GM's thread about nothing (30 Viewers)

had some amazing apple pie moonshine tonight. Also, if you need a recipe for some basting for grilled shrimp (or if you actually chargrill your own oysters):The Sauce (for 1 lb of shrimp or 1 dozen oysters)1 Stick Unsalted Butter, very soft1 Pinch Kosher Salt1 tsp Freshly Ground Black Pepper1 Tbsp Minced Garlic4 Tbsp Pecorino Romano1 pinch Cayenne1 pinch White Pepper1 Spritz Lemon Juice1 tsp Minced Italian ParsleyWhisk together all ingredients.Shrimp: thrown on grill on skewers and baste both sides...grill til slightly blackenedOysters: Shuck and get grill super hot (+450)...let oysters cook in own juices until they bubble...then throw on a dollop of the sauce...cook til bubbling, then take off grill, eat, then have an orgasm
In my experience, if you put a stick of butter on a pound of anything, its gonna rock.

Wife is out at bar with a bunch of girls from the neighborhood. When she left I told her to be ready when she got home. She said "no." As the night has worn on, texts have not included "no" but haven't been very fun either. She should be home within the hour and I'm putting chances of success at about 20%.

Oh, and drinking Old Crow and Coke Zero. That is all.

4 interviews over wedn. to fri. 1 offer in already from a company that knows me. I suspect I'll have something signed by Friday afternoon.
Update: offer no. 1 signed. Better salary, benefits, bonus, and bigger company. I can start slow, do my 50, get a nice comp bank built up, and the opportunity to go back taking on more is there, should I want it.Starting Monday.

Very nice.

Thanks. I could've held out for more and was tempted. I had to remind myself I wanted less work though, not just falling back on the same trap. Had an offer for 50% more bonus potential but passed.

At the airport for my flight back from my buddy's bachelor party weekend. There was a small line in front of me in security (maybe 30 people) and the douchbag behind me has the audacity to ask the security people if there is a first class line. They opened up a first class line for him and he got to skip ahead of us all. As luck would have it, his bag had to be rescanned and he ended up clearing security around the same time as me.

It's been a long but fun weekend. Played golf for the first time in my life. Got iced for the first time in my life (didn't know people still did that). I didn't go to bed last night and I have gotten about 6 hours of sleep in the past 48 hours. :banned: :banned: :banned:

So im on a bus to foxwoods with the blue hairs from the eagles club. Anyone old enough to remember the cheers episode when they rent the back room to the ladies rotary book club? They figure it will be a quiet group and a nice way to make money. Then it turns out they are doing whiskey shots and shouting for sam and woody to strip for each other.

Its 8 am and i think im the only one still on my first drink. Weve played three rounds of pull tickets. And a couple just loudly figured out that they used to have sex back in the early 80s. Oh and their spouses are on the bus.

Sorry, man. In your honor I'm not going to have sex with my wife.

Survived the reunion. It was universally lame other than me getting a 4WD truck stuck in the mud and having to carry JR a mile back to the house. At least we had a good time throwing rocks in the creek. And that was before I started drinking.

Sounds like a Bakersfield area reunion. Wait, this was in Texas, right? Same diff.

Went up to the Metroplex last night for a party. It's starting to wind down, and a guy says "Let's go to the casino." Our host is down, and everybody looks at me. I'm spending the night, so I'm certainly game. It's only 40 minutes further north from Denton.

Winstar is gigantic. MGM Grand seems cozy by comparison. When designing it, they apparently could not decide on a theme, so they used all of them. The London-themed section had the best video poker, and the best air conditioning. And I hit another royal, this one a progressive for $1121.32. :loco:

Thinking about checking out last-minute deals to Vegas for the holiday weekend. I am incandescent right now.

I live 45 mins from Winstar and have never been. Need to go. Driving to Austin tomorrow. Any suggestions from Austin GMTANers on a place for a late dinner? Lap dance?

sorry to hear you fly coach.

Going to need a 3-4 day summary pls. I can do if nobody else can assuming I dig deep and stroke hard.

Ex-wife's car (a Durango that has broken down several times, needed a new transmission, etc - horrible gas mileage, awful post-divorce purchase) breaks down on the coast of Oregon this weekend. She won't be getting back until Sunday at the earliest. She's out there with a cop she's been seeing off and on since we split in Dec '07. He has played her something fierce the entire time. He talked her into wiring him money once when he was in New Orleans. Neat guy.

Anyhow, she asks me if I can take care of her dog with the boys and if we can take them for her Sat. night. No problem on both. I love having the boys, so an extra night is fine. Taking care of the dog means I was checking in on the shape of the house. The house I'm taking over in about a month. The backyard is an absolute nightmare of a mess. The weeds are waist high. She has neglected any yardwork this entire spring and she wasn't any good at it the last few years. I took pictures of this. And then I called my old land crew guy who agreed to meet me there and take care of it all for a fair price.

I wish I knew a guy that could build a good path.

Can you guys walk me through building a deck ("HOLD ME DECKKKKKK!")

Default position for a late dinner is Kerbey Lane Cafe. If it's so late that breakfast sounds good, their mocha chocolate chip pancakes (GM>hi) are awesome. On the other thing, the Yellow Rose.

blackened wild sock-eye salmon last night on my sister's grill. Her ex left the grill in horrendous shape; so bad, in fact, that the scalding hot lid slipped off, forcing me to try and halt it's fall. I now have matching Stigmata marks on both wrists. Salmon was excellent. We are getting incredible deals on the wild caught sock-eye. 8 minutes on a hot grill with some blackened seasoning...mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

congrats on the superfecta.Go talk to Home Depot or Lowes about a deck. They show you the basics and let you know what tools. materials and skills you need in hopes of selling you all the materials and tools you will need. At the very least its a good way to get an idea of the scope of the project and the budget you'll need. With your climate I'd sure be tempted to get some of that man-made lifetime warranty decking. Or figure a way to do a concrete patio you would like.

Going to a Titty Bar in Austin is like using a bookie in Vegas. The gals there are so pretty and friendly and outgoing that you don't really need to waste the money at a strip club there. I witnessed a very pretty young girl flash the bar on a Mardi Gras bet at bar across from Antones. That counts for like 100 pairs of nudie club boobs. :excited:

Good point.

I don't think those are rosemary plants. I have no idea, though. I'll smell them and report back. We're going to try and plant a lot of things back there, after we clear out the weeds and till the soil. Those kids haven't been on that swing set in 4 years. Feel sorry for the neighbors who have to look at this eyesore. All gets cleaned up this week.

As far a s japanese maples, go to a local nursery and tell them about your layout and what you want to do. They will probably recommend some local things that you will be very happy with and will thrive in your yard.. Introducing / propagating non-native species can be really detrimental.

I'll take a PM. Although GM makes a good point as well.

Go talk to Home Depot or Lowes about a deck.
This wouldn't be my advice.
WHo else is going to spend time walking a complete noob thru the costs etc.? I'm not saying to use them for the actual deck build, I'm saying use them as a resource to learn about building a deck. It may take more than a single trip to find a knowledgeable/helpful guy.Or he could find a good novel about deck-building. But I imagine he's more likely to drive to the local lumber big box.
