GM's thread about nothing (42 Viewers)

I have had my iPhone for 2 years now. Have spent the last week playing with an iPad2 that was collecting dust at my parents.

I am really close to pledging my full allegiance to Apple and pray at the altar of Steve Jobs.

Or just go out and spend too much for a Macbook Pro.
Steve Jobs was a colossal asssss to all people and could be ruthless and cold...but he also advocates that each and every one of us try LSD at some point and attributes his "vision" to the use of acid. I'm down wif that. In a world where powerful and important people are typically too afraid to address such matters, let alone admit to them, I admire that greatly. Still only have an old 4 GB iPod with no plans of ever upgrading to anything more, but big fan of the acid endorsement. ETA: I'm going to use spell check from now on. Furley's thread was hurtful.
Show me a captain of industry that wasn't a total bonerface to a lot of people along the way and I'll show you...well I'm not sure what I'll show you but you get it.

I do disagree that Jobs was a ####, I'm just saying that if you put me into solitary confinement with nothing but bread, water, Apple products and WiFi, I probably don't complain much. The iPad has replaced the TV and the laptop for my nightly content consumption.
Very cool products, no doubt about it. I don't judge him for being a jerk; as Tanner said, the bulk of these industry giants were cut from the same cloth. Goes with the territory. I just want legal LSD is all.

I have my kids this weekend.Yet there is a family Birthday party Saturday afternoon, on their mom's side of the family, so I have to drop them back off at her house after lunch and pick them back up after they return. And before lunch on Saturday? Picking up garbage on the side of the road with other Cub Scouts.Yes, I will be drinking tonight. GMTAN shots later on?
:in:

Just finished up presenting a 127 page presentation to 25 people for an hour and a half that had me working on it at one point 25 of 37 hours in my life. Taking tomorrow off. Yes, I will be drinking tonight.

I'd be interested in hearing your presentation, would you care to share with this thread?Maybe a conference call later?

Shoot, MexiJoe, check in here when you can, GB. :(

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (Reuters) - Two members of the U.S. Coast Guard were found shot to death at an air base on Kodiak Island in Alaska on Thursday, and the installation was placed on a security alert, the Coast Guard said. The two were found dead at a communications facility at the Coast Guard Base Support Unit Kodiak, and authorities were looking for a potential suspect who might be at large, according to a Coast Guard statement.Because circumstances of the shooting were not immediately clear, the Coast Guard said the base, located about 250 miles southwest of Anchorage, was placed on lockdown as a precaution, as were nearby schools in the area."Since we don't have all the details, we strongly advise that all Kodiak residents remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to local law enforcement officials," Coast Guard Captain Jesse Moore, the commanding officer of the base, said in the statement.

Zack is getting the axe as I type, so I am definitely in for the GMTAN drinkfest tonight.

Perhaps at least he can take solace that he is not losing his job by being shot three times in the face.

:(What was the story with that, if you don't mind sharing. If you do, I'll understand. Cannot imagine what that is like. (the shooting, not the firing, though feel free to elaborate on both after some Cockburns Spritzers).

I don't really do much good for society at large and I'm a pretty useless human, but once in a while I try to donate blood or help out where I can.

If you are so inclined, check out Tipsey's thread and consider registering to help. I did. Took me about 7 minutes. Considering how strongly we all want to donkey punch Cancer and whizz on its much deserved grave, perhaps we can help combat it in some small way.

Just had a phone call that started like this:

"Hi, this is Bogart, and well, we bought a casket from you last week for my Dad.

Yes, that one.

Well, we didn't use it. Nothing against you and your company, but it was not what we expected."

Pretty much downhill from there. You really don't get refunds on custom caskets. They are going to donate it to a veteran's organization (it has an eagle and American flag on it) which is all we really wanted, but I still was going to try and get something back if possible.

Cool TA Creds> I'm showing Louis C.K. in my class today.

The class is Children's Lit. Yes, I'm going to make it work. That's what cool TAs do.

What was wrong with it?

You can't get wifi in those things.

No casket for me. Burn me up and scatter me around some race tracks (horse, not red neck), some hiking trails and some ashtrays at some low brow strip clubs, presuming ash trays still exist in 2028.

I fixed a couple of things that other people couldn't figure out and brought in $43K. In for shots later.

It was the wrong color, at least not the color we expected. And the craftsmanship was subpar for what was spent. My mom did all the research with her brother, and that was a mistake. I should have been more involved. Instead at the last minute, just bought a second casket. It shouldn't matter, it's a box that is going to be buried, never to be seen again, but it was a big deal to my Mom, so a nicer one was bought.

As best I can piece together from friends who witnessed it, friends who knew the victim, and the security guys in my building:Killer dude (husband of murder victim) was charged in 2010 with kidnapping and attempted rape. Per his statement to police, abducted a 15-year-old girl, took her to his (their) detached garage, tied her up, taped her mouth and blindfolded her in order to "see if it would get her aroused", then attempted to rape her and, when that didn't work, pleasured himself in front of her. Allowed her to leave on promise that she not tell anyone. He was a real peach, eh?His wife (my coworker, Laura) did not immediately leave him but did after a few months. They were separated but not yet divorced. Had started to get her life together and move on, including getting a permanent job with us in November, after temping with us for about a year. She worked in the accounts receivable department of one of our business units. He was 51 and she was 43. Husband didn't take well to the idea that she was moving on and had made threats, but Laura didn't seek a restraining order. She did express concerns to coworkers. The morning of the murder Laura showed up at the office just after 7. Memphis seems to be a very early-morning place, and we have 1500 employees just in this particular location in Memphis, so a lot of other people were around at this time. Murderer called their son just before this and told him he was going to do something bad. Knew when Laura would show up at work and waited for her in the parking lot by the door where she would enter. For a while, waved a gun around and engaged in a shouting confrontation. At this point many other people were in the area and ran for cover and started making 911 calls. Laura tried to get away from him but couldn't. He shot her five times, including three times in the head. Other shots were also fired, but it's unclear if he was trying to shoot anyone else or just firing aimlessly. But he did continue to shoot after she was quite clearly dead. Then, he laid down on top of her and shot himself in the head. We're told for investigative reasons the police were not even allowed to cover the bodies until the investigation was complete. As a result, the bodies remained in plain sight in the bright sun for over three hours. As I mentioned, this was directly outside the window of one of my friends. He's a very calm guy but expressed how gruesome the scene was. The police secured the immediate area, but didn't clear out the building or even that side of it, so it was just a bizarre scene. We continue to have a large number of grief counselors on the premises and I understand they've been heavily utilized. I can't even imagine the situation of those who were in apparent immediate danger themselves, those who witnessed this or saw the aftermath, and those who were her friends. It's been a bit traumatic for me and I don't even have those connections. Example: we had a fire alarm go off yesterday around 6 p.m., and it freaked me out a little when normally it would be nothing. Security in our building is much more evident, which seems a little after-the-fact. I was told by one of our security guys it's because of concerns over copycats. I've never heard of a copycat murder-suicide but ok, I'm not complaining.I also feel for the people who were trying to reach their loved ones that day. The news got out quickly, but it was several hours before names were released, so you have thousands of people desperately trying to ensure it was not their family and friends.Lots of people talking about the fragility of life. This was a perfectly beautiful, seemingly normal, spring day, and then everything completely changed for a lot of people and families.

In other news, things with Zacque went as well as could be expected, under the circumstances. But this week can still go eff itself.

God my timing is horrible. Sorry K4. Wasn't trying to make light of your situation. Was just trying to lighten he mood a bit.
