GM's thread about nothing (73 Viewers)

My mom just got back from 2+ weeks on a mission to an orphanage in Tanzania. As someone who spent most of her adult life as a stay at home mom this was quite the adventure for her. Really proud of her for going out of her comfort zone and making a small difference somewhere. She's already talking about going back

Now this is about 80 squillion times better than minivan chat, or just about anything else for that matter. Yay, SLB2 Mom! :)

I listed my wife's car on Craigslist last week for $4,900 and sold it within 24 hours for $5,000 to a gal in Southern Utah who has been looking for this specific car, but found no inventory for it where she lives (out in the sticks, I guess). She financed the purchase through a credit union, so it took about a week for her to get everything squared away. From what I understand, Obama's Cash for Clunkers program stripped out a LOT of the used car inventory that was floating around, so for the first time car buyers (which this gal is, fresh out of college) the pickings for reliable used cars under $5,000 is slim.

Anyhow, YEAH OBAMA!!! :nonpoliticaltangent:

Also, I couldn't help but facebook stalk the new buyer.

Wife is pretty bummed to sell her car. She bought it when she graduated from college and it served her very well. But we need a little something bigger and since I am pot committed to riding my bike to and from work this winter, we don't need two cars sitting in our garage.

Anyhow, coming soon, my MINI VAN THREAD!!!! :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited:
I can't imagine why anyone would buy a minivan. Ever.
Have you driven a minivan? Well? Have you?VROOOOOOOOOOM
Not gonna lie, I kind of like the minivan.

Let's talk alternatives to the mini-van then, shall we?

NEEDS

- Used car, 3 years old or older

- Ideally less than $20,000

- Suitable for a family of 5 or more

- Must be somewhat fuel efficient and by that, I mean NOT a Dodge Durango or a Yukon - those things are brutal on gas

- Tough enough to take up and over the mountains with storage to hold our camping gear

I think I'm destined to buy a used minivan, but perhaps not. I am not the world's greatest car buyer, but I have always bought used cars and drive them for several years. I will never consider a lease and I will never buy brand new.

I read a transcript before because it was posted on this site. But I also thought Yandek was a staff member here and that these were some sort of new content feature by Joe. Shuke had to correct me. Shuke. :bag:
He's not?

I, too, was shocked when I found this out.

Did I just imagine that there was a special interview forum?

The Mazda 5 has a third row and gets better mileage than any option previously mentioned. But in GM's position (hosed), I would go with the Odyssey.

I really have to start remembering that there are Thursday NFL games. Last week I left Doug Martin's 42 points on my bench and last night I missed out on San Diego's D. Frick!

1. I drove a minivan in highschool....that thing was like a tank...it was awesome, but don't think I ever want to drive one again

2. All this minivan talk is making me consider getting snipped

3. Taking a bus up to the LSU/Bama game tomorrow... :banned: Can't. Freaking. Wait.

Is Cal, ahem, a man yet?
:lmao: I asked him if he kissed her and he replied "Yes. I mean she is my girlfriend. And she kind of makes me". This isn't the first girl to be kissing on my boy. :proud:Plus we had to pick up stuff (pizzas and crap) they sold for the fund raiser tonight. Since they sold so much each of the boys got to pic a poster off the table. There were about 20 choices I guess and they were very geared male/female. Dylan picked a Mario Bros poster which isn't any surprise. I'm watching Cal decide I'm thinking "oh god please don't pic the boy band or the kittens". He went with The Avengers.

Romo almost stroked out laughing at this last night.

Boys are off school today, I hear this conversation around 6am.

Dylan: (knocks on bathroom door) You going pee or poop in there?

Cal: Poop

Dylan: When I poop there's a lot. ROAR!!!!(makes sound like a dinosaur)

Cal: What?!

Dylan: I'm full of poop. A lot comes out of my butt. ROAR!!! (makes sound like a dinosaur again)

Cal: Leave me alone.

Best of both worlds, imo.

Haven't read further in the thread past this post yet, so I'm not sure what else has already been discussed. But your search should start and stop with a Ford Flex. We have a 2010 SEL. It's fantastic.

LOL.. No hockey right now, so Vancouver is less attractive.Sell me on Portland. What's there?
Minor league hockey games can be a lot of fun because we can get seats right on the glass for next to nothing. They host Seattle on Dec. 15th and Portland hates Seattle (for good reason, bunch of sissynecks up there). We can probably find some poker to play, cigars to smoke, spirits to ingest and trouble to get into. You can stay with us or you can probably priceline a 4-star hotel downtown for a song. Cosjobs stayed at the Benson Hotel for a steal of a deal. He had a great room with a nice view of downtown and it was centrally located, so he could amble about here or there. We have a little baby at home, so if you can get your business to comp you a room, you might want to enjoy the peace and quiet since you'll be away from your little ones that week. But our house is always open to you of course.Downtown Portland is much easier to get around than Seattle, imo. It is a much more walkable city with so much variety in food and bars close by. I once stayed next to Safeco Field in Seattle with my boys and my dad and we wanted to walk to a restaurant that would serve breakfast. Seems relatively simple, right? Wrong. We found a few bars that had breakfast, but wouldn't let minors in. We ended up having to eat at Starbucks. You won't have that problem in Portland. I also think you'll get a huge kick out of the Food Cart scene down here. The variety is incredible and I think you might enjoy sampling different things.Pause here.
Yeah, doing Portland for sure. I've been to Seattle more times than I care to remember, and a change of scenery over the weekend is very welcome. I really appreciate the lodging offer, but Microsoft is paying for all my T&E, and with a small kid at home you have enough to deal with. Sounds like downtown Portland is the best option. I'll be renting a car and making the drive down on Friday afternoon/evening. I have no idea how long it would take, but guessing 3.5 hours (Bing Maps is saying 2.45)? Since I'll be leaving Seattle/Bellevue around 5-ish and hitting rush hour traffic I'm guessing I won't make Portland until 9 - 10-ish.Hockey on Saturday sounds good too, but I'm pretty open to do most things, as long as they involve drinking, gambling, eating and getting into trouble...

If cornholing is not important to you, take a ferry to Victoria. One of the coolest cities in North America and a pretty fun ferry ride.
it's not that important noI don't think I have ever seen fun and ferry ride in the same sentence before, kudos!

Victoria enjoys some of the country's most exhilarating scenery: there's an ocean or mountain vista around every corner, while the city's flower gardens are famous the world over. Whether your taste runs to golfing, hiking, biking and fishing or you're more the shopping, dining and theatre type, there are no end of delights for you and your family in Victoria – the city was included in the Top 10 Family Vacations in Canada in the TripAdvisor 2011 Travelers' Choice awards.

and yet, minivan chat is exponentially better than Beisball chat (Tanner commentary excluded).

For sure. Will have a car for this trip. 12/10 - 12/14. What day is better?

Serious biz in the "most inspiring pic" thread.
I've tried very hard to eliminate schadenfreude from my life. Sometimes with the Dallas Cowboys or New York Yankees, it is difficult. There are one or two facebook friends that challenge this as well. But for the most part, I try not to rejoice in anyone else's pain or squelch anyone else's joy unless it serves a purpose higher than my own entertainment.
