GM's thread about nothing (33 Viewers)

So, it seems people are angry about a Moneyball movie. Shark move is to see 50/50?
I was actually looking forward to renting that one day...is it getting horrible reviews?
No. TRE is just an old-timey curmudgeon who hates statistics and computers and math and believes the only thing that matters is a player's hustle and heart and grittiness.
This is 900% (statistic) incorrect. I love sabermetrics. I just don't see why we make a movie about a GM who was largely unsuccessful using them.
You realize the A's annual budget is worth about the same as Derek Jeter's condo, right? Thankfully, Oakland could never afford to give Joe Mauer a zillion dollars over 8 years.
Ouch, GB. Ouch. And I really don't think you can call Beane unsuccessful. Based on the restrictions he was under I think he did pretty well.
Should we have a Marlins movie before an A's movie?
No because they bought two championships and immediately sold off all the expensive parts. Not as underdoggy, although more effective.

So let's make a movie about their non-success?
Is the movie about one team, or the beginning of a "movement", for lack of a better word? Lots of teams are :nerd: -oriented now, including the two-time World Series champion Boston Red Sox. The Rays have done even a better job than the A's in a tougher division. Some of their principles are different (trying to hit home runs in the draft, which I agree with), but they look at the game quantitatively instead of how nice Joe Mauer's hair looks.Playoffs are a huge crapshoot anyways. Even you know this.

lots of people from this thread met in Vegas this weekend. Not really much else to say about that.
A few people gave Dodds a bunch of #### about the posting privileges for some of the people on this board. One of those people with less than ideal posting privileges at the time happened to be there. Coincidentally, and completely coincidentally at that, said posting privileges were scheduled to return in September.

Sorry guys, you're right...movie looks great.
Probably not. Sorkin is the worst.
Well, instead of making an executive decision on behalf of the both of us and choosing to go see sweet and smiley Joseph Gordon-Levitt, I made the mistake of showing both trailers to Mr. YSR.Sports movie blinders win every time.
In all honesty Moneyball looks like a better movie regardless of whether the Oakland As suck or not.

:lmao: , yes, typically. But I actually kind of loathe BP, Jonah Hill and Philip Seymour Hoffman. I know that this will likely make me unpopular in the FFA, but I can't help it.

Looks nice! Can you get the domain name www.albertoaks.com?

There's not description or overview of what this exactly is?

I would build a contact form/survey to gather info instead of having them just email you.

:2cents:
You seem to dispense this advice a lot...for those of us just new to the website game, can you explain what this is in terms we can understand and elaborate on how/why it's better than emailing for info? Thanks and I'll hang up and listen.

For one, spammers' web crawlers are probably going to find a posted email and inundate you with spam.Secondly, a web form allows you to dictate the information they must send you, giving you better data as to who is looking at your site and inquiring as well as cutting down on endless back and forth because the submitter forgot to include key information.

He also thinks Verlander is not an MVP candidate...and probably also really likes super hero movies.
Candidate sure, not the MVP though. Best pitcher in baseball? Yes.Hate superhero movies.
MVP in my estimation. 3 more wins the next guy behind him. Best WHIP, ERA and BAA in the AL and he leads the league in Strike Outs.Oh, and his team is 11.5 games in first, will coast into the playoffs and absent him on the roster, is not any of those things I just mentioned.

Pretty cut and dry, IMO.

Can you show me an example? Also, I already have spammers. I've grown to love them.

your two cents are always welcome.I own the domain.

Site is not really up yet. I mean, its up, but its not ready for action. I need to get it there within a week, when I begin some soft marketing. And yes, I will have a contact form and a phone number.

I could but I think it's more general than that. At the least don't you want to know the name and contact info of anyone contacting you? Maybe you also want to know how they found you? What industry they are in? What region they are in? What their annual income is? etc.

Nah, not really. At this point, I'd be willing to take money from terrorists, outlaws and the gays.

Awesome. I wish we could have had that cornhole now. I would have liked to pass out in that foyer.

Dodds is good people.

I've been wanting to post this photo, but got tired of waiting for the right time (ideally in response to a Dentist post) so posted it in what has turned out to be a boring Dentist thread instead.

I feel like it went wasted, so I'm posting it here.

Or maybe, like my ability to make trade offers in FF, my gauge for whether this was even worth it is waaaaaay off.

We got an offer on the house!!!!!!

Yeah!!!

Too bad that apparently this gal thinks this house is a foreclosure and located in Beirut. Which incidently would be less violent and have better schools. She was only pre-approved for a max $150k loan and that is her offer. Oh and she still expects free carpeting ( a good 6k if I didn't have a connection) and the few things that are slightly askew fixed.

I was going to make her wait until tomorrow and come back at $175k unless one of you has a better idea.

I'm kind of in GM's boat on this. Other than the spammers- I want to be easily contacted. Sure, I'd like to know a bunch of stuff about them, but I know that a large chunk of people just walk away when you start asking a lot of questions. On the other hand, I'd sure like to have a way to collect all that info if they are willing to provide it.

Thirded but it has to be the right amount of money. Or at least drugs I can easily sell or a tip on a fixed horse race or something.

Going to my first college football game in years this weekend when 'cuse visits USC. I'm already tingling with excitement. Anticipating plenty of mistakes to happen in the stands.
