GM's thread about nothing (43 Viewers)

T&P's to Guster.

Congrats to bentley and the other Ranger fans. My baseball pants are still bloody and across the room.

I barely know what is going on in the Chick-Fil-A thread, but let me tell you, in the super white city of Keller, traffic was stopped and wrapped around the block at the Chicken Palace Of Hate. The parking lot was beyond full and the drive through was wrapped around the building and flowed a good block and a half down the street. Really??

Ex emailed me twice yesterday. First one was to ask for help with the car payment for the car she uses, but still in both of our names. (Not taking that in the decree was my one slipup. :wall: ) The second email was asking me to watch the kids for the first week of November, so that she can go and get married in Hawaii. My question is, if you were getting married, wouldn't you want your kids there with you?

This falls way low on the scale of importance (in light of recent cancers and broken necks, etc.), but we have been trying to sell our house in FL for the last 4-5 months. It's to the point where it's a huge financial burden to carry the mortgage and something needs to happen soon. We had a realtor contact us this morning and he's putting together an offer in the next day or two. Please send out those good GMTAN vibes if you would.

TPW, Guster. My mother is 13 years cancer-free and hers was a good bit further along than your mom's. They got aggressive with her treatment and 6 months later, she was fine. One thing to note was that I saw my big strong dad as vulnerable for the first time in my life. It tore me up inside.

While it's perhaps not scientific, I don't think that a positive mental attitude ever hurt anyone, so do what you can for your mom.
:goodposting: and thanks for all the messages i've gotten on the side too. it's a nice reminder of how great this community is

i tend to be overly optimistic, so i should be able to help my mom keep perspective.

today is going to be a great day...

i'm working from home this morning

my daughter loves gymnastics and i DVR'd the women's team event from Tuesday night. she fell asleep on the couch last night watching it part way through, so we picked it back up this morning. she was up dancing during the floor routines and cheering at the tv for the girls ("Go, Jordyn, go!"). So cute. She was booing the Russians and sorta cheering the US (she was actually saying "yay Ohio, go Buckeyes" but I wasn't going to correct her). She was super excited that they won gold and let me know that if she goes to the olmypics (which she wants to do in gymnastics, swimming and maybe diving because they get to go in a "hot pool" after the dive), she's going to win all the medals... gold, silver and bronze all at once. No one else gets a medal. I like the way she thinks

I'm on a conference call right now as my daughter watches SpongeBob.

I have another call right after this, but then it's time for the Reds game.

We have front row seats in right-center field and should see another Reds win today

She's with her mom this evening and I have a couple errands to run, but then I plan on drinking heavily. :banned:

Tomorrow is my work's annual picnic outing at the second-rate amusement park in town. Free beer all day long, yet for some reason, my friends and I tend to pregame before hand anyway. wee!

Btw, drunkHomer painting a basement bathroom is really just a recipe for disaster. I saw last night's handiwork and have been trying to fix the errors for the last hour.

In other news, I've decided to never own a home.

Haven't dared click on the gay chick-fil-a thread. But I'm guessing it's turned into another political/religious pissing contest.

A little part of me hopes that you never get a job

Truth.Since we're throwing in the good-news stories to help GBGuster feel better, I'll mention (1) my grandmother who had a double mastectomy, fine for 30 years before it came back again when she was in her late 80s, and (2) my stepmother, who had a (single) mastectomy in 2001 and is healthy and happy with no recurrence.

Yeah, that's weird. Both the Chik-fil-A thing and the no kids at the wedding thing.

Has there been an explanation of how you bust your head in the non-shallow end of the pool? Power dive? Inviscid fluid? Bending space-time?
It's an old pool and made weird. instead of sloping towards the deep end it drops off.
Was this at the house of your rich swinger friends? Have you called this guy yet?I was a lifeguard for a number of years and the one thing they drilled into us during training was to always ALWAYS run with a red buoy under your arm. The other thing they preached was the dangers of shallow diving. That's where virtually all the major swimming incidents stem from. This is why all fat guys should always go in cannon ball stayle. Leave the diving for svelt asian girls and whispy gay men.
Wait, you were a lifeguard? How much did Coppertone make that summer?
I actually wore a wet suit when I taught swim lessons. :bag:

Just got out of bed, ask my wife if she called the neurosurgeon, she did. Right at 9:30 like they told her to. Said she was waiting to hear back. I asked her what they said and she told me she left a message. Damn it, she knows better. Oh well. Probabl have to wait until tomorrow now. I'm smelly, bloody, stubbly mess right now. I guess I'll take some more percocet.

So my mom got engaged last month to a guy I've met 1-2 times that she had been dating for around 6 months. Yesterday I get a call from my dad wanting my fiancee's number so he can buy a (very expensive) engagement ring for the woman he has been dating for less than 6 months, who I have never met. He's asking me not to tell anybody else in my family (presumably my mom and sister and then his side of the family).

Really nothing for me to do/say here right? For my mom I desperately wanted to tell her NOT to sign a pre-nup and for my dad TO sign a pre-nup and set up a trust account for his intended beneficiaries, but so far I have kept out of it.

The one positive is that both "sides" are keeping the ring buying within my family so I am happy with that, but does this all sound strange to anyone?

Cos also subscribes to a theory that if you let out a massive fart, it galvanizes the percs into superaction. :lmao:

There is no percocet action without farting. The first thing the drug affects is the stomach/ lower intestine where it dissolves. When those body parts get effed up on narcotics, all the surrounding gas has a jailbreak.

That's two extra plane tickets to Hawaii, plus child care if they want to engage in adult activities. You're free babysitting.

since this is Bogart's ex, the adult activities seem unlikely.

Oh, and it looks like I'll be getting married in Maui, and we're taking the kids with us. Thought I'd put that on a tee for anyone that would like it.

so basically your main concern is that Dad doesn't give away your rightful inheritance, and Mom maybe scores a little extra for you. That about sum it up?

Guster> thoughts and prayers, GB.

Krista/Cos> as to your discussion about positive attitude, I think there are some mental/emotional factors that make a difference in recovery/effectiveness of treatment. As an example, my girlfriend recently finished her thesis on the effect of green building on education (I'll probably be the only person outside of the committee that accepts it to ever read it). One of her sources is a study of recovery rates over time at a hospital where half the recovery ward faced a view with natural light, trees, etc. The other half faced a brick wall. The people on the half that had the better view and lighting consistently recovered faster than the other half.

:lmao: I also posted on FB finally. Guess where I tagged Mrs. SLB...

I also have to say that up into the moment of this happening, it was the happiest I've been in a long, long, time. The boys had been perfect angels for 3.5 days and my wife wasn't stressed out even though she could have (the air conditioner kept breaking, Dish Network went out). It was just awesome. Plus on Sunday I really watched Cal make the next transition to adulthood. He sat around with the adults, laughed at the appropriate times, even though I know he was cluessless some of the times, and also interjected his thoughts at the appropriate times. It was pretty funny when he whispered to my wife "what's that fish I like?" (tilapia) so he could join in on the sea food talk.

Don't really want to beat a dead horse, but we weren't talking about recovery rates. Or maybe cos was, but I wasn't. I'm firmly in the YRS camp that a good attitude won't hurt anything, though. :)So more importantly, are thoprawishes/poor-dumb-******* statements officially in order for you?

I'm working from home today and am convinced that I not only get a ton more real work done (no interruptions) but that I am so efficient I can also post here.

Drifter, Amazon policy on working from home? ;)

Not completely true. If history holds form, she will let him get back home from the honeymoon before shutting it off.
