GM's thread about nothing (15 Viewers)

Just got home. No way I was going to get stuck at the office.

Blizzard warning in full effect.
Ours goes into effect at 3pm.Hasn't stopped snowing since last night. But they say the heaviest isnt supposed to get here til after 5 tonight.

Should be a fun ride home.

I concluded today that Neko Case is one of the finest, if not the finest, singer of our generation.
Great voice. Kind of boring after a while though.

Even her work with the New Pornographers? She's versatile, and she has soul. Dunno what's not to love there.
And she has n00ds.

How can I find out what cellphone works up in the northern part of Minnesota on the border with Canada? My sister's house burned to the ground Saturday, and the only phone they have is her husband's work cell. I want to send her one, along with a bunch of other stuff.
Sorry to hear that. Is this near the Boundry Waters? I've been up to Gun Flint Lake twice and the people up there had problems with fires a few years ago. Nicest people in the world.

I know absolutely nothing about the area, except it might as well be Canada. She's near Lake of the Woods.

Good walleye fishing.

"Every Chicago resident should brace for a storm that will be remembered for a long time," one city official cautioned
:blackdot:
"Except Aaron Rudnicki, who is always prepared for calamitous weather and actually welcomes this storm with open arms."

"I think he has a coat or something. We suggest everyone get a coat."

I thought you were from Minnesota?

Any good nuggets in here from the past week that I may have missed?
The answer is no. And, with respect to you Shuke, I detest your question. This is a very complicated matter with a long history behind it. There is a tendency among FBGs to want to know the "nuggets" for every thread, and it usually leads to rash opinions and rash decisions made by our leaders under pressure.I'm sure some people here will try to comply with your request and they will come up with a few sentences which seem to sum up the matter, but they won't. I consider myself fairly knowledgeable on GM's Thread About Nothing and with each hour I am learning that I didn't know anything. I advise you to ignore the "nuggets" and spend some real time examining this issue if you want to form a reasonable opinion about it.

Thanks, GM and Mr. Pack, for your kind thoughts. Fortunately, they had been invited to dinner that evening, and had all left the house. So no one was in the house. The kids were all safe. No one was heroically trying to put out the fire or running in to grab something. Everyone is safe and alive. Everything else is just stuff. It was really a blessing, that if the house was going to burn, they were all some place else. Their friends saved their lives by being hospitable. They were guardian angels that evening. When my sister's family returned to their house, there was nothing but embers. It was burned down to the foundation.

Games at my school have been cancelled for this evening because there is a possiblity that it might snow an inch or two. There isn't any snow yet. We haven't had snow that actually stuck at all this year, or for several years for that matter. But we are gearing up for the big one. The news outlets showed the snow plows have salt and sand and are at the ready.

Make sure they hire a good public adjuster.

I picked up some 50 cent pieces at the bank last week. When my 5 year old saw them, he asked what they were and if he could have one, so I explain it's the same as two quarters and gave him one.

My mom comes over and he shows her his new coin. She says, "OH! when I was a little girl I had a 50 cent piece and I thought I was RICH!"

Alex replies, "weren't very smart, were ya?"

Hope they have insurance...since everyone seems to be okay.

I'm kind of bummed to miss the Chicago snowpocalypse.

60 degrees here now but we might have to turn our furnaces on tomorrow.
