GM's thread about nothing (41 Viewers)

I'm having a 3/8 life crisis. We are planning to move to SC when we sell our house, and I have no idea what type of employment I want to seek. Have done sales and marketing in the past but not sure that's what I want to do. Feels really gross to be this unambitious.

Taught a class how to freewrite today. Write about anything for 10 minutes, grammar and structure be damned. Most wrote about their lives, college, family, etc.

One guy writes about how rock musicians of color in the 1980s were marginalized by the media as "black rockers," then goes off on a discussion about Bad Brains.

I'm going to like this guy.

Go into advertizing. I always wanted to be didn't/couldn't. Do it for me!

My hipster/professor friends are urging me to make t-shirts based on my Facebook shtick.

Is it crazy that I'm actually considering it?

I've worked as an underground street artist (not a very good one, but there it is). I could design some crap. Hipsters buy t-shirts. I need money. Perfect storm coming?

At the very least I could whip up something ironic with a cat and get Tanner and Bob as customers.

I noticed yesterday that the cat shirt is getting dangerously worn. :sadbanana:

Yeah mine isn't looking so hot. I'm not a big fan of the quality of shirts that threadless.com uses. They need to go Beefy-T.

Lets see, get the bad new out of the way first. My GB's Father died Friday night. Alztheimer's claims another victim. My GB is one of the few people that I went to grade school, high school & college with. :( My bum, hippie, little sister called my parents from the emergency room Saturday night. As previously mentioned, there isn't any way to contact her and my parents haven't heard back from her since then so they are worried sick.

Now the better stuff. There was a fish fry Sunday back in the old hood, this would be two house ago, and no way was I drinking a driving. So a cab one way, without a tip, was $63. From there we met some friends at the casino for dinner. After dinner Mrs. SLB and myself found some new sic game, 6 card poker. We met another couple from Chicago at the table and I don't know what it is about you Chicago folks but I've never met a one of you I didn't like. I had the table going pretty good, possibly due to double Absolute & Red Bulls, and everybody was having a good time. This Chicago guy starts with "I LOVE THIS GUY" stuff directed towards me then starts buying me & Mrs. SLB drinks, Jaegerbombs and I don't remember what else. He had to spend a good $100 on drinks on us. I don't remember the cab ride home. I do however remember walking in the door, ripping Mrs. SLB's clothes off and what not......when she says I doubt you are getting a hard on before I or both of us pass out. She was right. :kicksrock:

That should have been part of the bad news section.

We were at one of the casinos here. It's illegal for them to give away free drinks.

The best t-shirts I've come across are those J-Crew tees. They fit perfectly and are comfortable as hell. They also cost $20-25 a pop, so printing on them is out.

Moving back home? IIRC you are from upstate? If not, and you end up in the low country, you should think about real estate. At least in Beaufort-Edisto-Hilton Head-Kiawah, e.g., the upscale golf areas, they weathered the storm pretty well. Always going to be demand for quality second home/retirement developments.

Rochelle is my ex-wife's doppelganger. What is really weirdish is they're from the same hometown (Tianjin) and went to the same Uni.

There's only one thing to do now: file her away for some hot imaginary lesbo scenes with the ex-wife. You know you were all thinking this too.

Greetings from Juneau. The sun was out for 5 minutes so far today. Love the fact that football starts wayyyy early up here. The U / Maryland game started at 4 pm local time. Freakin sweet!!! I could get used to this. I will post again from Scagway.

Yep, Greenville. It's home and I have a ton of networking contacts. I just feel like, "hey, I'm looking for a job and I am pretty smart, completely trainable and will work hard but I don't really know what I want to do... just looking for 35-50 hours a week with benefits" isn't my best schpeel. Mr. YSR will also be looking, but he could sell black ice to shuke, so I'm not too concerned about him.

I have a furniture job going on in Greenville that has had ongoing problems for the last month. I'll give you a hundred bucks to kick this gal in the groin.

Speaking of hipsters, I went to dinner at some friends of my sister's on Friday. They moved our here some time ago from NYC and my sister was in town for a conference and all work/used to work in Publishing.. While there are some elements of hipsterdom that I enjoy from time to time, the bourgeoisie intellectual, yet "grounded" (not really), I can eat or listen to somethign stranger than you can mentality can be exhausting. At one point a strange vegan chick came and started talking to two of them in a weird one way Q&A. Turns out they have a "band" (lots of screeching and disharmonic, amorphous noise apparently) and she was doing some kind of interview for some hipster rag.

That said, the food was fantastic (Organic beet and goat cheese homemade fresh raviolis), as was the weed and most of the conversation.

This is NOT a rendering.

Taken this morning.
Little help for those of us not in NYC?
Sorry, forget that's a local story few outside of lower Manhattan are following. They have been periodically testing the water of the reflecting pool memorial; it's somewhat rare to go by or be looking at it when the water is on. Monday it will be turned on for reals.
Oh, awesome. For a moment there I thought that was the foundation for something and Hurricane Katrina or whatever you people had flooded it.

Don't forget about that 4 second earthquake that almost toppled the skyline.
