GM's thread about nothing (14 Viewers)

Is anybody here in the Phily area? Are there any good FGB's that live there? Will be watching the Thursday Night ESPN Ducks vs. Cal game at 9pm somewhere around the Wayne Hotel in Wayne, PA. Wherever that is. I don't know anybody in Phily or the surrounding area except my cousin. Right? Am I missing anybody?

Had lunch with one of the managers at our largest client today. We've always spoken on the phone, so this was our first B&M meeting. Really nice guy, and we had a pleasant lunch. Halfway through, I have this realization:Oh my god, he looks exactly like Shuke.
You didn't snap a pic?

Yes, that was very helpful. Dickfor. The chick in the middle of Jeopardy is sneaky hot. Not many 6.5-7s that hit that show.

His wife won't let him in chat...you think she's going to greenlight a bar outing with an iFriend? I have a better shot having a beer with Placido Polanco.

I don't understand how anybody likes this show The Big Bang Theory. I've tried, for four years I've tried, and I'm a big science nerd type guy, but it's just terrible.

Crazy

In this picture:

[*]600 pound black bear

[*]my friend Adam

Obviously we've taken a fews points of departure since high school, but this would be the Monday morning convo if we worked together:

Him: Hey, dude...how was the long weekend?

Me: Nice and mellow, family stuff...took the kids to Seussical, day at the Bronx Zoo, toddler birthday party. The usual. You?

Him: Tracked a black bear for 3 days. Took him down from 30 yards just as he was turning to charge.

Me:

JFC

I grew up hunting white tail deer, but I can't even imagine the mindset anymore.

ETA: I think I exaggerated the guesstimate on the weight. Still a ####### badass.
Serious question:Why not just leave the bear alone?

Serious answer:Wildlife management.

I can't answer directly about bears or black bears because I have never applied for a permit tag or studied their numbers. But everything in Michigan is regulated by the Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

The DNR attempts to balance the needs of wildlife with the needs of people using the best available science. They are constantly monitoring the populations of bear, deer, all manner of fish species to determine what the appropriate conservation method should be.

Let's take white tailed deer for example. The available resources - the naturally occurring food supply that can be found by the herd - supports roughly 1.5 million deer. If we didn't allow a fall/winter harvest by hunters, the herd would grow to an unsustainable level. There wouldn't be enough food to go around.

There are a lot of factors that go into why the herd population rises or falls, but weather is biggest determinant. Harsh winters thin the herd, mild winters increase their numbers. But more deer = less food per deer.

AFAIK, they basically keep the same number of rifle permits for male bucks every year. Based on what is happening with the size of the herd, they might issue fewer or more doe permits, and do the same with shotgun (basically rural areas outside Detroit) or bow permits.

I don't know for certain, but I imagine the same process is applied to the bear population. We're not living in a wilderness where the wildlife have an abundant food supply. Since man's encroachment is the reason their resources are limited, it makes sense we come up with a solution that stabilizes their environment at a sustainable level.

Anyway, sounds good, eh? The real reason is it's fun to hunt. The rest is just rationalization.

;)

As an avid fisherman/very rare hunter, I agree with the above. Responsible management and conservation includes regulated hunting.

As a side note, just today we had two black bears sighted by the elementary school by me. Kids weren't allowed to walk home, and kids that took the bus had to be met by parents.

They get that a lot in Jersey. Bears wandering around suburban neighborhoods all the time (and everyone remembers the Sopranos episode that featured that). It's what happens when they can't find enough food where they live - they come to where you live.

Gonna be in the Baltimore area tomorrow with a buddy. He's looking for reco's for strip clubs and weed. Lol. Any one??

went out of town last weekend and left some bananas out. my house is full of fruit flies now. I'm thinking of moving out.

My friends are now asking me who safariplanet is. Thanks, Tanner.
My wife asked "Why did that guy call you general malaise?"I totally tanner'd her and said "He played Dan Fielding on Night Court. I guess he thinks I look like him"  :whoosh:
can you explain how this happens for those of us that have more separation between our board interactions and real life?
Facebook announces your birthday. Mine was Monday, Keys' was Thursday. Facebook friends can post messages on your wall that wish you a happy birthday or tell you to #### off, either way.McJose posted on my wall - "Happy birthday general malaise"McJose posted on Keys' wall - "Happy birthday safariplanet"A wall is like a homepage for facebook. facebook still confuses me. I only joined to cyberstalk this Swedish girl I met. as a middle aged guy with younger friends, I'm still not sure what posts I'm getting notified of and which I'm not. these girls keep taking my phone at bars and updating my status for me and uploading photos, and I can never figure out why some show up and some don't. then all of a sudden I notice that my niece is commenting on a picture she probably never wanted to see.I feel like unfrozen caveman.

I don't even miss Steve Carrell in the Office. Cast is handling their own very well IMO

That Up All Night show with Will Arnett and Christina Applegate is the best new show of the season

Put the bananas in the oven at night with the door open. In the morning, go in the kitchen and slowly close the door. Crank oven up to 400. In 15mins or so your problem will be gone.I've done it, it works like a charm
