GM's thread about nothing (35 Viewers)

I'm at my daughter's gymnastics class right now and while she's in with 5 or 6 year olds, there are groups practicing right up through high school. I'm pretty sure that Homer's head would explode if he saw some of the things going on here right now

I know that my posts are about as frequent as a C. Everett Koop bowel movement, but do not fear if you don’t see me lurking in this thread over the next couple of days. Heading back to the States. I would be more excited, but I still don’t know when I will be “home” home. I decided to treat myself the first few days that I am back and will be staying just outside of the Gaslamp Quarter in San Diego. Any food recommendations? Mexican/Seafood/Steakhouse???…craving all three.

Thanksgiving for thirty is at our house this year, hoping to make my own party.

What's the protocol when are you traveling and sharing a hotel room with a co-worker?Do you share the bar of soap with them? Are you responsible for removing any pubes or hair from the soap when you are finished??
Find a job that's not so cheap that they make adults share a room on a trip.
Seriously?
I've never had to share a room with a co-worker on dozens or maybe even hundreds of business trips.
Yeah, that's ridiculous.
:goodposting: Have never heard of this. Seems extremely strange, and there's no way I'd do it.

The PAIA held an 'Educational Event' last night for about 100 people. The topic du jour was "Impact Investing: Defining what Matters". As a newly elected board member, my job was to procure the wine/beer. I bought 2.5 cases of beer and a case of wine. The event started at 4:30pm and was over by 7pm. Not one beer leftover and only a little bit of red wine. First time that's ever happened, I'm told. Usually, there is beer/wine left over which is consumed at the next board meeting, but not the case this go around. Also, I might have overserved myself a little and made an inappropriate remark to the lone female board member over dinner.
"You've got nice cans, and I'd like to treat them like SLB treats a Hamms" inappropriate or "Whoa, did you smell that? Sorry. I didn't even know it was waiting to come out. Don't eat the shrimp" inappropriate?
We were all walking out of the restaurant, laughing and joking, mulling over the possibility of continuing the party somewhere else. The gal - we'll call her Geri - said she was just going to head home, to which I replied "Awesome, see you there! :excited: " An eerie silence fell upon us before she broke it with a "Uh, no". I expect the board to relieve me of my duties today.
:lmao:Also, sorry in advance for the hippling, catching up after 3 days

So last night I had a few drinks with family, then went out on the town. My buddy's girlfriend was out and she kept trying to push her friend on me, whom I am not interested in. (Much) later on she and I were texting, mostly me saying stop trying to make a girlfriend out of your slutty BFF. She texted me something about wanting her and her boyfriend (my buddy) to be able to grow old with me and my wife, so she needed to find me a wife. I found that somewhat creepy, so I forwarded the text to YSR for confirmation of the level of creepiness.

Except I didn't forward it to YSR, I forwarded it to a woman I used to work with like 10 years ago who has a similar first name as YSR. She replied at 6am "why are you texting me in the middle of the night about a wife?"

Anyhow, I think I should be dropping my phone in a glass of wine every couple of years to prevent this from happening again.

FYI we're going to Vegas next September & possibly next June.
"Awesome, see you there! :excited: "

:mellow:So, screw you guys?
I wish I knew what this was about.
I thought maybe we could get that GMTAN party/cornhole thing going but it was met with scorn. Not to be confused with Thorn.
I couldn't have been more sincere. I've been in Vegas 3 of the last 4 years opening weekend of the NFL season. Could be this year again. Don't know for certain yet. If that's when you're there, "Awesome, see you there :excited: "

I wished Frost a happy birthday on facebook. :bowtie:Also, I'd share a motel room with Tre. We both seem to hail from the school where the motel bath is really nothing more than a cooler for ice and beer.
On a road trip one time we had a huge jacuzzi tub and a separate shower. We had a plan that night to get some chicks in the tub so we put all the beer/ice in the separate shower. The next morning everyone was too hungover to take the beer out so each one of us showered (at separate times mind you) "on top of the beer/ice" and then we proceeded to ice it down again and drink it that night. Hopefully nobody made crockpot chicken in there.P.S. We didn't get any chicks in the jacuzzi, but that night my brother was drunkenly walking down the hall when he heard some girls laughing in a room with an open hotel room door. He walked in and there were 2 naked chicks and one dude messing around. He took a few pictures (pre-digital camera) and left.

