GM's thread about nothing (19 Viewers)

My candlepin bowling team clinched its first ever championship even though there's a week left in the season. Yours truly came through in the clutch, scoring his first ever 300+ night with a 90-114-106. Pretty sure I need to post this in woz's reasonable athletic achievement thread.
What is candlepin bowling?
It's ten-pin bowling but with little balls and skinny pins. New England/Canadian Maritime thing.

 I gave a link and everything

I assume it has less than 10 pins or 10 frames if a grown man is only knocking down 100 per game

Hey I'm heavier than flysack. Probably not taller though. :kicksrock:
Lollypop guild?

Headed to Denver tomorrow for a week. Drifter, any recommendations?
Rockies/Avs/Nuggets obviously

I'm a little out of touch with what might be hip but the old standbys are as follows:

Breckenridge Brewery by Coors Field

Falling Rock Tavern (mega beers on tap) by Coors Field.

Any place with a rooftop deck in LoDo on a Sunny afternoon

Duffy's Cherry Cricket in Cherry Creek for great burgers

Benny's on 6th avenue for good Mexican and Tequila

Head up to Boulder and do some hiking around Chatauqua Park. Stunning in the Spring.

Take a walk around the CU campus while you're there and check out the coeds. Stunning in the Spring

Go check our Red Rocks just to see it.

Golf at Arrowhead or Fossil Trace or both
Thanks.

Planning to spend more time in the surrounding areas then in Denver itself probably. Will go to Colorado Springs, Boulder, Ft Collins, and plan to get some spring snowboarding in somewhere (Breckenridge perhaps).

The only Avs game is Monday night and it's against Calgary. Two of the worst teams in hockey and tickets on stubhub are $6. Also the same night as NCAA final so might just buy cheap seats to check out a period or two.

Do you get three balls per frame?? Or do you have to throw until you knock them all down??

In Fort Collins go to Odell's and New Belgium.

A-Basin is typically fun or late season skiing. They set up "on the beach" (the parking lot) and tailgate all day. Good fun.

Garden of the Gods is cool but otherwise the Springs suck balls.

Have a reservation for New Belgium tour on Thursday. They were closed/full last time I stopped by.

I heard A-Basin was good for late season. I'll check snow reports but I think it's still early enough that most places are close to fully open.

That train ride up to Pikes Peak no good?

That could be cool. Never did the train but I've driven up

Not sure why you wouldn't just go regular bowling.
How's your "golf" game going lately?
Too-shay.

But there is a big difference between disc golf and regular golf. DG is infinitely cheaper and more informal.
Really, Tiger? Tell me more!
Don't temp me.
Do you guys use the short, eraserless golf pencils or do you just grab a pen from your pocket protectors?

Fight with ex update

So I had a yelling and screaming match with my ex-wife on Easter Sunday, at her place. The dispute was her backing out of me having him Sunday morning to take him to church while she prepared her house for her Catholic extended family to come over as per Easter tradition (I wouldn't be there, but I'd deliver the rug rat back for that). She discovered, however, that my plans included taking him to the Episcopal mass with my girlfriend and her kids. She completely loses her #### anytime girlfriend is brought up, and simply can't be reasoned with. At one point the "conversation" goes like this:

Her: He can't miss mass on Easter, T Bell. That's ridiculous.

Me: You were going to take him last night and opted not to (turned out Easter Saturday mass was at 7:30 instead of 5:00) and, besides, he is going to mass with me so he'll have an Easter mass.

Her: We're raising him Catholic.

Me: Yes, and I'm paying for half of Catholic school. He can go to an Episcopal service.

Her: No, that's ridiculous.

Me: That's not very open-minded of you. Besides, what do you care? You're not even religious. You go to church twice a year.

Her: [indignantly] I had 12 years of Catholic school. :lmao:

Me: That ended over 30 years ago (she's 50)! Who heads your parish, Father Time?

At which point the conversation degenerated into chaos.

As I didn't wish to physically kidnap my own son from her residence, I eventually departed without him.

So anyway, at what point does 12 years of Catholic school "expire" such that you need to re-up by going to church again?

