GM's thread about nothing (26 Viewers)

Watching Masters of the Universe (1987) on Showtime right now. Jesus Christ this movie is ####### terrible. It's even worse than I remember. Still, I can't turn it off.

Mex & Kev, thanks, you both make a solid point.

GM, I got your card today. I just noticed it open on my desk. Countdown to her asking me wtf you are starts......now!!
Whoever had 4 minutes is the winner. Kind of.Mrs. SLB: Do I need to send a Christmas card to that guy, N####?

Me: That would be great.
:2cents: Cosjobs wife gives Cosjobs an armfulof crap every year when he gets my card. I think she even teases him a little for having 'internet friends'. :lmao:

No need to send a card, GB. I just threw it in with the thank you note and thought it might be funny to catch your wife's reaction.
Whatever happened to Cos?

Anyone ever use Rosetta Stone? Thinking about learning Greek
No, but I want to use it. Once the move happens, I'll probably try to find where I stashed a pirated copy of the Spanish one. Greek is on my list if I ever get around to it.
I'm not looking to be fluent, just some basic stuff. We decided on Greece for our honeymoon so I figure it's a good start.I got the Greek package today but don't have a headset, which is necessary, so I didn't get too far. But I'm already lost.

Why did you get kicked out of college?

 I replied to Bob's long post about Cal earlier today. No idea what happend to it.
 Why on earth would THAT be deleted? I know guys like you are on a short leash, but I'm surprised something like that would vanish. We do a lot of 'delete worthy' things in this thread, but your post on this topic wasn't one of them.
I don't even know if it was deleted or not. I'm 99% sure I posted it from work right after last period. Then again I was haaaaammmmered.**By "hammered" I mean jealous of those people who can drink at work.
Do I do wrong movie shtick? Do I?*Don't go taking my asterisk footnote shtick, bud.*No. Indeed I don't.

GD Vincent Jackson on the bench last night
 I never seem to remember Thursday night football exists.
Wasn't that, it's that I have a lot of good WRs that make choosing a starting lineup very difficult each week (Nicks/Jackson/Calvin, Britt). It was easy when 2 of the 4 were hurt/suspended....when they're all healthy, it's a freaking nightmare
Tell me about it... I have Fitzgerald, Vincent Jackson, DeShaun Jackson, Colston, Britt. I can only start 3. Shoulda traded 1 or 2. And I didn't start Vincent either.

SLBob, do you think the medication could be affecting Cal's sleep? Mr. krista4 has ADD and, while the medication helps enormously, it also seriously screws with his ability to sleep.

In any case, gllllll. The teacher's note sounded very kind and caring, so I hope you can work it out.

Also, I apologize for not yet sending a TY note for my gooey butter cake, but I am still selecting which scented stationery to use. :goodposting:

It probably doesn't help but he is really high strung. It all started when he was around 3. We ended up going to a sleep specialist for help. 9-9:30 is actually an improvement although sometimes he is up until 10:30. Until we saw the specialist he would frequently be up until midnight. It was a freaking nightmare. At least now he will sometimes stay in his bed and sings made up songs, usually love ballads. Pretty cute and funny.I was going to say don't worry about sending a TY note but I'll be smelling all of my mail from here on out.

Meh, business has been better. Our GE contract is in jeopardy and thus the jobs of quite a few people, so that pretty much sucks. But we're plugging away. And our Konica Bizhub isn't going anywhere anytime soon. They gave us a helluva deal, sorry.Getting married next July in LaCrosse. FBGs are only invited if they bring large amounts of money as gifts. ;)

I actually intend to send a gift in kind, but since you said you have plenty of good BBQ there, I'm somewhat out of Memphis-y ideas.

I minored in Classical Greek in college. I would recommend learning the Greek alphabet at the very least. Modern Greek is definitely different, but I found that the basics at least got me by when I studied over there - you'll be able to read road signs, etc at the very least. Also, unless you're going to a pretty remote area of Greece, there will be plenty of Engrish-speakers.

someone say something about some homemade chocolate chip cookies around here?I'll take a pm.
:unsure:I mailed some cookies to Bob last Thursday, thinking he would get them early this week. He claims he still hasn't received them but because I sent them via USPS and chose the cheapest way possible, I cannot track them.

 I guess that means I will not be getting any chocolate chip cookies?

SLB>when you receive, please share with the class. I like chocolate chip cookies (almost as much as I like booze and gambling)

I feel kind of bad thinking the UPS driver ate my cookies now.

oh yeah, Mrs. SLB wrecked the car into a pole. Not a Polish guy, an inanimate object. She was sober too. That really hurts.
Seriously, WTF. :lmao: Did I mention I found out Wednesday night Cal might be kicked out of school? Remember how I was kicked out of 1st grade? FML
When you said she hit a pole, I was expecting much worse damage. That looks pretty minorCal>WTF?
:lmao: But it looks like she swirled the #### out of the license plate.

