GM's thread about nothing (20 Viewers)

Also special side note to crazy cannot him how do I say that the first beautiful American Canada analogy that I made wasn't directly about you and for you to get all in the house is it just points about awesome that analogy was and second of all you smell like poop
This shtick hasn't run its course yet?
I don't think I've overplayed my hand here....yet.

Job

Just met with the company that said "no" on my proposal to be a full time salesperson for $7900/month. They want me to do marketing (blogs, Facebook, site design, etc) to help generate more inbound leads on a part time basis and if/when those leads get too plentiful to handle they will entertain bringing me on as the new sales guy. Ill likely have a new job by then anyway but that's a bridge to cross later.

I told them they could have me for 10 hours a week for$2k month starting with a six month contact. We shall see.

Seems like a fair deal.

Part time is huge because (hopefully) it is on your schedlue. It is also a foot in the door in case you really impress them. And like you said, you can be looking for something else in the down time.

Kind of what I'm thinking. My wife will wonder how I'll have enough hours in the day to do that, work my actual business (which has been a 2 hour a day job for a few months) and work a full-time job. My response to her will be to look at our bank account and then ask her how can I NOT find enough hours in a day. :coffee:

Thanks again to everyone for the tpw's. I'll drop the rest in tags so you can bypass it if you choose to.

It's looking more like he's not going to come back. The initial impression that we were given was that when his heart stopped, it was immediately restarted, so the risk of brain damage was low, but last night I found out that they don't know how long his heart was stopped, so they can't know the extent of the damage until they run an EKG, which is happening this morning.

His pupils are reactive, but his corneas are not, and he has no gag reflex.

We have no idea if he had a living will, a will, a dnr, or anything.
Damn. Sorry man.

Bing is watching...
I see those Bing commercials where people say they like Bing over Google for search results. I can't honestly say there has been a moment where I've been to Bing.
I heard their search doesn't filter explicit results like google does.
You can turn that off and on. Trust me. I'm going over Lolita in my classes right now and at one point I discussed the etymology of the word "nymphet," which Nabokov kinda sorta invented. It means a young underage nymphomanic (Homer, hi).

Imagine googling that in an unfiltered search with the results projected onto a large screen.

ETA: I wasn't clear: I had to make sure the "no porn" filter was switched on before teaching. I usually have it off.

In other news (of the depressing kind) my wife just found out that her cancer-afflicted grandmother has been moved to the hospital. It's spread into her pancreas and she has pneumonia. She's an old chica and had a good run, but it's still pretty sad. My wife and son have been down there anyway for their spring break, but I told her she should stay the week to be with dying grandma.

The saddest part of all this? I'll be foraging for myself for another couple days. Tunafish from the can, raw green beans, peanut butter toast, hard boiled eggs, and whiskey is the life for me.

Let's see -

- Can of tunafish and Jamesons for tonight.

- Hard boiled eggs and toast and Jamesons for tomorrow night

- Thursday dinner can be tunafish with a splash of hot sauce (got to change it up), and Jamesons

- Friday I'll go out and get a beer and steak burrito

- Saturday I can sucker a female student to come home with me and cook dinner. I'll tell her I need a babysitter, then when she arrives, say "ooops no kid, but uh hey, while you're here, do you know how to cook?" and give her the helpless puppy dog eyes.

This meal planning thing ain't so bad.

Sorry to hear about all of that, Tecumseh.

Job getting question:

I sent in a resume on Tuesday, got a response from the sales director Wednesday to schedule a phone interview on Thursday. It seemed to go well, and then I had a second phone interview with his boss, the GM on Friday. It seemed to go well too. It was all very fast. I don't have the contact info for the GM, he told me that I would hear from the sales director this week and continue the process with him.

I don't have the GM's email address, though I could probably guess, since the sales director's email is firstname@company.com. I pretty much always send a "thank you for your time" email after an interview, but decided not to to the GM, because I didn't have his email, and it sounded very much like I had his rubber stamp if the sales director wants to hire me. Feel free to tell me if I should have.

My question: I haven't heard back since Friday. It's obviously only Tuesday. It's a sales job, so I'd like to err on the side of being proactive, but when should I contact the sales director saying that I had a productive talk with the GM and I'm looking forward to continuing the process?

Thanks in advance, will answer yours, team not in sig

Friday at 8:10 am (so he's sitting at his desk checking email) if this is a professional interview.

Any time if its a drinking buddy that is the sales director.

I don't know the guy. Waiting until Friday to see if he gets back to me chafes at the sales guy in me. But I probably don't want to look too eager.

Don't be silly. They have other things going on and giving you the job isn't as high a priority to then as it is to you. Either or both of them could have been out Friday or Monday. It's the star of a new fiscal quarter for many companies. And the longer they wait the better chance you have to talk with your current boss before making a decision. They didn't find someone else in the last two days.

Thank you. I needed that.

My wife got a fitbit, and I wore it to work today. It was a pretty slow day, but I walked over 6 miles and climbed about 20 flights of stairs at work today. I knew I walked around a lot, but didn't quite realize it was that much.
I'm going to invent the clitbit so that you can keep track of your wife's or significant other's activities while you're away. :drive: :stalker:  :topcat:

My dry cleaner now has free pick up and delivery and an iphone app that lets you schedule them, and also tells you when your clothes are ready if you want to go in and pick them up.

How is it that my dry cleaner is providing me better customer service than just about every other company I deal with?

Ancient Chinese secret?
