GM's thread about nothing (39 Viewers)

I, too, am interested in sports wagering, but haven't done it in years and am generally very wary of online sites. Thoughts?
what are you looking for, foots only? if memory serves me right you're pretty solid on foots. My local guys does Am. Football only.
Soccer would be my big thing, but I'd be comfortable betting on NFL and CFB. Boxing as well, although I don't know how in-depth the boxing gambling scene is. I wouldn't mind "tailing" someone on other sports I don't know much about - MLB, NBA, etc. - because I think it'd make the games more interesting.I don't have a local guy and wouldn't know where to start. Have you had good success with online sites? I wouldn't be putting all that much money out there, it would mostly just be a fun thing - not looking to make some serious money. I am very wary of sending my money to the Cayman Islands or something, though, only to never see it again.
Yeah, I have quite a bit of experience with online books, from the last 10 or so years. Some books have been a mess to deal with, others very easy. The biggest problem with online books right now is the crack down/domain closures from the feds. Most of the reputable books have shut down action from the US, neteller shut out US transfers, and we are now left with books with less than stellar reputation (some regarding financial concerns, some shutting players down after winning, and some locking accounts and not paying out winnings).I currently have 3 books, funded from Europe, Pinnacle, Interwetten and Expekt, but neither will take US customers. Placing bets is a hassle, and deposits/withdrawals even more so. My intention this weekend is to research US options, but so far I have only found legends (who has a bad reputation for cutting guys off), bookmaker (seems like a decent choice and could potentially be funded through netspend), 5dimes (who has a good rep, but rumors are they might shut down) and heritage (who's invite only and refused to take my action).Neither one of the above is super appealing to me, since I'm looking for NHL only. From a local perspective I have a guy that only takes NFL/college football, and another somewhat shady guy with funding from CR. He takes NHL, but the lines are crappy and I just don't trust him enough for any sizable play. It's a sad state of affairs in the land of the "free" :(
5dimes has actually been highly recommended to me by 2 friends who are fairly heavy sports gamblers. It really is a shame that gambling is as vilified as it is. The lack of reputable site is literally the only thing keeping me from gambling. I'm not a poker player, but reading about guys who had their accounts frozen and couldn't take their money out? That scares the #### out of me.

yeah, 5dimes has a good rep, I'm just worried about them being next in line. The rumors may be unfounded, but I'm a little worried sending them a portion of my bankroll. I'd much rather send to a site I know is "safe", even if it's a hassle.

I'm really sorry for anyway that tailed my saints play. the only thing that I hate more than losing money is other people losing money because of my posts, so I will not post any more plays in here. I honestly feel horribly, especially since I will not get any cookies, but seriously, the Saints didnt blitz at all in the first half, had a horrible turnover and well, I feel like #### now honestly.

And McJose, I feel horribly about your bil, that is just a devastating situation there, I am sad. Not sure if you are a God fearing man or not, but I will say a prayer tonight whether you like it or not.

Again, I'm really sorry :( g'night

I'm usually not one to get too serious here but I'm pretty devistated right now.About a year ago my sister's husband, Bret, was diagnosed with having a tumor in his esophagus. The original plan was to shrink it with radiation...chemo...yadda yadda. Everything looked good after however many rounds and the tumor shrunk. About 6 months ago he was getting ready to go down to L.A. for surgery when they did another scan and found something on his liver. Surgery was put off for more treatments etc etc.The last 3 months or so have been brutal. Bret went from being a 6ft 200lb healthy looking guy in his early 50s to ashen and skinny. My mom just called me. She was over at my sister's house today and she took my mom aside to talk. Bret and my sister decided to end all treatments. As Bret put it "it's pointless now". I've known Bret for probably 30 years. I don't consider him my brother-in-law as much as my 3rd brother. I knew things weren't going well as far as his treatment but I didn't think it would come down to this this fast. I'm going to have some (dozens) drinks and fumble around and #### up this Survivor draft like I always do. Thanks for letting me vent.
Just saw this. Terrible.Best wishes to you and the family.

thanks all.. so hammered right now. i keep checking facebbok for people that would be willing to meet me at one of the nearby bars for booze

Probably won't be able to run numbers tomorrow. Softball games start at 10 and props don't come out until 11 and I'm not bringing a laptop to softball because it's already dumb enough. Sorry folks.

I remember the GooRoo having a preternatural record playing props, which sport does he typically specialize in?I'm tired.
All of 'em. He's said his best is baseball. I'm a subscriber. I'm doing better this year. I also have no clue about other sports, but I gottem on baseball.

