GM's thread about nothing (52 Viewers)

I would suggest you consult Tre. He's 1/1 at picking out names that aren't mainstream but are an awesome fit for the kid

Ok, backing away before I come across as a total #######

My suggestion is that you not try so hard to have a pop culture reference in your kid's name.

Any names from your family tree that would work?

If someone paid you $10,000,000 to change your name tomorrow to anything else, what would you change it to?

Also, say the first name and your last name together out loud. Does it flow? Does it sound awkward?

Your real name works with 2 syllables in the first and last name (although I can imagine how a drunken Texan could make each 1 syllable)... It feels nice to have the balance

Not bothering me. I expected some flaming but am glad to have asked. My first kids name came quickly to me and I adore it (Presley). I don't care about pop culture at all, I just like some of the names. As an aside, my neighbor has sons named Peyton and cooper and a dog named Eli and swears he has no idea of the coincidence to the manning family. Holden is really more blood meridian then catcher, and I love the names Harper and holland but both were used by other family member. So I'm all ears for suggestions. And for a ton of money to change my name? I'd probably just keep it as John Colin like it is. Used to not like it, but its grown on me.

Random purchase that seems like a few folks here might benefit from. This occurred to me as I had to make an extra stop to go pick up a bag of ice the other day.

My freezer produces ice...but it's usually not enough ice to fill an ice chest, and if you empty that ice, you don't have other ice to put in your drinks. Bags of ice are typically $2-3 at the store, plus you have to go there...sometimes it's your only purchase.

Boom - $17 for 100 ice bags shipped. Now I'll always have multiple bags of ice on hand

it's the little things
You paid 17 bucks for bags?

"Boom"? Really?
I paid $.17 per ice bag. I can fill them up with my ice maker and store them in my extra freezer. Ill always have a few ice bags on hand. Really don't see a downside to this purchase.Eta - ice maker is small hence the need for the bags
If only they sold bags at the grocery store that had some kind of zipper on them, which would allow you close the bag once filled.

I named my last kid. Not sure if this is a boy or girl but will take input/ridicule on my current list:

Boy. First name will be John. Will he called middle name or a John abbreviation (jack). Current listings: Cash, Hendrix, Holden, charles, Knox. (I hate the last one)

Girl: lyla, Layla, Charlie, hazel, Hendrix, Ridley.

Will keep you posted.
More seriously, John is a great solid name, and Jack is a great nickname. "Cash" seems OK if he goes by Jack. Charles is nice and solid, too (but "Chuck" is not).

I hate all the girls' names except Hazel and Ridley. Had a good friend recently name her daughter Riley, which I think is better than Ridley.

There is a girl named Briley on my daughter's tee-ball team.

Don't forget to do the initials, too, to make sure it doesn't spell out anything embarrassing.

Cousin has a kid named Briley.

Think the "in the lead" are John (call him Jack) and Lyla. Why is Lyla so bad?

Has any celebrity aged more poorly than C. Thomas Howell? I'm catching up on Southland, and I can't believe how terrible he looks. I wouldn't have even recognized him had I not seen his name listed in the credits.

He was a good looking young kid in The Outsiders. Now, at 46, he looks 66.

Has he been on a diet of whiskey and Camels since his teens?
I think I saw him, and was horrified at how he looked, on an episode of Criminal Minds. :bag: I WATCH IT FOR JOE MANTEGNA!

1. You spelled it Iyla originally, which is a weird name. 2. Lyla is a two timing whore from a show about high school football.

3.

4. Profit

I don't think it's a bad name but once you said "Friday Night Lights" I disliked it.

Women choose names from TV/Movies. It's rather unmanly.

What's the matter with Lila if you have to go that way?

I guess for me it's that the only Lyla I know is a dog. I mean, literally a dog.

I like John Abraham, by the way.
