GM's thread about nothing (32 Viewers)

I need to start inviting people over for dinner and then turning them loose on my kitchen. :moneybag:
Not exactly the same thing, but Frank Orrall of Poi Dog Pondering fame actually hires himself out to come to your house, cook you dinner and play songs My link

A high school friend had someone in their neighborhood hire him and said it was great.
 About a year or so ago, a good buddy of mine in Cincinnati wrote to these guys and asked if they would be willing to play in his basement one night. They were all about it. Really cool pictures and stories from the event.
Two friends of mine are in this band.
There's been about 40 people in the band. Still, you know 2 more than I do.

No. I'm so mad I could spit balls. It has to do with my wife's non-biological daughter that she helped raise. Not hers biologically but she raised her until the age of 18. This kid was was born with a lack of empathy. She scares me. Even my wife will not keep a gun loaded around her. Wife raised the hypothetical should her biological mother pass. Kid is. 20. I said no way. She is 20!!!!

I told my wife, unless she agrees to live under our rules, no go. Hopefully it won't come to that. Bit wife had an Issue with me telling imaginanarily telling this kid to to GFHS.

What would you do ?
The kid is 20, so is there even something to do? I guess I don't understand the hypothetical.
I don't either.

Yeah...one is of the 3-4 that have been in it since the Austin years. One started in the Chicago years. I'd swear I have another friend who played bass for them but is not listed on the Wiki page...of course he might just be another of the 40. Anyway, I like the band a lot even though it's never really been the same band for many years.

Wife admits her ex's biological daughter is f'd up. Not my problem.
OK, going to try to understand...Your wife's ex's biological daughter is messed up, and have all sorts of problems. The kid is 20, but if hypothetically the wife's ex dies, the wife now is the only parent?Does the wife see the kid now?Why is the kid needing someone to take care of her? She is 20?Why fight over a highly hypothetical scenario, likely to never play out, since the kid is an adult?ETA: If you want a hypothetical to fight about, say, just as an example taken out of thin air, the wife went to Lowe's to buy 2 (two) Lemon Grass plants to prevent mosquitoes, and came home with 25 knockout roses, 4 palm trees, 6 yards of garden soil, 50 or so various other items, all in all costing just as an example about $2,251.98 or so (hypothetically), but no lemon grass plants.

I think you need to empathize more.

Your wife drives a dump truck?

Apparently you can get items delivered, hypothetically of course.

Ok, booked for Nicaragua May 15-22. Staying in the other krista/Oliver estate this time, which I think is more "Western" but not in as interesting a location. Correct me if I'm wrong, krista - Paloma is on a corner and fronts a busy street; During my quick visit, I couldn't get a vibe for Camila's location in relation to other places. One thing I AM doing is having Julio's family over for dinner and also Carmen's folks. I know Carmen & Julio's mom are ace cooks, so I'm gonna turn 'em loose in that wonderful kitchen K4/Oliver built.
"I'd like to invite you and your family over for dinner......but tell your wife/mom they have to cook"
:lmao:
I kind of wondered about that, but I figured since they'd be eating better than they would otherwise, it was OK... Still thought it was a little weird, though. Hopefully won't be having Carmen clean up afterwards, too.
Jesus - rough crowd up in here. I guess the way I wrote the OP smacks of colonialism or something, but that's not the way I meant it. Both offered - through my reliable interpreter Julio - to cook for me. I meant it in a fellowship way.Do I really come across as THAT much of an #######?

No, it just comes across a little funny. Ugh, can't find the emoticons...

The family's on spring break and will be gone until Tuesday. While I'm loving the quiet reading, video game, and masturbation time, I'm going to be lost come dinner. Thinking of posting an ad on craigslist -

Nicaraguan Mothers and Daughters!

I have the kitchen, you have the knowhow.

Cook me meals and I'll provide conversation

free uniform and stripper heals included!

Bills ink Kevin Kolb. Get 'em next year, Rud.
He'll start a game or two at most probably.Edit: Buddy Nix rules
I actually think it's a good move. He's a stopgap/backup at worst or blooms into a real starter at best. 99% sure it's the former. Signing him lets the Bills to not overreach at #8 for a QB if they miss out on Geno Smith. They can wait until the second round.

I'm converting Albert Oaks into a 30 day health/lifestyle retreat. I've partnered with Paul Jaminet and the program will be based on his book The Perfect Health Diet. He will oversee the program and do monthly visits and weekly Skype conferences with the guests.

I made this post in the Paleo thread here, but wanted to point it out to the gmtanners. If any of you have the wherewithall to take 30 days off in the coming weeks, I a looking for a couple of guinea pigs, lab rats, people to come stay for 30 days and follow the program as my guest, as I develop the in-house program. Bringing a spouse would be okay. PM me if you are interested.

Of course you don't come across as an #######, a ####### or even a ####, but you have to admit it's an odd and slightly touchy situation. On the plus side, as you know Nicaraguan people are kind and generous though they have absolutely nothing. Undoubtedly they do want to do this for you and don't want anything in return, but I assume that you will do something for them--something very nice--anyway. I also assumed, as I previously posted, that you'd be buying the food and perhaps they will eat a bit better than they otherwise would, so it's a positive in that way.

Warning that when dinner is over, all the women there will hop up and insist on doing all the cleaning and will not allow anyone with a penis or very white skin to help. This bothered me before, but I've been told repeatedly that they like to do this (much like they will like to fix you a meal) and it's offensive if I try to stop them. Again just a cultural difference.

As I mentioned, Julio's dad custom made that stove, so be sure to comment on how awesome it is. :)

How long is this offer going to be open? I know someone who is quitting her job and could stand some health.

So why do I not go to the last read post now when I did before? WTH?
Works for me
Me too. Also, I figured out the multi-quote, so all is well.

Krista--

What if UH phrased it as something akin to "hiring" them for the evening to prepare an authentic Nicaraguan meal, one that they were of course expected to join in on. Or does that come off as somehow more insulting?

I don't think that would be insulting. We've had many guests pay Carmen to fix meals--she likes the extra work. Might be trickier with Julio's mom doing the cooking--in that instance, I'd suggest just doing something in return, buying something for them or taking them out for a meal.
