Minor Rant...
Why is it that the second somebody mentions that they are sick or have been sick everybody suddenly becomes an epidemiologist?
Case in point #1: At my local drinking establishment the other night and I notice the girl ringing up my beer has a cold. I tell her something like "That doesn't sound good." She says "Yeah, but it sounds worse than it is. I guess it's been going around." I reply "Yeah, but have you ever noticed that when you're sick everybody has to say 'it's going around'? I mean isn't that true of every cold or flu?"
She laughs a little. Then this rube that's being rung up next to me says "But it's true. That cold IS going around." wtf
Case in point #2: One of my cousins, in WA state, posted on FB that her teenage son was in the hospital for about a day because he was dehydrated (he just finished a wrestling tournament) and had a viral infection. A bunch of people replied with "get well soon" or "poor kid" etc. Another relative of mine, that lives 1500 miles away, posts "Be careful! There's a really bad flu going around in our city." I almost replied with "You should put in your application with the CDC."
Case in point #3: The people that want to know your symptoms so that they can let you know who the hell else has whatever it is/was you have. "Fever, vomiting, and aches? That's going around. This woman at my church had the same thing!" Thanks, Dr. House. You cracked the case. I'm always tempted to make symptoms up "did the woman at your church also have pustules, hallucinations, and a 7 hour boner a cat couldn't scratch? No? Because that's what I had."
I've also been tempted to say "Hmmm...so I had the same 'flu' as a woman at your church yet I've never met her. You know the both of us. Looks like you're the connection. Thanks for making me sick, ###hole."
