Abe, is this the job that's not challenging enough? Sounds like you have plenty of challenges. And I'm not even including math in that assessment.

It's not the challenge of it, its the fact that I'm stuck in the mud so often. I was hired to turbo-charge the sales efforts. I have done that, but the enthusiasm of ownership to increase sales has not been matched by a capacity to handle those sales. For example, I booked a $10k hardware order in October and told the customer they would have the hardware in 4-6 weeks per standard lead time. They are getting the hardware tomorrow because the owner "forgot" to order it for two months despite my repeated requesting (and then begging) for it to get done. When we sign on new contract customers, there is no playbook for how to onboard them so the process is a disaster and usually gets close to costing us the contract. Afterwards I hear, "we'll put together a plan so we do better next time!" but if never changes.

Here's the thing: I'd be 100% cool with these issues as solving problems as they come up is part of working for a small business so long as I was paid for the pain. But my pay is heavily based on commissions and when I spend 5-10 business days a month NOT selling because our guys literally can't do the work, it means that I am missing out on a chance to provide for my family. When our inability to execute costs us customers, it costs me money. I literally work an average of 3-4 hours a day because if I do any more, the weight of new customers and new jobs will cripple our infrastructure. I'm not talking about MOP-level Rainmaking either, just simple B2B sales.

sucks. is there another firm out there with a better rep that sells the same product?

Went down to Nashville with FWB and a couple of her friends and stayed with a couple they know that live there. It was one of the most epic nights I have had in a long time. Some highlights include...

- drinking really good bourbon (George T Stagg) before heading to a concert (Jake Bugg)

- getting a hot chick's number right in front of FWB and all her friends... she didn't like that one too much

- getting choked out by a senior citizen

- having extremely dirty, loud drunken sex that everyone else in the house apparently heard in great detail

- one of the girls in the group waking up wearing a shirt as pants

- my ride back to Cincy losing her cell phone, credit card and keys

- finding her cell phone (thanks find my iphone) and realizing it was in the cab we took home last night... which was parked at the cabbie's house in the middle of a Somalian ghetto. and having to go knocking door to door to try to find the cabbie because he wasn't answering calls from the taxi company. he never did come out, just unlocked the car from behind one of the random doors
