My wife makes smoothies and what not. She also cooks a lot, makes soups, hummus, sauces etc and wants a new blender. It can't be little like the one linked above. Thought it'd be a good gift for Mother's Day. Thoughts?

So are we. When I buy a kitchen appliance, I buy the nicest one I can find with the idea that I won't ever have to buy it again.

Refurbs on vitamix.com are still f'n expensive, but a lot cheaper. That or Costco are your best bets.

Krista any problems with it? Cleaning it a pain? We have some stupid $500 juicer, that we never use, where you can throw an entire pineapple, skin, stem and all into and it'll juice it just fine. But cleaning it, is an unbelievable pain in the ###.

We've had a few people who post on the board with the primary reason to just incite people and then go back to their home board and brag about how many "fish" they "caught" or what they could stir up. Posters who do that and don't have anything positive to bring to the board will have their ability to post removed.

My father never liked it - always said it was the texture. But he'd eat the #### out of raw spinach & kale

Since the dementia took hold, he eats as much lettuce (& everything else) they put in front of him. That also includes dairy products and lamb, which he'd rather have had his toenails ripped off than eat before.

Cleaning the vitamix is awesome. Throw a cup of soapy water in there and turn it on high for a minute. Rinse.
