GM's thread about nothing (19 Viewers)

Oof, what a day. As I posted here, a couple of weeks ago my MIL passed away, so it was a whirlwind of cross country driving to Ohio and back, consoling my wife and her sister (who is interesting from a mental perspective) and helping them deal with their step-father who is 90yrs old, and likes to pretend that he's not all there, so he wouldn't have to help make any of the decisions.

Yesterday I got a call that my dad went into cardiac arrest and may be brain dead, because even tho they restarted his heart fairly quickly, he's completely nonresponsive. He's in cardiac ICU on a ventilator, and they can't explain why he hasn't woken up.

In addition to that, I am actively job searching, so today has bounced from talking to the ICU nurse, to a very positive phone interview with the president of our largest competitor for a much better position than the one I have, to speaking with the case manager about who makes end-of-life decisions for my dad, and trying to figure out when I need to drop everything and head down to Florida.

I feel like a yo-yo.
Godspeed to you and your family.

Meeting with my ex-BIL today to try and broker a settlement between him and my sister. They need to move on with their lives and finalize their divorce. They DO NOT need to take their divorce to court and fight over everything.

This shall not be fun.
gL. You are usually the voice of reason.
God, ain't that scary.
Actually I would figure you'd be pretty good at this, but yeah, irony. Good luck.

5 warning points? How close to the back of the bus does that get me?
I've got 10. I have no idea how many my other aliases have accumulated over the years, but I wouldn't be shocked if it's 25-30 all told.

Edit: I just checked - redman has/had 9, so yeah, 25 easy.

Just stopped to render aid to someone who had crashed their car. I think I end up being the guy that calls 911 for someone else about three times a year.

They're like the little brother that does everything right but isn't as loved as the older son that's been in and out of rehab.
This really makes a ton of sense.
Alright, look: I'm sick of the belittling psych evals.

Judging from the responses to Tre's little analogy, and other fleeting comments, I get that some of you think I'm trying to slobber your collective wangs in the pathetic hope that I might make your varsity squad, mason's club -oh pick the metaphor. You're wrong. I just try to be nice because I like to be a nice guy (they do call me "sunshine"), and I'm overly/oddly nice sometimes because I can be socially awkward. Cocktail parties have always made me nervous. Dinner parties are even worse. I hate large meetings. I'm the type of functioning introvert who's always been more comfortable sitting at the end of the bar with one or two pals, telling stories until we can't see straight. ,

So do me a favor, Tre, Mr. Spears, and unnamed others: save the armchair psychology for chat.

Right. Now to wrap this up on a funny note. I had something for this, I swear. Hey Tinker Bell, you got a Rodney King gif for me? You know, something with him blubbering "can't we all get along!?"

Done

Chip report:

I saw the new flavors of Lay's at the BP on Saturday, and decided to try the Sriracha because it sounded delicious and the Cheesy Garlic Bread because it sounded slightly less disgusting than Chicken & Waffles. The Sriracha was a huge disappointment--not very spicy and with quite a bit of sweetness. The Cheesy Garlic Bread tasted a lot like any cheese-flavored chip (i.e., not very good) but a little lighter flavor and with a hint of garlic. Not good but not horrible. I wouldn't eat either again.

You're my new i-hero. Sorry Truck, but it was never meant to last.

Now unzip those pants, Tinker. I have a story to tell you, with whiskey.

Best chip flavor is plain (crushed inside an italian sub)

Linkedin request from some doofus in the mortgage business. Ignoring.
I don't think a doofus would send a LinkedIn request with the phrase "I love you" in it.
:lmao:

Our makor supplier sent a clearance sale list out this morning. Stuff is crazy discounted but most of it is furniture and I really don't need furniture. I did get 10 cartons of these http://www.biggestbook.com/search.jsp?Ntt=SH58501&N=0 for $18.60 and 100 of these http://www.biggestbook.com/search.jsp?Ntt=00910ea&N=0 for $15.00. :towelwave:
I could use a buttload of can liners
What size?