Well, after some research it looks like bookmaker and diamond are the only two options. It'll be a hassle to fund, having to do multiple WU transfers, but oh well.ETA: reading review on bookmaker online... yikes

Well I found a new bookie.

Frosty, let's talk.

And Reg.

I noticed Reginald (Bender) basically lived in the grambling thread last time I frequented it.

I think I want to change my style and make fewer, larger bets and try not to become completely obsessed with it. So if you guys could help me out with 10 picks a week that hit at a 70% clip, I'd appreciate it.

I like the NO tout, esp. the halftime line suggestion.
Does he offer decent lines? What sports?I had my greek account shut down, and heritage wasn't interested in my business, so I'm down to 3 outs, all only accessible via jumphosts in Europe and European bankaccounts, so it's a pain to place bets. I'd like to have a couple of phone options (my local is a football only guy).
Local guy with a website. Sure he's connected somewhere. Regular bets are normal -110/At first glace, props seem to be -115
any hockey? would he be open to non-Austin clients?
I'll ask. Its a brand new relationship, but I came in with great references/credentials. (i.e., loser who pays on time)

TannerJose, I'm sorry man. What a crappy lot some people get in this life. Sorry for you and sorry for your BIL.

Guru, shake it off man. I tailed you because it sounded right to me, not because you made me. No grudge.

I also have a local bookmaker in Austin. I didn't realize they were such rare commodities.

Frosty> Really disappointed we don't have any ### shot of Amanda yet.

And I'm about 31 hours from having another kid so I'm ####faced.

:goodposting: :goodposting: :goodposting: :goodposting: :goodposting: Congrats on the kid. If you don't have a name picked yet, I recommend Bentley Von-Shukernicki. Or Clarence.

I am about to lose a lot of money.
Didn't you see? We won +0.96 units tonight.
By the time I got around to your email, most of the props were gone. No shtick. I tailed two. I'll check to see what happened.Regardless, the Saints are going to F me and not gently.
God I wish I was a Saint.
Tanner, I'm so sorry about your BIL. Because I have no comforting words, instead I offer

:lmao: :lmao:

The good news? Thanks to youtube I got to introdce my 16 year old to Eddie Murphy's "drunk dad/it'smyhouse/auntbunny/goonygoogoo" segment. Pretty much the best 10 minutes of stand up in the last 30 years.

Sorry to hear GB

I'm almost certain I watched that Youtube clip just a couple of days ago and noticed it "only" had 2 million hits or so. Over 4mil now. From one Brett to a Bret, :banned: . I never had many cancer issues in my family growing up, but in the past 15 years or so, I've unfortunately been introduced to it. #### cancer.

Sorry to hear it, GB. Cancer is such a furious beast. Zilla and a few other guys are watching cancer take the life of their 32 year old friend right now. It's been a nightmare. Poor kid was happy go lucky a year ago, received diagnosis in late December of 2010 and is in hospice now after 8 months of painful, horrible, agonizing procedures to erradicate it. I've lost good friends and two wonderful dogs to it much much too soon. Anyhow, sorry you are going through it with your family. :(

I use Sportsbook but am not near the player Charv is in size. I am in no danger of having my plays cut as I suck like the giant vaccuum in Space Balls. But I do have a few rules. I start with a set amount - nothing over a $1,000. Anytime I double, I take half out via check, no exceptions. Poop the bed? That's it for a few weeks. If something ever went 'wrong' with Sportsbook, I'd never be in a position where I was losing HUGE money.

If any of you is a reader, do yourself a favor and get Laura Hillenbrand's book, Unbroken. Utterly riveting - one of the best books I've read in quite a while.

So, I'm on my way into the office, when I come up on a convoy of white buses. All the buses are from the same company and obviously traveling together. I can't but help notice on the back that each bus has the name of the company (Gotta Go Trailways), two phone numbers, and an email address. It was the email address that caught me off guard. The email address was:

gottago1@flash.net

This got me thinking the following:

This fairly substantial company does not have it's own website?

With no website, you couldn't take the time to set up even a unique email address?

With no unique email address, what are the odds that you go with a company (flash.net) that didn't survive the dot-com bust?

Not only that, you go with a company where "gottago@flash.net" is already taken, and you are stuck with "gottago1@flash.net"?

This reeks of the owner's 14 year old son taken over the IT department just in time to set all of this up, and then a total laziness on the part of the whole company to change and adapt.

Yes, I'm at work running reports and bored out of my mind.

Better than "gottago2".
