The college soccer players laughed...which was enough for me. You have to figure that this crowd, probably about 200 people, is super nerdy. There is one team that's more like your typical neighborhood bar trivia night people. The rest are dorky or stiff shirts. Each team has 10 players. 7 people on my team have Ph.Ds. There's a music round where they'll play 30 seconds of a song and then you have to answer two questions. Usually you have to name the artist and some other factoid. The first song they played was "Los Angeles" by X. I started giggling like a school girl while my teammates shrugged. We had to name the band and the singer/bass player. I wrote down the answer in about 3 seconds and handed to our recorder. Someone asked "Are you sure?" I said "Yeah...considering I almost wore a concert t-shirt with this band playing right now on it."
Two songs later they played "Jane Says". I told the guy next to me "If they play a Pixies song I'm pretty much going to start touching myself." I think I scared him a bit.
I also shocked myself by knowing that Tommy Lasorda coached the Olympic baseball team in 2000. I also stunned my team by knowing the name of Ian Fleming's estate in Jamaica (Goldeneye) and that Bruce Jenner was on CHiPs.
What was I most proud of? Figuring out at "half-time" that the drink tickets and the raffle tickets were exactly the same. I had only bought $10 worth of drink tickets since I was trying to pace myself. Once I decided that I wanted more than 3 beers they had stopped selling drink tickets. After they did the raffle I helped myself to the pile of losing tickets on our table and used them for beer. Now that was smart.

With all the rain you get, you should probably go just with seed. All the water it takes to get sod started should probably get your seed going at a fraction of the cost. Unless the area has a glut of water, you should target a lawn that you do not need to water once established. Here in texas, a well-watered lawn is despised by your neighbors during a drought. Such a waste of resources. Unsure the Portland situation.Talk to me about sod...you saw my yard. Should I re-sod it? I fed it with some weed and feed, but it was found buried deep in the garage and might not be very good. When do you add sod? What does it really do? Do I know what sod is?Pallet of Zoysia Empire sod coming next Saturday morning.

Bahia and Zoysia are pretty popular here in FL as extremely drought tolerant. I have been replacing what is left of the bahia in the front yard with Zoysia because it looks way better and doesn't take any more water. I timed my pallet to coincide with the usual beginning of the rainy season here, but of course I will be watering more until it's established which is ~30-45 days.If I were you, I would go seed too with a decent topcoat of soil so the birds don't eat it all. If you decide to re-sod the whole thing, you don't really have to kill the existing or take it out with a sod cutter if you don't want to. I put my sod on top of what was left of the old stuff. from time to time, but no big deal. Here is a pic of what I did last year which is half of my front lawn. I am doing the yard in pieces over time to not kill myself or pay a ####load of

I was at a meeting today where the middle school counselors come to the high school and we discuss the incoming 8th graders. One of our blowhard student assistance counselors went on a tangent about concussions ending with a story about an 8th grade suicide she heard about. Moral was that he was a football player and we need to be more careful. Someone else chimed in and said, "Yeah, that football player just did that."
Finally, I had enough, and said, "Eli Manning, right?" to see where it went. Someone said, "No, him too?" Another, "I don't think it was him." I then said, "Oh, was it is brother Peyton?" Made my Monday.

My wife had a baby boy 2 weeks ago. I am not so sure that he looks like me, but he certainly looks like his big sister (who people have claimed looks like me - poor girl). Anyway, so at least the same guy got my wife pregnant both times.
P.S. holy cow this kid poops a lot. Oh, and big sister has cried more today than little dude has since he was born. Girls are crazy.

I am calling upon the power of the GMTAN for a good cause. I will be riding in the MS150 bike ride at the end of the month to help raise money for Multiple Sclerosis research (I guess SLB's walk did not raise enough for them last year). I have a cousin who suffers from it and would love to no longer hear about her bad days.