Sorry to hear. Sucks to be in that spot. Have you considered to volunteer to take him to mass very weekend? "Well, if we are raising him catholic he should probably go to church. Since his mother doesn't his religious upbringing seriously I think it's important that he sees that his father does."

Golf pencils. And no pocket protectors. Disc golfers are typically stoners.

Let me talk to her.

There's is very little difference between a Catholic mass and an Episcopal mass.
:goodposting:

It's about 80-90% identical.

My girlfriend is not religious at all but wants to start going to church. I'm much the same - I think it's good for the kids to be involved and have that experience, and it will help them later make up their own minds about their religious beliefs (more so, I think, than not doing anything religious). I think it's also good for us socially. She is willing to attend the Episcopal church because it's very liberal/progressive on social issues like homosexuality, women, etc., with the added benefit that their clergy don't tend to diddle kids and get protected for it. I was raised and confirmed Episcopal. That's all why we'd choose that church.

Anyway, the more I think about the conversation the more loony it all seems.

Eh...I'm going to have to kindly disagree.
That's precisely what I'm saying. You can't be informed about religion if you aren't involved in it at all.

This isn't Cross Eyed you're talking to here. I'm the least religious person in my family and have never felt spiritual. I've told my brother, a Presbyterian pastor, that I feel like I'm talking to myself when I pray.

This is a very practical decision, and not one taken due to being indoctrinated, etc.

Have to side with the ex here. Episcopalian pffft. You guys slice open monkeys at one part of the service right?

Only on Halloween and at the Summer Solstice.

My birthday is tomorrow and this is turning in to a bang up weekend. We were supposed to leave to go to my in laws for a big party ( a bunch of us have birthday the same week). Drinking, four wheelers, fun. Then I was coming back and my wife was going to stay for a while which means time for me to catch up on movies I've missed and get some work done and go to the neighborhood bar after work.

But she's having one of those days that confirms she is a woman. She is upset because she thinks she didn't get pregnant this month, my mom sent a text asking if she was making me a cake (which i dont want but somehow makes wife feel inadequate because she isnt) nd her family won't quit calling her for directions about how to make a video for my brother in law using pictures and music. (I usually make the family videos but passed on this one). And we might go to the party tomorrow and drive back tomorrow night meaning I can't have much fun and ill miss the late final four game.

So now she has been crying all day and is generally unpleasant to be around. Happy birthday me.

Nobody would take his office over so they made the obvious decesion to give me his furniture free of charge. Believe me, the upgrade is cool and all but I would rather him still be with the company * a million.

Make sure you do some night swimming too.

Seriously, having lived through what you are going through for what, 7 years, I really feel for you. Just try to understand and be loving towards her. Happy Birthday GB.

Austin is awesome. it's big enough that we have "stuff" but small enough that things don't feel like a huge faceless city. One of my favorite things is the morning news on FOX7 which features one of the hottest women I've ever seen in person and lots of WTF stories. This morning they had a reporter at the racetrack south of town. It's a half-mile track. The reporter was riding along live with a driver. The camera was a still shot from the side of the track so the film was basically a car driving in circles, and since it was a half mile (short) track and anyone who has been to a race knows you can't really tell how fast they are going on TV, it really was unremarkable. Even better, the in-car mic for the reporter wasn't working so the entire segment was about 90 seconds of a white car driving around in circles at an empty race track.
I'm going to need a name here on the reporter. Don't catch much morning news.
I prefer the local NBC affiliate, because the weather girl has an amazing rack.

Katherine Kissel is her name. She's had a kid and is provably close to 38 or 40 now. But about 12 years ago my band played on the morning show. I was setting up and chatting with one of the sound guys and she walked in for the first time. Easily one of the hottest women I've ever seen in person - I can't think of anyone hotter. Sound guy catches the whole band staring and says something to the effect of "doesn't come across as well on tv sitting behind a desk, does it fellas?"

Played 9 holes today (real golf, no frisbees involved) and I'm currently digesting a 16 oz steak and working on beer #4. Going out in a bit to meet some friends and get pleasantly boozed up.

Good day so far.
