Last night, the Trailblazers handed out post cards and pens to all fans who entered the arena. On one side was a dedication of thanks to our Military Servicemen and Women and on the back it was blank, save for an address to some sort of Military headquarters in Maryland. We were encouraged to write a note of thanks to our soldiers, which I thought was a marvelous idea and was really happy to see so many heads down at the stadium, writing notes and dropping them off for delivery. I took some time with mine and tought about what I wanted to say and began to scribble in my horrendous chicken scratch. I started off by thanking them for their service and said I was at the Blazers game and it was because of the hard work and dedication of partriots like them that a man like me can enjoy freedom and blah blah blah. At the end, I included my email address and said if anybody who reads this is a Blazers fan and will write back to me, I have a pair of tickets to give away to a game later this season. 90% of me thinks this post card will get lost in the suffle and nobody will ever send me an email. But 10% of me really hopes one of our troops reads this, contacts me and gets to enjoy a game in Portland. I wonder if anything will ever come of this. I sure hope so.
