Business idea: iPhone all for ice purchases. Imagine buying ice from a good water source and Habing it delivered.
Here's my business idea from this week, which you can have. Coat/glove/hat rental. I am moving to a place where I won't need any such things but will be back here visiting during cold weather sometimes. I don't want to buy these things nor lug them around. I'd imagine lots of people in warm-weather climates hate buying this stuff just for a quick trip at Christmas to see family or whatever. Hence, coat/glove/hat rental. Or really just the coats at least. Little kiosks in cold-weather cities. In the summer turn it into a shaved ice place (not really).YWIA.
I'll add mine to the mix... DSLR rental. Most people only need a high end camera for certain occasions, not all the time. This service would let you borrow one when you need it, but you wouldn't have to pay the high startup cost for the camera body and multiple lenses. The trick would be to up the pricing for holidays to help offset the lulls.
They have this already. Several companies around Disney that I have looked into in the past.

Not enough money in that idea. A pair of gloves for $5 a day? More than a day and its worth buying your own. A coat for what, $20 a day? Three days and its worth buying your own. Consider overhead and logistics of renting the items and getting them back and you would need a ton of scale to make even a little money.
I like how you say there is no money in her idea, but yet your idea about an iPhone app for ice is perfectly valid :lmao:
You thought I was being serious about an iPhone app for ice?

Random purchase that seems like a few folks here might benefit from. This occurred to me as I had to make an extra stop to go pick up a bag of ice the other day.

My freezer produces ice...but it's usually not enough ice to fill an ice chest, and if you empty that ice, you don't have other ice to put in your drinks. Bags of ice are typically $2-3 at the store, plus you have to go there...sometimes it's your only purchase.

Boom - $17 for 100 ice bags shipped. Now I'll always have multiple bags of ice on hand

it's the little things
You paid 17 bucks for bags?

"Boom"? Really?
I paid $.17 per ice bag. I can fill them up with my ice maker and store them in my extra freezer. Ill always have a few ice bags on hand. Really don't see a downside to this purchase.Eta - ice maker is small hence the need for the bags

How about this idea: in Austin they just banned plastic grocery bags so everyone uses those vinyl or canvas ones. What about decorative vinyl ice bags? Like with Disney characters or sports team logos on them? You could show your team spirit when fetching bag of ice PLUS you could reuse the bags!

Just read an article in money magazine on a guy who quit his medical practice to start this. Over $30MM in revenue in his 3rd year.

Also, do we want to try one more time to have a GMTAN Fantasy Football League? We can just have the draft in here. 14 teams, $25 entry, I'll clone it like another league I run, which is a bit more wide open and fun than your grandfather's fantasy football league. I should have some time this summer to organize/commish this.
Thoughts on doing just a draft and "best ball" and no transactions during the year? The draft sounds fun, but the thought of another league to manage doesn't.

Just my $.02
Oh, for ####'s sake, it's 25 bucks, dude. Not every league needs a draft dominator and over thinking. If the thought of this league makes you break out in hives, just avoid it.
Actually, it being only $25 compounds the problem. In my experience, people stop paying attention to the small $ leagues after a few weeks b/c managing them becomes tedious. The draft is where all the fun is...and it seems like the 18 people after me also support.

Surely, it's not about the money. I just dropped $17 on ####### ice bags!!!!!!!!!111111111111111

This Wimbledon Men's Championship matchup is fantastic. At this rate it's probably going to take 5 hours to complete, but just some incredible tennis so far.

I arranged for a late lunch with the old folks so I could watch this match. I may still miss the conclusion. <_<

In for GMTAN Magic Football. Worth it for shtick alone.

I was impressed with the price.

But then again, I thought they came with ice.

Remember that chick who was selling positive pregnancy tests on craigslist?

I think the real money maker would be selling negative tests.

I've gone ahead and registered loadoffmymind.com. Who's in?

Can we also provide fake STD and drug test results on official looking paper?

In.

2 mils vs 1.6Also, your exact bags are in amazon for $2 less
That's a measure of thickness :oldunsure:
I just love that 13 people left reviews for clear plastic bags.

Poor Annamarie Lubow and her 1-4 ripped or hard to seal bags per pack

my bags are 12 x 20

your bags are 9 x 12

I appreciate everyone's concern over my ice situation. That's what the GMTAN family is all about

:hugs:
Update on your current ice status?
2 milk jugs and 3 20-oz coke zero bottles full of frozen water in freezer in the garage. Kitchen freezer ice maker is full and is waiting on the bags. ETA on filling the bags is Wed/Thu depending on shipping.
I recommend not using plastic to freeze ice if you plan on drinking the water or using the ice in drinks. Even BPA free has bad (carcinogenic) stuff that can leach out in extreme temps- hot or cold.

You can use glass, but be very careful not to overfill or it will break the container. I usually stand them up with the lid off, then cap once frozen.

Or use milk/OJ cartons that are wax coated paper.

Won't be drinking the water out of them. But appreciate the heads up.

All of this will be moot, once I get my ####### ice bags!!!!!!!!!!!1111111111111111111111111juan

proninja or any bike guys, my daughter had her brakes adjusted on her bike and they are squealing louder than Krista's house alarm.

Is there any type of oil I can put on them to quiet it down?

You thought I was being serious about coat rental?

I have no idea if this is viable business, nor do you. The pricing and costs that you outlined are way off base (but then again, I wouldn't expect a guy from Texas to know how much a coat costs ;) ), but if they were correct, then maybe the business would be viable. Assuming a coat costs $60 retail ( :loco: ), then conservatively let's say you could get it wholesale for $30. If you rented for $20/day ( :loco: ), then you'd have the purchase money back in 1-1/2 days of rental (obviously there's still overhead). Ask car rental companies how long it takes them to get to that point.

As for people not renting something they could buy for the same amount after a certain number of rentals...people rent beach chairs. They rent ski equipment including coats. Hell, in some parts of the world you can rent bikinis on the beach.

The point is not that this business would be profitable--maybe it would, but if I had done the months of market studies and numbers crunching to find out, then I'd be having someone implement it. The point is that I want someone to start this business for me. I don't want to have to choose one coat, purchase it, and drag it all over the world. I'd rather have a choice of coats so I can go with my particular style that day and not deal with it otherwise. Do you know what a pain it is to deal with a coat getting to the airport and back in a tropical climate? Putting it in a suitcase takes up valuable carry-on space, so no thank you. I'd rather just freeze. In fact, I bet numerous stylish people freeze to death every year just for this reason. THIS IS A PUBLIC HEALTH ISSUE.

Seriously, I just want to rent a coat and would like someone to start this business. It's like when I worked in downtown Chicago and wanted someone to start Naps to Go, which would be a fleet of soundproof vans custom-fitted with comfy beds that would whisk you away from your office for a 30- or 45-minute nap. It didn't matter if it made them money; I just wanted it.

I'm assuming hand brakes? Oil on bike brake pads is a VERY bad idea... unless you don't love your daughter.

Yea, I didn't think it was a good idea, that' why I'm wondering if there is anything to silence it or if they just need to "break in".
