Windy City Heat

I watched this because I think dollar for dollar Bob Goldthwaite is possibly making the best films in the industry right now. "Sleeping Dogs Lie" was brilliant and "World's Greatest Dad" was very thoughtful and provocative. Bobcat makes you think about important things, no matter how uncomfortable. That he sometimes enhances the discomfort to a level that many viewer find the film unwatchable is his flaw as well as his genius.

I do not know if I have ever had a film make me more uncomfortable than than Windy City Heat. Its basically a 90 minute practical joke, where everyone in the film, except for the lead (Caravello) is in on the joke. The things he is put though made me shudder and its cruelty almost made it unwatchable, even for me. What finally saved it, is that I imagined his friend/antagonist (Don Barris) and Melvin Scupper and Caravello as LHUCKS. That really made it work for me and I was able to watch it through to the end.

Other things that I found surprising was Jimmy Kimmel co-wrote it and Dane Cook is actually funny in his limited role.

3.2/5 stars
I take it back.

Please discuss. I was never a very big fan of Bobcat and now think he's phenomenal, but I can never seem to get anyone to talk to me about his work.

Well, I'm not really the right person to talk with you about his work, as I'm not sure I'm aware of any of it past his early 90s(?) stupid stuff.

If you ever have a lobster bake, make ####### sure you put the trash in the city bags they take right away. Don't rely on your brother to do it like he said he would on his way out. What fun it is to discover a week later that not only is there rank lobster parts and juice in your trash can, but you have to re-bag it.

Words cannot describe the rankness. I mean I can't even put it on a 10 scale. I need an exponential scale to rate it against the worst odors I have ever encountered. I had to walk away several times to avoid vomiting, and eventually gave up on tying them off for a couple hours to let my stomach settle. When I came back, the stench was just as bad. And this was outside.

Even thinking about it now I have to stifle a gag reflex. Great googily moogily.

Look at me! I eat lobster!

I received a completely unexpected apology today from a FBG who had been alarmingly and unexpectedly publicly insulting to me some months ago. Nothing more to say other than I wanted to acknowledge that people around here can be really cool in reaching out and doing stuff like that, and I appreciate that. :hifive:

Do me a favor- watch Sleeping Dogs Lie and get past the first 10 minutes. If you can't find a copy, PM me your address and I'll send it to you. Its really a phenomenal movie. If you can make it thru the first 10 min.

OK, only because you generally have impeccable taste in movies. :blackdot:

Who is stalking Bentley in my Facebook thread? There are a few FBG FB friends who I can't remember the usernames for, and this is one of them. Sorry, bentley. Unless, that is, you're turned on, in which case... :lmao:

I really want to like the boom king shtick, but I'm not sure I get it.
Yeah, I've been lost for a while now. It doesn't really make any impression... like diet soda.
Celery for me. I don't dislike it.

You're getting a little defensive. I'm with krista on this. It's just kind of there. I'm kind of pulling for you, brah.
