GM's thread about nothing (34 Viewers)

No vacation last year because I learned in May that I'd be shutting down the business I was running in August and decided that with a 1 year old and a pregnant wife who was not working, with the future uncertain I was best off cashing out my vacation rather than taking it. This year, I'm still coming to grips with the fact that around 50%-60% of my compensation is in the form of stock that slowly vests over several years so while it seems I'm making Finless coin on paper, it doesn't feel like it in year 1.I'm taking days here and there and stockpiling the rest for some big vacations down the line.
Ah, that makes sense about last year. As for this year, I know a place you can stay for free in Nicaragua, if you don't mind scorpions.
Considering I have enough miles to go the moon, that wouldn't be a bad option. Snakes are more of a deal killer than creepy crawlies for my wife.

Breakfast most days consists of two Stonyfield Farms Strawberry Probiotic yogurts. I really can't reccommend this enough particularly for the drunks.

We are currently playing a little game at my house where you can't go to the grocery store except for milk. We are trying to eat all of the food in the fridge and deep freezer so we don't have to store it over night during the move. A lot of stuff is gone but I happened to see some Bob Evan's sausage and a tube of biscuits in there last night. I'm kind of looking forward to dinner.

I'll be in the FF league too.

A few people in here who haven't had vacation in a long time. My dentist told me today that next week she's taking her first vacation in ten years. I just don't get this--how does it happen? What do you do with your vacation days at work--just take days off and stay home? I don't intend any of this as sarcastic or mean at all--am actually just fascinated by this idea. If I don't have at least two vacations in advance planned, I go crazy. It's the only thing that gets me through work a lot of times.
Is she self-employed? I know people that own their own businesses and taking vacations is a real ordeal.

Just spitballing here, but how many of you would be interesting in forming a GMTAN Fantasy Football League for 2011? We could keep entry fees relatively low and go with 14 owners? I'm sure we're all in enough leagues, but if there's enough interest, I'd head one up.
If entry fee isn't too steep, I'll play.I gave up FF for a few years until last season, when I jumped in the Pack's dynasty league and lost to Worm in SB, but rediscovered the fun.
Was thinking $50 at most and could be talked into less. Yeah, for lolz more than anything, though we could spice it up a notch. Drafting Joe Bryant as a punter is quality shtick.
probably would be in

No snakes have yet appeared. Perfectly serious, though; it's yours if you can find a time to get away. Fly into Managua and then it's about a 45-minute drive to Granada (would not recommend getting a car but instead arranging for airport transport--then you can walk or take cabs everywhere from there as cabs are ridiculously cheap). Food, etc. is so cheap you'd spend much less on the vacation than you would at home. Lots of cool stuff in the area to do.

leaving work today at 11am (now) then going to see U2 at Heinz Field. Now, if I can just get rid of this stupid headache I've had since I woke up this morning.
 Enjoy. I cant keep up with music like most of these guys do and thus I still love this band.
Show was unbelievable. One of the best concerts I have been too. Band sounded amazing, Bono hasn't lost his voice at all. Just totally amazing, crowd was way into it. A few pix were uploaded to facebook.
I saw U2 @ Three Rivers in the 80s.

 :bag:
Tarrant County Coliseum in 1987 for Joshua Tree Tour. Second night and the opening act, The Bodeans, were unavailable for this show, so we were treated to BB King as the opening Act. That was awesome. Later, BB King and U2 got together for their first live performance of "When Love Comes to Town", which was featured on "Rattle & Hum". One of the best concerts I've ever been too.Not much of a fan now, but they were my favorite for a long long time. My sons are into them now, which is pretty cool. Took them to a U2 laser light show a while back and they loved it.

U2 refused to play in Dallas back then because Bono had climbed some scaffoldings at the old Reunion Arena and was banned from there, so they said they'd never play in Dallas again. Not sure if they still play in Ft. Worth only or not. Anyone?
This is pretty awesome. A teenage me would have given his left ballsack to see that.
You mean the left side of your ball sack right? Or just the left ball? If you have more than one ball sack then I'd think that's freakier K-Zilla's magical outer space hair.
I'll be honest with you: I didn't think about it that much.

I'll play FF this year in your Pancakes league. I'm not very good. I can do $50 if that's what's put out there, just seems a little high for what's likely just a shtick league.