Wait a second, you have YSR's real name in your contacts on your phone? I always put in everyone's FBG name, for some reason I find it funny when I get a text and see that it's from "Homer" or "Frosty" or "Thorn" or "Joe Bryant". Interesting.

My college roommate of all four years there and good friend's sister just died of cancer. I knew it was upcoming but I found out last night via facebook. The wake is today in North Carolina (obviously I cannot make it). I don't see him much anymore due to living halfway across the country and we probably only talk a few times a year, but it's one of those friendships where when we do it's like nothing has changed. I'd still consider him a close friend and I think he would consider me the same. I'm supposed to be in his wedding next years. I've never had something this tough happen to a good buddy of mine in the past. I texted him late last night and called him this morning. I left a voicemail offering condolensces and prayers and told him if he wanted to call back cool or if there was a fund or charity or something i could donate to or help in any other way to let me know. However, I have no idea what the protocol is here. Is there anything else I should/can be doing here? If so, I would like to do it - I just don't know if there's a point of doing too much.
Sorry to hear. I think you did the right thing. You should probably also send some flowers or a card to the family...and just make sure you call your buddy in the coming weeks to give him someone else to talk to.

Just called my old neighbor that works close to our new house to see if he wanted to come over for some cocktails. How he does the commute everyday is hard to fathom. Anyhow:Me: Hey, what's up? Are you getting off work soon?ON: Got off early today for Vet's Day.Me: Oh.ON: Why, are you inviting me over?Me: Well, yeah, but it's almost 9 and you're like 40 miles away....ON: We'll come over and spend the night.ME:  Cool!ON: Let me check with my wife, I'll call you right back.*fiveminutesgoesby:ON: Alright, we're leaving now. Do we need to bring some appetizers?Me: If you're hungry, that would be a good idea. :lol:ON: :lmao: Well, we'll be there soon. My wife said she'e never slept in the same house as white people so she wants to check it out.Me: I'll wake you for the cross burning.
So he just invited himself and wife to sleep over? I don't even think I would do that to my best friend.

Yes but there is no rhyme or reason to it. YSR, SLB, GM and K4 are in there with real names. Everyone else is username except strykrpjs. He's under his real first name but last name "Wisconsin".

Wonder if they still do it (or whether they really ever did to the extent these people think). One of our lawyers came from there about a year ago, too. I'll see what these guys say.ETA: Wal-Mart is a notoriously terrible place to work, by the way, at least in terms of "corporate", so perhaps not surprising.

I've watched videos on Wal Mart's supply chain before and they made note on how they did this.

I just e-mailed our lawyer to see if they're still doing it (figured maybe I wouldn't send the CEO an e-mail on a Saturday about it). Like I said, shouldn't be surprised I guess. It's one of those places that people know is awful to work except to get it on your resume if you're in consumer goods, and of course they're also notorious for squeezing every last penny out of suppliers (which I experienced directly at my last job).

yeah, the video we watched was insane. Consistent demand of something link 10% of wholesale price reduction every single year.

Yeah, it's amazing. But they have the purchasing power to get away with it. Here's the response from our lawyer who came from there about a year ago: "It was true and continues to be true...except for the real senior guys and International. No matter where I traveled with the President of Sam's Club we were 2 to a room. But on regular business I always got my own. You wouldn't believe the weird complaints we got about this policy and bizarre things people would do!"

Ugh, just got back from an eye appt where they dilated the pupils. I guess I need to sit in my darkened house, drink beer and watch CFB.

Should this be in the drunk thread? Cause Im still pretty drunk. Really drunk actually. Contemplating having another beer...pretty sure I should have my head examined.

Mexican/Seafood/Steakhouse???…craving all three.Thanksgiving for thirty is at our house this year, hoping to make my own party.
Welcome back and safe travels!

You're welcome. Also, a belated Happy Veterans Day to you and thank you for your service.
