GM's thread about nothing (38 Viewers)

So, I manage a facility that exports grain via shipping containers. Along with interacting with customers overseas, I spend most of my days making sure containers get back to the rail and communicating with the trucking companies. Basically dispatching for them, Don't know why it took me so long to figure this out, but I should buy my own trucks and make twice as much money doing only slightly more work.
You're in Atlanta? Small chance I might be heading there for business in the next few weeks sometime. Prep your liver just in case.
Can you be more specific on your Atlanta itinerary?
I cannot.
Well #######, on the off chance it's the week of Labor Day let me and/or Arhn know. There's a possible Thursday night football cornhole in the works.
Picnic?

My wife and kid are going to ruidiso with her parents next week. Her rich aunt rented a house so I am glad they are getting to go. While they are gone I will be packing up my company office and moving it to a storage shed as we work remotely instead of with an office. Should be a fun week. But at least Bentley invited me in to his league with a draft next Sunday so I have that going for me.
Does this mean you're going to be all emotional at the auction? I was going to warn you about the room full of pasty fat guy that will be there but then I remembered that you spent years on the FBG staff.
Man, auctions are great. Never done one in person but the ones I've done online were a lot of fun.

I forget what this means, but there probably won't be gay sex.

Watching Eddie Izzard for the first time in years. Damn, this was some funny stuff.

Thinking ill show up in my football guys staff sweat shirt and draft from memory. Intimidation factor shtick.

Update: I weighed in at 149 lbs today, which means I continue fluctuate between 149 and 152 despite gaining strength. I can bench 200, shrug 300 five times and squat 300 as well.

Tonight, I'm going to have Five Guys with a Founder's Centennial IPA or five.

Suck it, fatties.
Congratulations on being a strong shrugger.
:lmao: "Even if John Goodman was on my shoulders I could still make a gesture of ambivalence or ignorance...five f-ing times."

Had some minor-to-moderate issues with water in the basement over the last few years. We were finally able to get a few inspections and estimates. Decided last night on the $17k option. I might have to quit drinking :wall:
What were the issues, and what work did you have quoted? This scares me.

Just realized its almost two hours long and so much of it is just off the cuff. Genius.

Yeah, tell me about it.

Our NW corner has sunk about 2 inches over the past 4 years. I knew this going in because we have a gate leading to the street that no longer closes.

Each spring we have water coming in from all 4 walls (mostly at the base) during storms along with melting snow. Heavier rains in the summer bring some trickles but it is worst in the spring. The side of the house that is highest, also has the most water coming in.

I mentioned earlier that our walls are slightly bowed in, about 1/4". State regulations require the foundation to be redone at 1/2".

We were quoted about $30k for full excavation and foundation repair. Another quote included what is essentially a gutter running around our basement walls, running outside. That would help disperse the water once it is inside but not fix the wall issue.

We're going with a company called Everdry. They have a pretty good reputation around here (started in OH I believe) and with the BBB. They have a patented process that includes manually digging around the foundation and fixing cracks from the outside with a tar/rubber/fiber mix as opposed to just a coat of tar that most companies use. They will also put more drain tile at about 3-4' below the surface to help get the water away from the house before it can soak down and reach the drain tile around the slab. This should also help take some of the pressure off the walls.

We're looking to sell in a few years and this is guaranteed for the life of the home, with the warranty transferring to new owners. No one else offered that.

Sorry, back to your regularly scheduled...whatever is going on now.

Ask your contractor if geofoam would be appropriate for your application. It can drastically reduce or completely eliminate lateral pressure on the subgrade walls, as well as providing insulation.