Adults play fantasy football?
They do in the First Annual Pancakes & Potter Fantasy Football League :excited: :excited: :excited:
Ah hell, I was gonna consider coming out of i-retirement for the eclectic bunch in this thread, but after ready that league name, no effing way.very mild interest in returning to hffl though if you can't find another owner.....keep me on the back, back burner
Well, you're option 1A to replace Charv for HFFL....would love to have you back if you want the spot.

How about we figure out the number of people, then figure out the cost for any stoopid website to host it, then figure out how much it'd cost us to cover the site with some leftover for the SB winner?$50 would be my ceiling though.
I'd aim for 14 teams at $50 each which would give us $700 for prize money. Site fees (assuming we use RTsports) would be $70 or so, though I might be able to piggyback this league with one of the other two I run. :shrug:We could do the draft online a week or so before the season and let it roll 24 hours a day for a few days until we're all done. We could use this site to prod people along, though I'll probably email/text people when they are OTC.Again, just an idea, but I'll start collecting potential owners now to keep track.
Very light poster over here but I am intrigued. Haven't played in 2 years and don't really miss it but this could be an interesting league, count me in.

If that's the case, can I be a cheap #### and say we scale back the entry fee? This is for fun and nonsense, right? Why $30 then?

I look at it more like a hyper competitive league with a LOT of good shtick. We won't make it anything too crazy. I was joking about punters. No IDP or anything nuts like that. Maybe a head coach? Always wanted to use that feature, but never had a league that would allow it. I would suggest a more ramped up scoring method...traditional leagues can get a little stodgy.

Potential Owners in the PPPFL:

GM

Krista

Mr. Krista

YSR

Stu

Hawks

FlySack

Stryker

Tanner

St.Louis Bob

Idiot Boxer

Captain Q

Frosty

That's 12 POSSIBLE owners right there...enough to at least consider a league for 2011.

You're not supposed to refrigerate natural PB, right? You just mix it up every time?

Grilled PB and banana sandwiches are good, 'specially with milk.

I'm indifferent. I just threw $50 out there as a starting off point, but would agree to anything, really.

Interesting. How would they earn points? Wins? Point differential in games (positive or negative)?

I am open to any kind of crazy scoring, makes things a helluva lot more schtick friendly.

I know this makes me seem like a wimp, but, I would like to request no auction. I want to participate, but I'm in another league and have a lot going on at the start of the season (moving two states away, starting new job, etc.), and I just won't really be able to do the research needed. Just a request, proceed as usual.

No auction. We'd dice roll for draft position, set it to a serpentine order and begin the draft when Stryker is back from Cuba. I visualize using the draft application from the website (rtsports.com) and just leaving it on 24/7 until we are done. I run a league with a hyper inflated scoring system that has been pretty popular for years. We could adopt it for our purposes and maybe add a head coach for fun.

A buddy and I have a fantasy baseball bet where the loser has to go see a movie (non-XXX) in the theatre of the winner's choice. I'm trailing slightly with a month to go, I would really hate to have to see this ####.

is it a dealbreaker if i can't access RTsports from my work computer? Is their draft app accessible from a phone?

I would say it's pretty important to have access to RTsports from work...Unsure about the phone, but I can check. Rude is looking for a co-owner...

Let me know about the phone. Not interested in co-owning unless it's with 23 other guys in a high stakes league

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: for both posts....I haven't taken my kids to the movie theater since "Horton Hears a Who", which was so bad I just fell asleep and had to be awoken by my oldest son to tell us it was time to go. Retired from kids' movies for good after that. My ex will take them from time to time, so they don't miss out completely, but I'm out. Far too expensive and there's not a chance in hell I could sit through The Smurfs.

You might be a little too serious for this league....

If you are oversubscribed on entrants to the Peanut Butter league, Mr. krista and I could share a team. He's not a very prolific GMTAN poster anyway.

And I don't care about entry fee, etc. Whatever the group decides. I like the coach idea or anything unusual/fun like that.

I've posted in this thread a ridiculous amount of times.
I had a respectable participation level at some point, but took off too many weeks *(months).

Hey, think I'm still in the top 50!
At the risk of being terribly elitist, this (or an alias factored version of this) should be used if there are more than 14 people wanting in the league. It is a GMTAN league after all. Hate for one of the big contributors to miss out because the spots were taken by Jetsfan484, RomoLvr8, and ACForumJrModerator16.

Then again, most of us are pretty lazy. Might end up needing 10 or 12 last minute replacements.
