GM's thread about nothing (50 Viewers)

shuke>good luck to you and your family. That really sucks. I have two friends whose wives are dealing with very similar issues. Kind of weird that everyone that I've heard of dealing with this crippling migraine/pain issue is a woman.

Hang in there and shield your kids as best as possible. Also, be willing to ask friends for help. People are usually good about helping and there's no shame in admitting you need the help. The emotional burden is quite heavy.
We have come across a few men during our time dealing with this, but yes, it seems the large majority of patients are women. Maybe it's hormonal related, who knows.

We do have a good network of friends who help us when needed, but my wife at times is afraid to ask, she already feels she is a burden to everyone. This has already come close to destroying her relations with her parents, who she can't really count on for help any more, and she is afraid it will lead to that with others.
I haven't wanted to weigh in too much because I am pretty sure I've mentioned hormones before and I couldn't remember what you had said about it. Hormones are no joke. I know women who have had their levels checked and once they got their hormones back on track, the migraines went away (I think it's an estrogen issue). I know your wife is way worse off than these women who just seemed to have them here and there, but if you haven't looked into hormone imbalance, I don't think it would hurt.

Regardless, I'm sorry for both you and your wife, and your kids as well. Sounds like quality of life is being affected across the board and I hope that gets better soon.
She started taking something to get estrogen levels balanced for the week around her period. This was prescribed by her gyno. She used it for a few months, first month seemed to help, but second didn't. This was when she started seeing this new psychiatrist, who also specializes in chronic pain but is more of a fibromyalgia specialist, and she told my wife to stop taking it. This is part of the problem, she is seeing a number of doctors, and they are not necessarily on the same page.

Actually I've heard it's a testosterone issue with most women. I have a client that specializes in helping women with migraines. I've heard the doctor interviewed several times on the radio. Any help you want Shuke and I'm happy to do it.
I'll take any info you have.

I hesitate to bring this up, but since we are offering suggestions for a situation that seems to have tired most everything (Shuke's wife's migraines), I used to be in the employee of Dr. Russell Roby in Austin. Roby had quite the past and had been cited by the Texas medical board a number of times for being disorganized with patient records. He is/was also a narcissist who ultimately fired me because I didn't bow at the alter of his genius. But he was, indeed, a genius. He helped a LOT of people (kids with allergies, professional athletes who used to play catcher for the Dodgers, state legislators who may or may not run for Governor here one day) by manipulating their hormones with bioidentical hormones and a regimen of diet and exercise. There was one girl that had intersistal (sp?) cystitis so badly that she couldn't get out of bed and needed a catheter because the pain of urinating made her pass out and now she lives a normal life.

I'm certainly not suggesting you contact him. I am suggesting that if you haven't looked in to any hormone therapy then perhaps you should.

ETA: Looks like he's either out of business or dead. So don't even bother contacting him. But look in on the hormone thing.
I think she looked into some of this bioidentical hormone stuff, but the local person practicing it seemed like a quack, if I recall.

shuke> My wife struggles with constant migraines as well. She just got put on neurontin with pretty terrible results. The migraines are more like once a week now, but there have been pretty bad side effects like memory loss. Kind of scary for the week or so she was on it. Like you, I suspect that lifestyle changes might be the best ultimate remedy, but it's really difficult to figure out what is causing these things. There may be a drug that will work, but it's like roulette.

I'd be happy to share my experiences with you should you need to compare notes.

GB Shuke, hope you know I'm more than willing to help if you ever need it. Babysitting, play date with the kids, drinks after work just to lend an ear. You're good peoples
Thanks buddy.

My SIL is awesome. She brings me a Guinness just as I'm finishing the one I'm drinking. And she matches me beer for beer. She's also a vp of an international company. My BIL is one lucky bastage.

My wife has been on neurontin also, not sure if she currently is. Agree, it is a total crapshoot.

I'd really like to get her into a program at Cleveland Clinic. It is an outpatient program every day for maybe a month, and I think they make the patients go off all of their medicines but given them some type of infusion therapy to get through. But they spend every day working on diet, exercise, pain management, biofeedback, emotional/psychological help, etc. Problem is my wife is on some chronic headache message boards, and some who have been there were pretty negative about it, mostly because they make you exercise every day, even if you are in terrible pain, and this is a big fear of my wife's. I guess that's understandable, but I'd like her to consider it.

By the way, that is a really bad picture of JLH.

so seeing the doll war reminded me of when i was akid. i dont know the exact backstory about a doll my mom and aunt had but i do remember the schtick. we are talking late 80's. the doll was kidnapped and held ranson, my mom would get ransom letter, polaroids of the doll tied up and even a couple vhs tapes...

Hi guys. Raiders. Glad to hear things are looking up!

Ts and Ps to shuke and pack. I really hope things get better

I hope all of your 14 is better than your 13. See you in the flip side

While I was away, I got a massive SS package from stryper. He really went above and beyond:

A fifth of Wisconsin KinicKinic whisky (premium stuff, very nice)

Microfiber thin duster

A pair of "Drink Wisconsibly" coozies (Its last call... again)

Portable six-pack cooler

Stack of either blank cds/dvds or I'm Nesbitting them in the player

A strap contraption that allows me to single-handedly move a sofa like Tre

"Breaking the Surface" a Greg Louganis biography (First edition!!!)

A vinyl LP by Tom Waits - "Tales from the Underground, Vol. 4"

A Beer Bell that allows me to ring for a beer without having to speak ( I only wish it came with earmuffs, so I didn't hear the wife ##### when I beer summon her)

Great Job, thanks so much.

This seems... what's the word I'm looking for... unpossible. This is your wife's sister and her husband?

I'm going to need pics to believe what you're selling.

Or wife's brother and his wife.

Still need pics.

There's still a strong heartbeat of 160bpm. No action or exercise for the wife for a week, but everything is normal they say. Just some "good growth" going on in there.

I was about to freak out though. This baby's heart was heard as soon as they used the thing last time, and this morning it seemed to take forever to find it, but once she did it was all good apparently.

Good to hear GB

Rouge or Rogue? GM posting as Leroy Jenkins now?

Voodoo Donuts are some good donuts.

Rogue makes some good beer.

Donuts and beer should never go together.

Sorry guys. Thanks for the kind words. Things have just been tough lately.

Don't read this if you've recently wished death on me:

We had a pretty crazy week last week like most people probably did, and my wife was on the go a lot more than she is used to. It caught up to her on Christmas night, and she came down with a pretty bad one. She spent the next 4 days pretty much in bed and wasn't much better the past couple days, but I had to work. Tonight was just another instance in a long line of them where I did something with the kids alone. I'm obviously upset about the situation, and she interprets that as being disappointed in her, but it's more melancholy. I'm sad for her and for the kids, for how much she is missing with them. She has really spiraled down in depression over the past year, and it is hard for me to watch. I am trying to help any way I can, but she needs a professional. She has been seeing one, but is pretty negative about the things she is being asked to do. I know I am babbling, but I am just trying to keep hope alive for her.
Just catching up... Sucks. So sorry to hear this.

Jay Cutler came out of his condo on LSD this morning and did not see his shadow. Apparently that means 7 more years of indifference with the Bears.
