GM's thread about nothing (23 Viewers)

I really should cut down on the internet. I got a text today from a woman I work with. I guess she was at the school and wanted to know if I was there so I could put in the alarm code."hey are you at school? i thought i saw your car in the parking lot"I totally forgot I had her in my contacts. Her last name is "Bentley". She comes up on my phone as "Bentley"My first thought? "When did I give FBG Bentley my phone number and why is he in Bakersfield?" :bag:
Gosh, I hope you don't work with anyone with last names like: Gadzooks, Shamwow, Frostilicus or Bonzai.

Well I found a new bookie.Frosty, let's talk. And Reg. I noticed Reginald (Bender) basically lived in the grambling thread last time I frequented it.I think I want to change my style and make fewer, larger bets and try not to become completely obsessed with it. So if you guys could help me out with 10 picks a week that hit at a 70% clip, I'd appreciate it.I like the NO tout, esp. the halftime line suggestion.
I'll post my plays here once I get up and running during NFL season - you probably don't want to listen to me though. I took 6 months off after a brutal cold streak on the poker table and in the NFL. MLB is usually what I do best with. bmj87 is pretty good in that thread as is lumpy. TheGooRoo is the best in the business but usually only plays props which I doubt you can get through a local. Just stay away from MarshallPlan - he's the guy who comes into post his plays AFTER the game is over and brags about how awesome he did. Never heard him lamenting about a losing week once. Probably the reason I stopped posting in the Wagering thread. Had about enough of his crap.I believe there was a guy in the Shark Pool who hit a pretty high percentage the past few years on NFL games - I think koyrunner or something was his handle.
yeah, I agree with your eval of the cast of characters over there. like 20% of it, its the other 80% you have to wade thru to get to it.I also play much more mlb than nfl.I am starting to think the NFL is unbeatable with a vig.
lolz at him warning you about MP (good looking out, BTW). MP, Cos and I go way way back in a way back machine. True story: Marshall played one year in the HFFL with us. Probably 8 years ago...whatever year it was that Santana Moss blew up and had a huge year. I offered to trade him to MP for something very reasonable 1/3 of the way. Guy trashed the deal and called Moss a one game wonder. Never forget it.He's a bit on the boorish side.
Wasn't he like 17 at the time or something? Or am I getting my notebooks confused?
If it was 8 years ago, I'd imagine that's correct. He seemed nice sometimes but it was just amazing he refused to be embarrassed about getting called out on making #### up.

I've had PMs/emails from him in the thousands. He's a good kid, and yeah, I think he was 18/19 when he started. I haven't been around that thread in years due to the volume of a-holes, but 6 or so years ago he wasn't that bad, just very inquisitive, wanting to learn. Has that changed?

btw, golfsino is running a DB free gambling forum. Just a few veterans, no BS, and good results. It's kind of specialized on hockey, with Bill, doc and myself, but guru stops by every now and then, red too... Referrals only invitation.

I am in progress with my season previews and should be posting them within the next 3-4 weeks, around the start of training camp.

I was active on another couple of good gambling forums (with Santa, 3G and W2W) , but they all went the way of covers over the last 3-4 years, so I don't frequent them anymore. It's sad when you have to resort to invitation only to sort of the riff-raff.

He fancies himself an expert now with the way he talks. It's nauseating.Posting nothing but ridiculous middles that no one can find anywhere. He refuses to post them before the games because he doesn't want us "moving the lines on him" which begs the question as to why he's participating at all since he provides no help to anyone. He said he was retiring like 20 times and stated he made 6 figures in 2009 or something. He can't make a post without crowbarring in how much money he is making. We've all asked him to stop numerous times, but he comes back and does it again. I came back after he retired, then he came back and I left again. If here's there - I'm out

I've been running well this season but it's all baseball props, and I'm usually playing 6-10 every day. If you're interested, shoot me a PM with your email address. I can either send you everything each day or if there's a particularly juicy one every so often could just send you those.
HMm. looking at his website, there seem to be quite a few mlb props offered. PM sent

And Reg.

Does he offer decent lines? What sports?I had my greek account shut down, and heritage wasn't interested in my business, so I'm down to 3 outs, all only accessible via jumphosts in Europe and European bankaccounts, so it's a pain to place bets. I'd like to have a couple of phone options (my local is a football only guy).
Local guy with a website. Sure he's connected somewhere. Regular bets are normal -110/At first glace, props seem to be -115

I'm usually not one to get too serious here but I'm pretty devistated right now.

About a year ago my sister's husband, Bret, was diagnosed with having a tumor in his esophagus. The original plan was to shrink it with radiation...chemo...yadda yadda. Everything looked good after however many rounds and the tumor shrunk. About 6 months ago he was getting ready to go down to L.A. for surgery when they did another scan and found something on his liver. Surgery was put off for more treatments etc etc.

The last 3 months or so have been brutal. Bret went from being a 6ft 200lb healthy looking guy in his early 50s to ashen and skinny.

