GM's thread about nothing (29 Viewers)

Anybody got a relatively easy but delicious recipe for an egg casserole? I'm not looking to replicate the works of Picaso here, just something tasty and idiot proof. TIA.
If you're referring to what I think you're referring to, I doubt there's one that's not relatively easy. You just put stuff in the pan and cook it.
:goodposting: Hard to screw up an egg bake. At the same time, it's hard to make a wonderful egg bake.

My fav go-to is simple.Buy a pilsbury dough sheet. It's the same thing as a roll of crescent rolls. You can use that, also.Spread it out into a deep baking sheet. Bake it at 350 for about 6-7 minutes just to firm it up.Beat 8 large eggs.Put anything you want on the dough. Any normal toppings you want. Pour the eggs over top and bake for 20 minutes. In the last 7 or 8 minutes, cover the top with shredded cheese and voila!!

Yeah, it's not a world beater, but I need something filling that the boys will eat. I've made one before, but it has been years. Found as simple recipe that I'll kick up a notch or two in an attempt to make a wonderful egg.....bake? You guys don't do 'casseroles' in Minnesota? You know what makes even the most ordinary dishes wonderful? My link

Casserole means more than just eggs in Minnesotese. Not sure about elsewhere. Sorry if my backwoods terminology is confusing.

Oh, I'm using some nice sausage and a Treload of cheese. Maybe some bits of crumbled up bacon. And raisins.

Bacon in egg casseroles is always disapointing. If you want to do bacon sprinkle (drown) some on the top at the end. It just gets mushy if you put it in the casserole itself. Ham or sausage is the way to go. Choriso is good if you want to go spicy.

 Why on earth would you put raisins in it?

I got some catching up to do.....recap?
Thanks for asking...I finally watched "Cars 2" over the weekend with Little 'Zooks. Not as good as the first one, but not bad. I had the day off yesterday and spent a chunk of time at the McDonald's playland (Hi Homer) and flirted with a single-mom who looked like she came right off the set of Jersey Shore, her name was Tricia. Went to get an oil change and got talked into my very important 15,000 mile checkup which combined with the oil change somehow cost $198 (I know nothing about cars and if the guy told me I had to get some special device that prevents unicorns from humping my tail pipe I'd probably go along with it) Went to bed early after masturbating to Frosty's wife. Got up early today but lacking any motivation to be productive today. I had steak for lunch which was nice. Oh and Shuke's gout is getting worse.Hope all is well with you.

We usually do a sausage egg casserole Christmas morning. Mix it up Christmas Eve, refrigerate and let the bread at the bottom it soak up all the browned sausage goodness.http://www.cooks.com/rec/doc/0,195,133187-241193,00.html
That looks great. Basically what I'm going to do, only the kids and my dad (who does not eat anything green or really anything grown out of the ground save for potatoes) will balk if I put peppers in there. And if there is one thing that's a deal breaker for me in anything, it is mushrooms. I find them to be the dingleberry of satan.

So tonight my five year old son will be in a tap dance recital. He's been taking classes since February, and he's the best in his class. He's also the only boy.

Not that there is anything wrong with that. I did wonder a bit though. He's only five, but he's totally disinterested in soccer, and only mildly interested in tee-ball. He loves tap dancing though.

Then last night at dinner he said "Daddy, I'm going to be dancing tomorrow on the stage. I'm the only boy with a whole bunch of really pretty girls. And that August (one of the girls) keeps kissing me!" Then he giggled and smiled. I thought, Wow, my son is a genius. Then a second later, crap, I'm going to be a grandfather in my forties.

What do you think? Give the condom talk when he's turns 7?
LOL, my son is seven and the only boy in his Hip-Hop class at his school (25 girls or so). Granted it's hip-hop and not tap and he loves sports rather than loathes them, but I get where you're coming from.
Yea, but if you're the only guy in a hip hop class, the 25 girls are your hos. Speaking of this. What exactly is a hip hop class? They have classes on this now? :lmao:

Do the kids listen to a lot of N.W.A.? Wu Tang? Tupac?

Don't get me wrong - it's a great art form. But a class?
Actually I don't even know if that's the actual name of the class, it's just what he calls it. And it's not technically a class, it's an "after-school activity."Aw hell, I'm going to have to ask him if he likes Derek Jeter now, right?

