Email received this afternoon from my boss

I have been approached a couple times already about Wednesday morning if we get hit hard with snow. Do not waste any time watching the news in the morning to see if school is out for OurCompany, it will not be because there are no such things as snow days in the adult world. We already have a two day warning that snow is coming, and that means the plows will be out and the roads will be fine. If people need extra time to get out of their driveways that's ok but the weather is not going to be an acceptable excuse to take the day off
:bs: we got the same message except delivered in person by the boss
Ours is basically "Office will be open, but use your best judgement on whether it's safe to drive in. If you don't come in, you must use vacation time."GB a laptop and high speed internet :workfromhome: :goodposting:

We received an email about Weds too, but they told us if they close we will know by 5:30am, or if they close early, our bosses will let us know and to use our best judgement about making the trek in.. :moneybag:

I pointed out the tags to him in another thread. Unfazed. If CY really wants to make the big time, he has to stop taking shortcuts. Enunciate every word.

:excited:those can happen in extreme cold with no snow, yet people freak out b/c of a little snowstorm. makes no sense.

Just about got sideswiped by a soccer mom in a minivan today. Must've been no more than an inch, and I barely bit it into a parking lot given her stupidity. It's not always about what you can control in this mess.

Oh, I'm aware. Lots of idiots in the world who don't know how to drive in bad weather.I take a train to work so I get to avoid the roads. Be careful out there.

Predicted this.

Well, understand that a huge amount of the concern over snow has to do with driving. Like, most of it.
I've lived in Buffalo, Vermont, and Chicago and always had a car. Never had a problem driving in snow. Not sure what else I'm supposed to do. If you live in an area that knows how to handle snow, there's not much to worry about. They shut the roads down when there's an actual blizzard. If the roads are plowed and salted, they are usually safe to drive on.Most people stay home when the weather is bad b/c of all this fear so that makes things easier too.

Ugh. Super-slammed with work, and on top of it all, have to get new biz cards, learn Twitter, etc for upcoming networking event. Shoot me now. It's after 9:30 CMT and I'm still nowhere done. Thank God for Fireman's 4 and herbal supplements.

To top it all off, a potential client asked me for a resume. I e-mailed him back and said, "I haven't had to show a resume in more than eight years, but here is my current client list. Can I get back to you tomorrow after I update my old resume?"

In a way, I was insulted. It's like walking into a law firm and asking a lawyer to see their resume.

Fortunately, possible client got the message and said to forget the resume and send him a link to current work.

I wouldn't know what to ask for if I were hiring you. I'd probably do a cursory search on google for how to hire a graphics design person and move on from there. If I were the potential client and the vendor said that to me, I'd be worried that I'd gotten the relationship off on the wrong foot and might move on just to avoid the embarrassment. If you want their business, make sure you work the relationship here and don't take offense - especially after they got the message. You can turn a potential negative into a positive here by being effusive in your thanks and excitement to work on their project, but if you don't know this person well, you need to act fairly quickly to do it imo.

went to the Trader Joe's tonight and the place was a complete zoo. long lines and empty shelves. people acting like they won't get back to the store until March.

When the end times come, booze become currency. Smart move, really...
Looking forward to Ernest & Julio Gallo infomercials on FoxNews.
