GM's thread about nothing (12 Viewers)

Now I know how Ham feels, except without the part about being bat#### crazy.
Oh god, can you imagine if he still lived in L.A.?Actually, the fact that even Ham isn't making a big deal about this should be a pretty good indicator of what people outside CA think about it.
I don't even live there anymore, but 35+ years of living there, I know what a disaster this could be. My niece is actually flying up to spend the week up here; she was coming up to visit at some point this summer anyway, but decided to leave tonight to avoid the whole thing.
What is there to "avoid"? Oh, a closed road.

My out of town cousin via FB:

Scene: Meijer store in the frozen food aisleMan with beard, dirty cammo Bass Pro hat, and shirt with cut-off sleeves with American flag on it: "Reduced fat ice cream!?!? Who in the HELL thought of that?"Me (as I turn around): "Sir, you are my hero..."

Yeah, that and the 500,000 cars that travel on it clogging every other street in the city.

Anybody in this thread have Solidworks?
hi
Can you convert three solid works files to .dxf for me? If so PM me your email address. This is some stuff I need to waterjet.
Jesus, dxf? All views saved in the same file?
Ummmm ...I don't even know what the files look like. Really all I need is a flat profile for cutting. I don't need dimensions or anything else. I know material thickness and all that. The guy keeps telling me about the "star" profile. That's mainly what I'm after. If it is too big of a pain in the ###, don't worry about it.
Sent. I saved all views in case the origin wasn't set to the cut plane. WTF are these things, anyway?
Got them. Perfect! Thanks much!Honestly, I don't know what they are. I have to cut 1700 of them on the waterjet out of black UHMW-PE (dense plastic). I tried to get him to tell me, but I guess it's part of some big secret machine that he is building.
I'll buy a chicken dinner for anyone that can catch a jerk while/after reading this conversation.

by my calculations you now owe me three chicken dinners and I'm about to go for another.

KTLA is awesome. These guys base their news on car chases and disasters.

They have a countdown clock, and some reporter is going to be stuck out in the field for the entire weekend.

will there by live coverage of carmageddon? hope it lives up to the hype better than Y2K did.
LA news would interrupt first contact with an alien race to cover a car chase on a freeway. They're going to go live 24 hours if this is anything as bad as they're hyping it to be.

:bow:I'm impressed. I tried a couple times, just because I enjoy challenges, but "dense plastic" was just too much of a mood kill for me.

You've just got to read it out loud as "ultra high molecular weight polyethylene." That'll get you the rest of the way there.

what's the difference between a freeway and highway?
Sort of depends who you're talking to. Some people will tell you that it's state v. federal (state roads are highways; federal roads are interstates), but that's not really the distinction in California.Highways can have intersections, and they're normally 2 lanes. Freeways don't have any intersections, generally higher speed limits, and more lanes. Where 5 and 405 merge, I think it's 12 lanes across.
TWELVE ####### lanes?! If you're not from there or don't know where you're going or where the exit is you're ####ed.

Problem: 9 hours to kill before my flight leaves San Diego

Solution: Went to see Transformers 3 and killed 1/3 of the time. Holy #### that movie is long. The rest of the time will be spent at the Karl Strauss Beer Garden conveniently located just past the security checkpoint.

Intriguing. :strokesbeard:ETA: almost 2 miles on foot might not work out, but thanks for the recommendation.

Guess right by is relative. Seems closer. There's a strip club much closer than that.