Athens, Mykonos and Santorini. I expect a decent amount of Engrish speakers, like you said. But we want some basic communication skills so we don't get in a cab and driven out behind the Acropolis and "Greek-styled".
Why did you get kicked out of college? :coffee:
Short version - too much booze and pot. I had some messed up priorities and virtually no will power.Long versionHigh school was easy for me. I read the books, took some notes and that was it. I knew the material without having to do much studying, even my AP classes. I took my ACT still buzzed from a party the night before and got a 27. I probably could have broke 30 if I wanted to but I knew that a 27 was good enough. College would be nothing, right? At any rate, I got into the University of Wisconsin. My parents loaded up their van with all my stuff and my brother drove me in his car. We got all my stuff into the dorm and went out for some lunch and to get a better look at the campus. Afterward we said our goodbyes and they were on their way. I was finally on my own.Unbeknownst to them, each of my siblings had bought me 3 cases of beer that my brother had in his trunk. So we smuggled the 9 cases into my dorm after my parents left. Then my brother left and I started unpacking. I opened up a box and what did I find? A bottle of rum and a bottle of vodka that my dad had strategically placed. Oh, and I brought a QP of weed. I guess you could say I didn't have much of a problem meeting people that first night/weekend.After that I was "that guy" in the dorms. It seemed like every night someone I knew was partying and either stopped by my room or had me go with them to a house party or whatever. Eventually I was drinking 5-6 nights a week and smoking daily.Academically, things were good at the beginning. I was going to class, doing homework and being a decent college student. The material was more difficult than I was used to but I was keeping my head above water. But I started missing an early class here and there after partying til 3-4 in the morning. Then it started to snowball. With my AP credits, I had tested into some advanced classes. In hindsight, I probably shouldn't have taken a few of those that first semester as I was in way over my head even before I started missing classes. I tried to teach myself how to study but it just didn't work. I wasn't able to learn the material on my own. I would get frustrated with myself and smoke a bowl or go drinking with friends. The grades were slipping...badly.This trend continued for 2 years. My GPA was 1.6 after my first semester. After the 2nd it was 1.5 and I was put on academic probation. I had no idea the severity of what that meant. I was just happy with a continuous buzz. My 3rd semester, in fall 1998, I started taking things seriously again but the downward spiral was even worse this time and I missed virtually every class for a month or so. I ended up with a Blutarsky 0.0 and was asked not to come back.I still didn't realize the severity of what had just happened. I thought I would be fine taking a year off and reapplying. Not to mention the Badgers were going to the Rose Bowl...woohooo! When my dad dropped me off that first day back in August 1997, he said "If they make a Rose Bowl and you get tickets, I'll take you out there."Sweet deal. I got a pair of tickets and went home one weekend. I was so happy to be able to give that gift to my dad. I gave him the tickets and he wasn't smiling. He sighed and asked how school was going. He already knew. I told him that I wasn't going back the next semester. He tore the tickets up right in front of me and said "I'm not rewarding you with a trip to California after what you've done for the past year and a half." Ooooof. You know that feeling in your stomach/chest when you know you really ####ed up? Then you add in a groin shot? I had that times a brazillion. I finally realized the opportunity that I had and how I took a dump on it. I never would go back, something I regret to this day.I've got no one to blame but myself. If I would have been able to balance the partying with studying, things would have been much better. As much as I screwed the pooch in college, I wouldn't trade those years for anything. I had a blast and maintain many friendships to this day. Wow that's long. Sorry for seriousing up the thread.

Good story. We are taking the boys to see Santa. Will be back later.

Reason #27 Why it's pretty fun to have teenage sons.

18 Y.O Steinson: (reading something online): Hey, 'don't ask, don't tell' was repealed.

Me: That's great. You going to see your recruiter Monday?

Cry me a ####### river. I made a 1400+ on my SAT and ended the first semester with an 0.7 and first year with a 1.2. I got hammered at the golf course instead of showing up for my precalculus final for the first semester since it would have taken a grade of 100+ on the final to get a D. At the end of the first year, the dean of the computer science department told me that I was wasting my time and theirs by being in school at the University of Texas. The hardest part was probably the fact that I was 1992's recipient of the "presidential" scholarship from my dad's company which meant that at the end of every semester, his coworkers would all ask how I was doing. I received a letter from the Ex-Students Association asking me to join before I got my grades the second semester.Made it back to Texas two more times in the 90s, but flunked out after a semester both times because of the good times. Ended up going to most of the universities in central Texas at some point. One of these days, I'll finish the last four classes online somewhere.

I wasn't looking for sympathy. Bob asked so I told the story. :goodposting:

Cry me a ####### river. I made a 1400+ on my SAT and ended the first semester with an 0.7 and first year with a 1.2. I got hammered at the golf course instead of showing up for my precalculus final for the first semester since it would have taken a grade of 100+ on the final to get a D. Yeah. Not sure what the point of the opening line was there. My bad. I was on a roll.

No worries. Sounds like we were both screwups in college :lmao:

I'd like to say I could top you guys, but I can't. :hifive:

I also destroyed the ACT and SAT and went off to UT-Austin from a tiny school, having scarcely cracked a textbook. Signed up for seventeen hours and failed seven. Went on scholastic probation twice and was technically still on it when I messed around and graduated.

Wait for my story. I can't even tell some of it. :homer:

This one was one of my problems. Hometown had 200 people. 700 in my freshman computer science class.

Anyone ever use Rosetta Stone? Thinking about learning Greek
No, but I want to use it. Once the move happens, I'll probably try to find where I stashed a pirated copy of the Spanish one. Greek is on my list if I ever get around to it.
I tried to use this, but you really have to dedicate the time
