GM's thread about nothing (21 Viewers)

Steve Smith: Hey, Roger, a missing remote. Looks like another case for...
Steve Smith, Roger: [both] Wheels and the Legman!
Klaus: Enough!
Roger: What the hell's your problem?
Klaus: Every "Wheels and the Legman" is the same. You pick a boring case, you bicker, then you solve it. The solution usually being that Roger is the culprit.
Roger: It's true. I've got the remote right here.

Just found out our 18 y.o. intern from Winnetka (upscale Chcago suburb) is a heroin addict. He's been stealing money from his host family - 3 occasions, about $200 total. They found a tourniquet and a couple empty small bags in their third floor attic.

I want to throw up.

I have to call his mom in a few minutes. She used to be the SEC Director in Chicago, got recruited to be a partner at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius last year. JFC I am dreading this.
I totally get it

Had to put Junior the Cat down today. He had acute kidney failure. Only had him here for about 6 weeks. Mata's had him for over a decade and she's wrecked over it. Doc - pretty, Taylor Swiftish-looking - was pretty blunt about his chances.

TWP to roboto & Sac & everyone else.

You didn't even know about the ginger waitress when you typed this. No need for thoprawishes for that. I'll survive.

Sorry man.

Perhaps posting pics of the doc would make you feel better?

Also, how's your mom doing?

Didn't think to take a pic.

My mom is doing ok, thanks. Gonna finalize Dad's obit tomorrow morning.

Mostly venting because this infuriates me, but I know we have a lot of lawyers in here so if anyone has advice I'll pass it along..

My little sister got arrested over the weekend. She was driving from Houston back to Dallas after visiting family. Got pulled over by a state trooper in a small town around 5PM in broad daylight. Cop said he pulled her over because she didn't have a front license plate. Then he told her that he smelled marijuana and had probable cause to search her car. She told me she tried weed once a decade ago and hasn't smoked it since. She is not the drug taking type. He had her get out and placed her in handcuffs. She said he went through every little nook and cranny of her car, attempting to locate any fake doors or hiding spots. After coming up empty he searched the trunk, and found a bottle of anti-depressant medicine prescribed to my mom. Arrested, booked, spent all evening in jail and got out late at night.

She said from the very beginning of the encounter that the cop had an attitude and was being extremely rude. To me it's just insane that a cop has the authority to stop a car for such a BS reason, make up a complete lie about smelling marijuana, and then spend so much time completely searching an innocent person's vehicle. Apparently the charge is worse than a DWI. Surely that won't stick though, right? I mean good grief she had a bottle of anti-depressant pills prescribed to another family member in a bag in the trunk, it's not like it was Xanax or Hydro-codeine or anything nefarious.

The more I think about it the angrier I get.

I'm guessing buffalo.

Get a lawyer. If she's in a jurisdiction that tolerates that kind of police behavior then the da and Jp are likely evil too.

Not far off. Madisonville, just a little further south on 45.

I told her to talk to a lawyer ASAP. I feel bad that this will likely end up being expensive for her.

I'm curious if there is anything that can be done to the trooper or are they pretty much untouchable? It was obvious that the marijuana thing was complete bull####. What's the point of having rights at all if any cop can always just claim they smell weed and instantly have access to your entire vehicle? So crazy.

Not to be a #### but legit question: why did she have the pills?
I don't know the specifics. My mom was recently admitted to the hospital and my sister somehow took possession of them at that time. Sister works in a pharmacy and I believe was going to properly dispose of them. She told the officer that and he had none of it.

Maybe I'm naive and sister was doing something wrong. But knowing her as I do, I don't think she had any ill intentions regarding the medicine.

What is a Hobby Lobby?
It's a craft store. Around here there's Michaels and A.C. Moore. Not sure what you've got in Oregon.
Yeah, Michaels is here, though I avoid it like the sun.
Biggest disappointment from Saturday: GM was not actually pale.

Biggest thrill from Saturday: He was, however, wearing a visor.

I cried yesterday to something a lot less moving than that.
I cried reading a post on NW Hikers forum about someone's dog dying.

And roboto, sorry for your loss. :(
It's like you're all my wife, who cried watching a TV show last night

What was she charged with? F or M?

So as much fun as it was to call the intern's mom to let her know her son is a thief and an addict, my boss has an more joyful task tomorrow. He's driving to Philly for an intervention with the father.

(intern is the CEO's nephew)

Oh, and he looks like a band member, but actually he was all-conference WR & sprinter. Still can't wrap my head around a kid from that kind of background shooting up.
