GM's thread about nothing (21 Viewers)

Thanks, Drifter--very helpful. First phone screen is with a VP & AGC in Legal rather than a recruiter. I'll PM you for more...but not tonight as I'm drunk. Don't hold that against me. I do need to further understand the process but hesitate to ask too much of them yet. But I don't want four full days of in-person interviews like I had for this job. :(
Definitely PM me. I play softball with one of the VP/AGCs. There's 8, not including our lobbyist and the EU AGC, so there's a small chance I could put in a good word.

whoops. Addressing now
No big deal. I had nothing specific, just looking for any general pointers/warnings. I'm still not sure how interested I am other than loving the idea of being in Seattle and working in a "real" company again. Which come to think of it, is a lot. I'm probably just scared of giving up a comfortable and lucrative situation for an unknown. It's a compelling option, though--and I'm getting way ahead of myself anyway as I'm nowhere near a job offer. I just hate wasting anyone's time, including my own.
If you really want to relocate to Seattle, these guys are (were?) looking for an experienced corporate counsel to manage their product liability docket. And I could always use an i-friend in such a position ;)

I'm trying to picture how this conversation would go.So, I hang out at this fantasy football message board - mostly during work hours - and her and I post a lot in the same thread...she'd be a great hire.

Unfortunately, the mostly during work hours part isn't as true as it used to be in previous positions.

I could use a new gig, but I'm not corporate counsel. Would they consider a burned out litigator?

I met her online. We're i-friends.
I used to have to explain this every time I got a care package from the Internet.Sadly (?), I don't anymore. SLB sent me some goods the other day and Romo was completely unfazed. He opened the box and picked through everything before I even got home. The note was just signed "Bob" and the only thing Romo asked when I got home was, "Is this from St. Louis Bob?"

I should probably remember to log out of here on our common laptops.

Worth a shot?"Candidates should have at least eight years of litigation-related experience and prior in-house legal experience is preferred."

I'll PM the info.

Too scared of conspiracy charges to say. Find an Ace Cash Direct store and get a Skylight Financial card.

I've lived in Portland for 16 years now and outside of my father who is a native Texan and has worn the same pair of cowboy boots since I was in grade school and loves them more than he loves his two children, I have yet to belly up to a bar and share a pint with a grown man adorned in the same footware Randolph Scott wore in Shootout at Medicine Bend - until yesterday afternoon when I met up with Bentley at the Urban Farmer @ The Hotel Nines. Nike doesn't exactly put out a line of goat ropers for us coffee sipping, sun averse, soft hearted Oregonians. But after our cornhole yesterday, I think I'm going to find myself a pair of the finest rooster skin roach stompers money can buy and wear them everywhere like Bentley does with his custom made turd kickers. Even with a pair of beige Shukes on, he looked much cooler than I did with my sneakers and cargo shorts.

Anyhow, our meeting was short, but long enough to power down 3-4 pints of outstanding Oregon brews. Our first topic of conversation centered around how much we hate talking about message boards out loud with others, shook on it and didn't really broach the subject at all over the course of 2 hours. We spent more time talking about what to get Bentley's angry wife (who apparently does not enjoy wine, beer, coffee, tea, sweets, oxygen, t-shirts, weather, wildlife, combustible engines, sand or spending any money at all) as a souvenir gift than we did about our fellow GMTANNERS. Although YRS did come up as Bentley was under the impression she was at Millsaps with me. Oh, and Shuke came up because he's been shuffling back and forth between his town and Austin through some sort of business merger. I had no idea Shuke was some sort of medical sales guy. I always thought he worked quality control for Little Debbie. I was, well, Shuked. Oh, and we brought up Cosjobs and Kevzilla and placed bets on which one would be the first to order a Life Alert system. We started to talk about Pickles, but things got snarky fast so we changed the subject. Woz was brought up. Oh, wait, no he wasn't. I'm confusing him with Sacamano.

And just like that, it was time to go. Cornhole count upped by one, hoping Rude Dude makes his way down souf to Portland before he heads back to Winnepig (sp?) or Thunder Bay or Utica or wherever the hell he's from so I can notch one more on my quest to overtake the Greek Tiger.

I think we probably need to tread carefully here but I think I've found some better sources. A bit cheaper as well. SHould be be a topic for :e:lsewhere?

k4> what do you mean when you say your current employer is not a "real" company?
Oh, I was being unnecessarily harsh. It's a real company. I just got spoiled by working at one of the largest companies in the world, where I had access to resources, lots of smart people, a good strategic plan, etc. My impression is that Amazon would be much more like Kraft than it would be like my current company.

I'll send a PM. Incredibly kind, but really not necessary to put in a good word. I appreciate all your guidance, though.

Thanks for looking out! I'm not a litigator, though, so would be wholly unqualified for something like that.

I rarely come on during the day any more, and all but a few hours a day are work hours for me so it's hard to distinguish anyway. :lmao: at "we're i-friends", though.

From the "you asked for it, so shut the #### up about it" file:

The Ex posted new photos on FB today. Her, some of her family, both of the kids and her new boyfriend all are on vacation. They posed for pictures, including the four of them (my ex, my kids, the new guy) with the new guy holding my daughter for the pictures. Hit me much harder than I thought it would. Still know that I did the right thing, but it was still a kick in the gut.

Going to watch Guster's SVTEASVFEAE (shot video to end all shot videos for ever and ever) about 100 times to take my mind off of it.
Super Exciting Update:Called my son this morning to wish him a Happy Birthday. After talking to him for a few minutes, and my daughter not wanting to talk, my ex got on the phone with a "Heyyyy, I have some news for you. You know, before you see it on Facebook..."

The poor old ******* proposed last night and she said yes. They will be married before November. I'm actually more OK with this than I thought I would be. She actually prodded several times trying to get me to say I was angry/sad/upset. I just simply said I was happy for her, worried that she didn't learn, but if my kids are safe and she is happy, then I am fine.

I honestly don't think so. I know she had a crush on him 10 years ago when they worked together, right before and right after our wedding, but nothing happened. Now technically, they were humpin while we were still married, but it was the two months before our divorce was final. Story time with the kids should be fun when the kids ask how and when they met.
