Very nice.Best misspelling in an email I have seen in a while:

Thank you for bolding "decedent". My first reaction was that he spelled "panties" wrong. I was thinking (hoping) the email was about a Victoria's Secret Valentines Day special.Best misspelling in an email I have seen in a while:

- he loves giving gifts but never felt comfortable getting you one because you worked for him- he's hoping to get you to join his group- he realizes he was a sucky boss to you and hopes you were - he heard you give good gifts and wants to get on your list for next year- he hates his new job and is holding out hope of rejoining you- he's inviting you to swing, but doesn't want to be too obvious- he had a bunch of extra crap and was trying to think of who to give it to- he saw something that would be perfect for you due to some past inside joke - his wife wants him to start networking moreGot in to work this morning and found a Christmas gift on my desk from my former boss. I haven't worked for him since April 2009, and I'm pretty sure he didn't get anything for me when I did work for him. Discuss.
Pretty sure this is it. It was a 8 GB flash drive. Also, I got him a gift in 2008. I think it caught him off guard. He was like "Oh, I forgot yours at home", but he never gave me anything.- he had a bunch of extra crap and was trying to think of who to give it to
Not worth it, GB. You have people here for support. We'll get to shuke's khaki problem later.MisfitBlondes said:It's been awhile but I've never felt the need to chase the dragon more than I have right now.
Polo golf. linkDudes, I need recommendations on khakis. I had finally found a good brand that fit well and was reasonably priced (Axist brand flat front casual pants), but I guess they don't make them any more. And don't say Dockers. I just can't wear those with that ridiculous tag on the back right pocket.
I'd ask this in offdee's fashion thread, but that is full of either tools paying $200 for jeans or guys like Furley who wear jorts but feel the need to give fashion advice.
TIA

are you talking about the booze itself or the basic mixers for cocktails? What are the essentials I'd need for some decent drinks to have on hand? You know, in case someone comes over and wants a martini or scotch or something. What should I have in my stash?
Yes, both booze and mixers. Nothing much, just the basics should get you started. What do you like?IMO you need:What are the essentials I'd need for some decent drinks to have on hand? You know, in case someone comes over and wants a martini or scotch or something. What should I have in my stash?
That sounds like a good start. I'd like to be able to mix up a bloody mary or mojito or cosmo without running to the store. A likely scenario would be grilled meat for soft tacos, some guacamole and a pitcher of margaritas. I also like the idea of kahlua and irish cream, but don't know what to do with them. But to start off with, I need a grocery list of liquor. And then I need names. Like what gin? (Bombay Sapphire?) And what bourbon? Scotch? Vodka? etc..Nothing much, just the basics should get you started. What do you like?IMO you need:What are the essentials I'd need for some decent drinks to have on hand? Top quality
- Vodka
- Gin
- Tequila
too cheap and you might as well not do it...
Adding for drink mixing:
- Martini Bianco or similar (only because you mentioned it in the post)
- Lime juice
- OJ
- grenadine
- cranberry juice
- soft drinks (sprite/seven, coke, whatever)
That's a good baseline...
then add additional stuff depending on purpose and taste:
decent to good whiskey/bourbon for mixing, same with rum
some bitters
couple or curacaos
a couple of liquors you like, maybe melon, tangerine, citrus-y![]()
that should get you most of what you need... give us a scenario?
For cold winter night fire-place purpose you may want to go with something warm, envigorating and potent, in which case you might want to go Austrian eier-cafe, or you could go with a simple irish coffee (Jameson, brown sugar, coffee, cream)![]()
there used to be a good thread on stocking a bar, but I have no idea where to find it. I used to be a bartender and I drink a lot, so I'm qualified for this. For basics, I'd start with the following. People will have their own tastes, but I'm shooting for creating a bar that will allow you to make decent mixed drinks and also handle the pickier folks. Nothing super high-end, but anything straight has to be drinkable.Scotch: Dewars, Glenlivet. Both pretty versatile. Neither will knock anybody's socks off, but if that's all you have, scotch drinkers will be happy enough.Bourbon: Jim Beam green label for mixers, Russel's Reserve, 1792, Woodford Reserve or, at worst, Maker's Mark for straight drinks. Misc: Jack Daniels (some people just gotta have their Jack), Crown Royal (good mixing Canadian whiskey)Vodka: Skyy. Fine for mixed drinks, it's middle of the road, not bad and usually cheaper than Absolut. If you want to add a better bottle, add Ketel One or Grey Goose.Gin: Tanqueray, but Beefeater is a good alternative. I don't drink gin, but know a few people that do. I keep gin just for them.Tequila: Herradura silver or Patron, unless you plan on making a lot of margaritas, then add Cuervo gold.ContreauMixes: Tonic, Club Soda, Sweet and Sour, lime juice, coke, ginger ale, grenadine, cranberry juice, dry vermouth and, if you know anyone over 65, sweet vermouth. That will make most of the common drinks and allow you to pour straight/on the rocks.Forgot rum. Bacardi and Captain Morgan's or Meyers.Yes, both booze and mixers. I feel like I want a really good scotch, seeing how my dad is from Scotland and all.For scotch I would pick up something relatively cheap and simple, like a MacAllan or a Highland Park. Nothing fancy, just to satisfy any scotch snobs somewhat.
Excellent to make coffee drinks with, especially for winter consumption, something like a Cafe Amsterdam would be nice and easy to make:In a decent sized coffee cup pour in 2 parts strong black coffee, 1 part Irish Cream, 1 part Kahlua, top with whipped cream and cocoa dusting... chop off a black straw in half-ish...That sounds like a good start. well, that's very individual IMO, especially among Scots... what area/city is he from?also, really good comes with a price tag, so how much would you be willing to spend? 2, 3, 4 or 5 figures?I feel like I want a really good scotch, seeing how my dad is from Scotland and all.For scotch I would pick up something relatively cheap and simple, like a MacAllan or a Highland Park. depends on your taste and which kind of Wild Turkey (they have quite a few).Personally I enjoy Russell's Reserve Rye (around $40).My dad used to always have a bottle of Wild Turkey on hand. Is that a decent bourbon?

Had a really bizarre dream last night and I'm pretty sure all of you were in it. We were at my grandmother's house on top of a mountain in Tennessee (where I went to college). Kind of a GM's thread house party. The only things I really recall are:GM and Bentley (and a third guy) left to go for a ride and came back visibly shaken. It's unclear if it was due to it being a mountain or if there were bad weather conditions but they apparently kept crossing the medians. Except GM referred to them as "mediums", which seemed odd.Gadzooks proceeded to turn on the stereo in every room, each of which was playing a different style of music. Made for something of a confusing house party. There was an outdoor swimming pool that had not been used in years and at first glance was a breeding ground for all kinds of bacteria. Krista was jumping up and down on the diving board and basically gave the finger to my warnings about the pool. In she went and in the rest of you went and strangely, the pool cleared up and it seemed to be a nice time.Oh, and Krista and Norville made out in their underwear (sorry Oliver H.)