Also, I get an e-mail notification if somebody quotes one of my posts unless it is in this thread. How do I fix that?

Chicken and Waffles Lays might be the worst chip ever made.

Just caught a link to the FB page of Homie's bar. Discovered that most of the pics are of really good looking food. They have steak night! 3 course steak night for $27!

Now I'm starving with nothing in the house but tunafish, wheat thins, frosted shredded wheat, and microwave popcorn.

I probably should have planned for this possibility three weeks ago...

Little things are ticking me off today. Got this email from the manager of my son's soccer team:

This is a reminder that practice on Mondays will be at [Middle School] from now on at 6:30pm until 8pm. We are still dealing with daylight and tomorrow, the sun will go down at 7:32, so please be aware that we might not go until 8pm yet.
This makes no sense. Either practice goes until 8:00 or it doesn't. I don't want to drive 20 minutes across town to pick up my kid at 7:30 and then wait until the coach decides he's done and will have the kids go home (7:45, 7:50, or 8:00, or whenever). Just give me a #######ed time to show up and I'll show up. So I sent this email:
Hey, Alison,If practice goes from 6:30 until 8:00, I think the plan is to pick up my group of kids (Will, Sander, Nick) at 8:00. Hope that isn't a problem.
And she wrote back: You'll need to check with Grigor because I don't think practice will go that late without lights. So why the F### don't they just say "practice ends at 7:30." How effing hard is that? So I write to my wife: I don't want to be too much of a pain in the ###, but if the coach schedules practice to end at 8:00, I don't want to show up at 7:30 because he "might" get done early. I don't see a problem with showing up at 8:00. And she writes back: It will be dark at 7:30 apparently so I'm not sure why they don't just start practice at 6pm tonight. Just plan to get there at 7:30 and cool your heels if needed. Has the whole world gone crazy? I just wrote to my wife: That's stupid. They either need to have practice end at 7:30, or [coach] can wait with my kid until I show up at 8:00. Am I wrong here?
You're wrong. Try to accommodate the volunteer coach, numbnuts.

I'm reading "Killing Pablo" about the US paramilitary manhunt for Pablo Escobar and so far I have to say that Pablo doesn't seem like the nicest guy in the world. He was also stoned all day long pretty much every day which really ruins my general perception of the average dope smoking hippie.

Speaking of volunteering coaching, Saturday is my son's first baseball practice. I'm head coaching for the first time. This is league is a coach/kid pitch mix. I'm not even sure I can get the ball over the plate.

Identity theft and its family is a ####
oof. Sorry dude. How did it happen?
apartment building we lived in during our time in Seattle was burglarized in late January. Crooks forced entry in the middle of the night and stole 3 flat screen tvs from the common area and fitness area, along with some other stuff. Worst part is they smashed open a locked file cabinet and stole the file that had all of our information in it.

I put a fraud alert on my SS# through the credit agencies as soon as I heard but things were quiet for awhile and I hoped nothing would come of it. Then last week I started getting calls from places to verify my identity saying that someone had been using my info to try and open up lines of credit.

I requested copies of my credit report and saw tons of activity. Started following up with each company one by one today. Most were unsuccessful applications for credit, but I guess they got a card open through Best Buy and rang up a $6000 charge. Supposedly, I won't be liable for that and they are opening an investigation. Of more concern is that one of the items was for the Boeing Credit Union and they wouldn't tell me anything without me submitting a notarized 6-page affidavit and police report since I can't show up in person to WA state to verify my identify. The woman seemed pretty concerned over the phone but couldn't give me any details on what actually happened. She said it wasn't a line of credit, so I can only assume they got some type of loan or something?

Anyway, during my investigation, I also found out that the bad guys had signed up for one of those credit monitoring services using my information and some random credit card to pay for it. So, they had access to my full credit report online I think and I'm pretty sure they used that information to verify my identity with Best Buy and the Credit Union to get those through.

Not really sure what else they may have done or have access to . My wife also got a call but there haven't been nearly as many signs of activity with her information as there have been with mine.

Really sucks.