:lmao:That reminds me of the King of the Hill episode where Bobby joins the wrestling team.Hank: "Wrestling's a fine sport. Hell, it's an Olympic sport. Hold on a minute. This is being run by the school, right, and not by some guy with a camcorder in the back of his van?"

Mmmm...lunch steak.

never heard of an egg bake, but my wife makes something called breakfast casserole that sounds similar. some sort of bread/biscuit as the bottom, load it up with eggs and bacon, bake it for a while, cover it with shredded cheddar and brown it.

Yeah that's pretty much it. Every Friday we have 'breakfast day' in the teachers' lounge. We rotate bringing in stuff. This egg casserole/breakfast bake is a staple. Nobody makes it the same but it's pretty bad no matter what. How hard is it to pick up a couple of dozen doughnuts?

No idea what an egg casserole is. Sounds pretty unappetizing.
Its for people too unskilled to make scrambled eggs
Yeah.GM> Why not a nice omelette bar? Let the ladies pick the toppings and whip something up? Have a bunch of toppings to choose from (veggies, meats, cheese). Get some fruit, meats, etc to add on the side.Have the kids makes some fresh squeezed juice or something...blend a smoothie?

I like this. Altho omelettes can be tricky. Money trick is to do the omelette in a pan as usual, but rather than trying to fold it over and making a mess of it, put some shredded cheese on top and stick it on the oven until the cheese melts and call it a fritatta. Also, look in the frozen foods at the grocery store for raw frozen biscuits. They are unbelievably good, especially considering how butt simple they are. Serve them with butter and fig preserves. With the fritattas and fresh squeezed juice from the boys = $$$

I know you guys were wondering but I can't stand egg casserole.
I think that's 75% of America.
add raisins and its at least 98.8%
Never seen it with raisins. I think this is just some typical GM shtick like they have a lot of butters at Rite Aid.
Obviously, I'm not going to add raisins. Just a bad joke carried on from my Cat/Rick shtick. But I'll be damned if I'm going to sit here and let you just bad mouth Rite Aid like this. What is wrong with their butter selection? It's excellent.

Because my mom likes it? Because I need something easy and ready to go for the kids by 10am at the latest due to double header baseball and flag football after that? Becauase I suck making Omlettes? Because I'll be at my folks' house, so no homefield advantage? Because my dad is even worse in the kitchen than I am? Lotta reasons here....Here's the menu thus far:- Breakfast Casserole, Jax Bill style, sans veggies + extra sharp cheddar that would make Shuke do the moonwalk.- Granite Steps Country Blueberry Coffee Cake (Paula Deen :bag: )- Pineapple Cheese Bread- Home Fried potatoes- A wide assortment of sausage and bacon- Fresh fruit - Mimosas- Bloody MariesNow, I realize that lacks a real headliner...nothing that ooohs and ahhhhs, so, I will be attempting something a little difficult, incorporating Oregon's finest local ingredient - Salmon. My mother hates salmon, but my wife and sister love it, thus, I will be trying to make a Salmon/Cream Cheese Omlette for them. Considering I suck at the Omlette, this will be tough. All recipes I see call for smoked salmon. My wife does not care for that. Why can't I use blackened salmon instead? How am I doing so far? We have to be done by 11am at the latest to make it to our games. I'll be doing a lot of the work the night before at home. I am not a chef. I suck with even the simplest of tasks. So if you have suggestions, please...remember who you are dealing with here!*I'm going to have my sons help me with the sweet items the night before, so there will be some involvement from the kids in this. Lord help me here...the blind leading the blind.

my wife makes great eggs, but sometimes she changes it up a bit by making a casserole.
I like sausage egg and cheese all melted up and blended together with some nice breaded underside. Not sure what's wrong with it. I like eggs other ways too, but once a year or so, nothing wrong with an egg casserole.

Damn GM, you are already the best Dad in this thread, trying to be the best husband as well?? That is just plain selfish towards the rest of the males here.

Where do you get your butter, from a 'grocery store'? Sucker!

My worry with the salmon is that when it is overcooked, salmon gets very fishy

Bogart, please. I'm not even sure my mother will agree to miss church for this, so all I've typed might very well be for naught. And you might want to ask my 7 year old what he thinks of dad this morning after I gave him the Chinese Tiger treatment for not finishing a library book he promised he would finish. :bag:
