Actually, I only 2/3rds read his post but I think I got what he was saying. Jeep, I may eventually be in the same boat as you; what I'd like to know is how you'll handle this, tax-wise. What is your tax-structure in terms of your ownership with the company? Are you a member of an LLC? How is it taxed. etc.?

We're an S-Corp. on the tax concerns. I'm going to be on the first plane to Belize if we get audited.

Hey friend,Early night here. Spent the day traveling yesterday and got back into the swing of things today. Yesterday I spent the day in the passenger seat of the car, directing my BF when to pull over to let me "tinkle" (read: vomit) because I had been up drinking what I presume to be really, really crappy wine the night before. Nice 9 hour drive home.It's always interesting when you're two days out from that kind of hangover. Today was a new day in a new world. Got a lot done, stole some wood from my neighbors' trash and had a nice dinner with my man. Hope things are great for you, sounds like they are.

Perhaps I missed it, but what happened with the boyfriend in the house scenario?

Our next door neighbor put out a trash can full of dead brush and what looks to be rotted wood from a treehouse or something. As I've mentioned before, we have it in mind not to turn on our heat this winter, and this wood looks like it'd burn well in our fireplace.Putting something on the street is fair game, right? Should I feel like a degenerate if I walk over, wheel the trash can to my backyard, dump the wood and return it?

You shouldn't burn treated wood in your fireplace, I don't think. You can get arsenic poisoning, but I think it would take a lot of exposure. I heard a story about a carpenter who kept burning that stuff in the house, exposing his whole family, but I also think they were cooking over it as well, but the whole family had arsenic poisoning and the police originally thought it was an attempted homicide investigation.

I would second this - do not burn the treehouse wood if you think it was treated. If you already have, be careful cleaning out the fireplace. It's not really the smoke but the high concentrations of arsenic in the ashes after you burn.

This is good information. I thought I was being the best GF ever by dumping this wood in our backyard... turns out I might have killed us. We seem to be fine now, but I'll make sure my BF is aware when he cleans out the fireplace tomorrow.

arsenic isn't used to treat lumber anymore (but I'd assume that the treehouse was more than 5 or 6 years old so it probably did have arsenic), but you should still never burn it because there ARE other chemicals used that will be released when burning. Also treated lumber is usually pine like someone else mentioned. You should never burn pine in a fireplace because of the soot build-up that can cause a fire in your chimney/flue

It was fine. My boyfriend is one of the most laid back people I know, so he was understanding about it. Of course, I was pretty upset when I told him so he really had no way to be other than calm. At the end of the day, we really didn't mind the time apart - he and I live and work together - we just would have preferred it to have been our call rather than my father's.My mom actually called a couple of days before Christmas and explained that it was because they really wanted my sister to have a place to sleep on Christmas Eve. My parents only have two guest rooms and my boyfriend and I are not allowed to sleep in the same bed yet. So, that was their reason. Allegedly. He came to their house around 3:00 Christmas Day and spent Christmas night - and we all had a good time. He re-asked Mom and Dad for their blessing (he asked back in February for the first time), so I think that helped things tremendously.
