GM's thread about nothing (21 Viewers)

Here's my latest house update. Sellers had 3 offers at full price. They picked us. This week the appraisal came in 30k low. We offered 25k less than original offer and they took it. Good for me, I think. Need a real estate mogul to weigh in.
Thanks for the input here, gang.

I guess I should have asked everyone to list their 10 favorite/least favorite cheeses in order.

Don't really know what kind of input you were looking for up there, though. You had already made your move and it was accepted. What do you need?

Whether it seems to you like we got a good deal paying less than asking since there were other bidders at full price or whether we are complete morons for paying more than the house appraised at.

Despite the general impression that I crave attention and positive reinforcement, I really like critical feedback.

People gave you feedback before and you weren't all that keen on it. The real answer is that none of us knows. If you feel good about it, then it's good. Appraisals are kind of bunk anyway.

You seem, and you know I mean this with  in my heart (and elsewhere), a little cranky these days. Despite the fact that I seem to want to do this every few months, moving is hellishly stressful, and I get it.

What was the reason for the over market pricing on them? The neighborhood? Is it applying to almost everywhere in Austin?

That's the weird thing. There were 3 people willing to pay what they wanted. So it seems like market pricing was under-appraised. Austin is a bit of a boomtown right now. It's all confusing. PR chick loves the house and thinks we got a good deal so I'm going with that for now.

I love you JB. I don't know #### about housing or money or anything really. Except cheese. That's all we do here. I don't have a foam hat, because #### that. Real cheeseheads use real cheese. And a block of cheese that size is pretty expensive. And it's baseball season so a block of cheddar (with swiss holes) on your head in the heat probably isn't a good idea. Well maybe it's not so bad because it'll turn hard and be like a helmet. It'd still be kinda warm though. And stinky. On second thought if I'm wearing cheese on my head, I'm probably not very smart. Chicken or the egg #### right there.

At any rate, it's $5k. Maybe the owners just like you guys. Didn't you offer a discount on your house to someone you know? You're comfortable with that. Maybe these people are more comfortable with you

When you made your original offer, if you'd offered $25K less and they'd accepted, how would you have felt? Feel that way about it

In Port Townsend.
No offense, but wtf is wrong with you?Serious question. I'm a total vagabond and have never lived more than a few years in the same place, but you're bordering on psychosis here.
Serious answer, well that's just a stupid post.

Well yeah, your post was stupid. Now tell us what the hell is going on in your head!

I think may have used this before with you, but when someone as ridiculously f'd up as ME is questioning you...it might be time to re-evaluate.

I'll post a real reply tomorrow. Too full of chocolate chip cookies now.

i took a crap the other day and it was black and i freaked the #### out. i know red means you might have a roid or maybe you ate beets so don't freak out right away, but i thought black meant you were dying. i seriously almost threw up on the empty package of oreos in the trash can.
Did you drink a grip of red wine?
i thought only people from Beloit referred to quantities as "grip"
Where is Beloit? California term, beach/stoner/NorCal slang

If you really like the house, don't sweat the 5k. I have no clue what the market is in babe land, but k4's house went up 25% in 2 weeks

South central Wisconsin just north of Illinois border. A truly magical place like DeKalb.

So you ended up paying 5k over the appraised value? And it's a house that makes you and angrywife happy? 100% win. Don't take an appraisal as gold anyway. It's just some jackamoe's opinion at one instant in time.

I'm afraid if I say anything, she'll buy my house out from under me and turn me out in the street.

I'm going to miss sitting on the back porch with my neighbor and drinking all his beer.

K4 - Good luck with your next house. Maybe it will be "the one."
