GM's thread about nothing (67 Viewers)

In the last week I've turned down a trip to Europe and tickets to the NFC Championship game next week.
I can understand turning down the Europe trip, but why the NFC Championship game??
I manage several hundred million in procurement and it was from a large vendor. We have a written rule about gifts that tends to be treated pretty loosey goosey by many but this one is a little too high profile with too high profile a carrier and wouldn't look good.

Oh, that's understandable. Did you ask for an exception from compliance and they said no, or you just decided it wasn't even worth asking?

I got tickets in a suite at the 50-yard line with pre-game sidelines passes for the NFC championship between the Bears and Saints a few years ago. Same year, also got tickets to the Bears-Colts Super Bowl from a different vendor. Compliance approved both. :bowtie:

Not worth asking. Technically I 'm supposed to file paperwork for it even being offered.

Tre, any concerns with this?
Current management still running operations, but I hate when Japan wins.
still not sure how you have big name brands like Beam and Makers and end up in debt
What do you mean by this?
What I'm saying is, every big company has debt, and Beam has actually reduced their long-term debt from $4.7 billion in 2008 to $2.0 billion in 2012 (2013 full-year numbers not due yet). In the same time period they've shown steady sales growth, and though you can't see 2013 full-year yet, the first nine months of 2013 were up y-o-y as well.

Best sporting event I've ever attended. I can't imagine any football game, SB included, comparing to a Conf Championship in the stadium of the team you're a fan of.

 It was fantastic. The energy in the place for something like that is incredible.

I was at Bills/Broncos AFC Championship game in 1992. Jim Kelly and John Elway combined for 0 offensive TDs.

Bills scored on a pick 6 in the 3rd quarter of a scoreless game and won 10-7.

Not that exciting but glad they won.

Minor Rant...

Why is it that the second somebody mentions that they are sick or have been sick everybody suddenly becomes an epidemiologist?

Case in point #1: At my local drinking establishment the other night and I notice the girl ringing up my beer has a cold. I tell her something like "That doesn't sound good." She says "Yeah, but it sounds worse than it is. I guess it's been going around." I reply "Yeah, but have you ever noticed that when you're sick everybody has to say 'it's going around'? I mean isn't that true of every cold or flu?"

She laughs a little. Then this rube that's being rung up next to me says "But it's true. That cold IS going around." wtf

Case in point #2: One of my cousins, in WA state, posted on FB that her teenage son was in the hospital for about a day because he was dehydrated (he just finished a wrestling tournament) and had a viral infection. A bunch of people replied with "get well soon" or "poor kid" etc. Another relative of mine, that lives 1500 miles away, posts "Be careful! There's a really bad flu going around in our city." I almost replied with "You should put in your application with the CDC."

Case in point #3: The people that want to know your symptoms so that they can let you know who the hell else has whatever it is/was you have. "Fever, vomiting, and aches? That's going around. This woman at my church had the same thing!" Thanks, Dr. House. You cracked the case. I'm always tempted to make symptoms up "did the woman at your church also have pustules, hallucinations, and a 7 hour boner a cat couldn't scratch? No? Because that's what I had."

I've also been tempted to say "Hmmm...so I had the same 'flu' as a woman at your church yet I've never met her. You know the both of us. Looks like you're the connection. Thanks for making me sick, ###hole."

No offense, but that Bears team has got to be the worst team to ever reach the Super Bowl.

:goodposting:

i wonder how much the parent company will impact distribution? will they take some of the cases that would normally be sent to distributors in the US and send them overseas? That would really suck.

still not sure how you have big name brands like Beam and Makers and end up in debt given the rise in popularity of Bourbon in recent years. is that from capital investments to increase throughput to meet demand?

have you ever had suntory whisky? sounds like they make some pretty impressive aged versions
Cheap, bad Bourbon (Beam) has fallen out of favor and Maker's is at too high a price point to compare with comparably priced and higher quality competitors.
Fair point. Still sucks that yet another bourbon company is owned by a foreign company... kinda takes some of the shine off the story

85 Patriots down?
Even Tony Eason was better than Rex Grossman. Can't argue against Vince Ferragamo, though.

Oh, didn't know Grossman was the entire roster.

I saw a game 7 conference final at home in the NHL. Unreal.

Yeah, come to think of it I enjoyed even more the Stanley Cup final game I went to at the United Center when the Blackhawks won their first Stanley Cup since before Tanner was born. I'm much more of a Blackhawks fan than a Bears fan, though, and Chicago was just insane over that team.

Weren't they like 15-1 in the regular season?

I wouldn't even put them in the Top 6 worst.

94 Chargers were pretty brutal too.