My mom just called me. She was over at my sister's house today and she took my mom aside to talk. Bret and my sister decided to end all treatments. As Bret put it "it's pointless now".

I've known Bret for probably 30 years. I don't consider him my brother-in-law as much as my 3rd brother. I knew things weren't going well as far as his treatment but I didn't think it would come down to this this fast.

I'm going to have some (dozens) drinks and fumble around and #### up this Survivor draft like I always do. Thanks for letting me vent.

Really sorry to hear this. I've never had anyone in my life make that choice, but I have to think that if he's making the choice, it's in his best interest. Quality vs. quantity of life, etc.

I know that doesn't make it any easier on you and others who love him.

Vent here anytime.

:sadbanana:

I agree. He's the kind of guy you imagine dying in a bar fight at the age of 84 or rescuing a busload of orphans (or beer truck) going over a cliff...not a shell of himself hooked up to a bunch of machines.

That's really tough McJ. Nothing makes you feel more helpless than seeing a strong friend go down, especially to a cruel ##### of a disease like cancer. Stay strong- I'm sure he wouldn't want you getting too messed up over his problems. Try to grant him that.

Sorry Tanner. I don't know what else to say. If you need me to send you a picture of my junk to cheer you up just let me know. And also I'd need your phone number.

Saints are -.5 1H

in for $50
300 :bag: Looked better than the -2.5 for the game- too much crazy #### can happen with the 4th and 5th stringers in the second half.
Cos,No clue if you're watching this game or not, but if you're betting the Saints it's been a roller coaster.

[*]Saints take the kickoff and march right down the field. They run a play action and the Texans are in Brees' face and force and recover a fumble

[*]Texans score on next drive

[*]Saints drive again, and on 4th and short they run a shovel pass except the Texans absolutely rape Darren Sproles. No flag...one of the worst no calls I've ever seen, no exaggeration at all. I guess the refs are in preseason too

[*]Texans score on next drive

[*]Brees out, Chase Daniel in....he throws a bomb for a TD.

[*]Texans have ball now up by 3 with 6 minutes left in the half

ETA: Saints with a personal foul after the play :banghead:

Tanner how's your fancy football draft going? You should post stuff in here so we can help out. At least those of us who are doing nothing on a Saturday night because we have two stupid kids and are tired from playing softball all day.

At least those of us who are doing nothing on a Saturday night because we have two stupid kids and are tired from playing softball waited around all day for realtors to come by for an open house, went for a run, cooked two casseroles along with homemade spaghetti sauce all day, and am now waiting (again) for my husband to come home from the Poker Room (last I heard @ 7:00, he was leaving at 8:00)

ahh, for some reason I thought you were in BR. I might be hitting NO one of these trips (at least 1 every 3-4 weeks). I'll let you know.

about 105% sure that's shtick
not necessarily. My local took LLWS for the local teams games, both last year and this (got knocked out in the Regional final.

god i love you. i feel i know everything about you. we are like kindle souls. as soon as you dump that guy in niguargua look me up.

I, too, am interested in sports wagering, but haven't done it in years and am generally very wary of online sites. Thoughts?
what are you looking for, foots only? if memory serves me right you're pretty solid on foots. My local guys does Am. Football only.
Soccer would be my big thing, but I'd be comfortable betting on NFL and CFB. Boxing as well, although I don't know how in-depth the boxing gambling scene is. I wouldn't mind "tailing" someone on other sports I don't know much about - MLB, NBA, etc. - because I think it'd make the games more interesting.I don't have a local guy and wouldn't know where to start. Have you had good success with online sites? I wouldn't be putting all that much money out there, it would mostly just be a fun thing - not looking to make some serious money. I am very wary of sending my money to the Cayman Islands or something, though, only to never see it again.

I am about to lose a lot of money.

Too bad, guru_007, I have extra cookies from our realtor open house today and planned to send them to you upon the win.

Yeah, I have quite a bit of experience with online books, from the last 10 or so years. Some books have been a mess to deal with, others very easy. The biggest problem with online books right now is the crack down/domain closures from the feds. Most of the reputable books have shut down action from the US, neteller shut out US transfers, and we are now left with books with less than stellar reputation (some regarding financial concerns, some shutting players down after winning, and some locking accounts and not paying out winnings).I currently have 3 books, funded from Europe, Pinnacle, Interwetten and Expekt, but neither will take US customers. Placing bets is a hassle, and deposits/withdrawals even more so. My intention this weekend is to research US options, but so far I have only found legends (who has a bad reputation for cutting guys off), bookmaker (seems like a decent choice and could potentially be funded through netspend), 5dimes (who has a good rep, but rumors are they might shut down) and heritage (who's invite only and refused to take my action).Neither one of the above is super appealing to me, since I'm looking for NHL only. From a local perspective I have a guy that only takes NFL/college football, and another somewhat shady guy with funding from CR. He takes NHL, but the lines are crappy and I just don't trust him enough for any sizable play. It's a sad state of affairs in the land of the "free" :(
