. But in others it's lacking.