Took a shot video when I got home with the new gf dedicated to stu and and homer but it was upside down and ####ed up. Good seeing you stu. We'll have to do another shot video when I'm not hammered next time.
I thought about trying again Saturday, but we were both too drunk. And us tag-teaming the shot block would have been a little too gay. Even for me.(Also bumping this to remind Guster of the first cornhole video shot.)

If it wasn't clear from the name this is a 150 mile bike ride over two days. Due to family obligations I will only be riding the Saturday portion, but will attempt to complete 100 miles.And everyone who donates $25 or more by midnight Friday will be entered in a drawing for an iPad.

Friday night went to a free Comedy Show in Plano at a Caribbean restaurant. It was a step up from an open mic, only because the guy that organizes it actually asks people to perform. My cousin was one of the comics. All of the comics were less than 3 years doing stand up. The crowd of about 20-25 was DEAD. Beyond dead, I have never seen a crowd more apathetic for something that they actually had to make an effort to attend.
It became an amazing, interesting, fascinating experiment watching these comics go up there, knowing they were not going to get a single laugh, and power through their act. Granted, half of the performers were horrible, but those that had a few good jokes also completely bombed. One of the female comics sat next to me most of the night and right before she went up, 7th for the night, I told her to put away her 'smart jokes', that no one was getting anything. She said she was just doing this for her and actually did a great routine. Again to no laughter.
This
made so much sense when you hear about the successful comics talking about paying their dues early on. It was like I was watching an episode of a Louie prequel show or something.
They do it every Friday night, and I am going to get sucked in to going again real soon. The hour conversation with the show promoter/comic about the progression of a comic early in their career was worth me picking up my cousin's tab all by itself.
It kind of made me think I might want to do an open mic sometime. I also thought this would be a great venue for a Dallas/Fort Worth GMTAN cornhole.

Part time, one or two days a week, 10 hour shifts. You get 32% commission + tips. Which means drivers usually make like $70 a day + any tips they make. So I'm thinking what? $90 for a 10 hour shift, or $9 an hour. If I do two days I could bring home an extra $140 a week after taxes? Maybe a bit less. This is all guesswork. I suck with numbers.
$9 an hour is pretty bad though.
Yet, there's a weird allure to driving a cab. Maybe it's the old writer in me, but I'm betting there's some great stories to be found on that job. Plus I hating working with a supervisor in my face and during those 10 hours you're basically on your own.
I have to be crazy for considering it. It has come to this.

I did the same thing. Before you order, go into a Trek store and get sized and sit on a couple of different models.After you decide which you like best, pick out an interchangeable rack, trunk, 2 waterbottle cages, 4 water bottles, and anything else you may want. You may also want to upgrade to a more comfortable saddle. Stock ones are tiny and hard (like your penis) so you may want to get one that has a little more cushion (like your ###).You may think it is a waste getting all the extras, but do it. Your buddy gets these at a discount also. Even if you ride your bike twice and decide to sell it, with what you have to pay you will make money on it. The discount I got was like 50% MSRP.I think you are going to love it. I drove around crappy Huffy's my whole life. I hopped on my Trek and LOVED it. I actually look forward to biking now. Ride it to work every chance I get. It is awesome. Must have been 3 years ago now. I went with a Soho. LOVE IT.Almost forgot. Disc brakes.

GM - resist the urge to get a soft, squishy saddle.
You want a saddle that will focus all of your heft onto your sit bones - your ischial tuberosities are two little bony protrustions from your pelvis. Soft, squishy saddles spread the weight off of your sit bones and all over everywhere, onto your soft tissue. When you put weight on soft tissue it compresses. When you compress the soft tissue in your perineum one centimeter you cut off all blood flow to your penis. If you do this long enough, you develop scar tissue in your penis and you can't get a boner anymore. While I doubt you're going to be sitting on your bike for 5 hours at a time, take it from a guy who knows - even an hour or two can be enough to, when you get home from your wife, have one of those "THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME!!11" moments. Then sitting on a hard saddle doesn't seem so bad.
