I'm mentally and physically exhausted.
About a week ago, I decided to "change concept" at Albert Oaks and move the few elderly I have here into their own "wing" of the building. Then on Tuesday I got a call asking about a room for two and Wed. three rooms for five. That gave me less than 2.5 days to convert four vacant rooms into three rooms to equal and hopefully surpass hotel rooms.
All day THur and Friday, I am running back and forth to Costco, Lowe's, Home Depot, Sam's, consignment shops, IKEA, estate sales, and trying to find decent furniture listings on Craigslist (colossal waste of time). But I got the rooms 80 percent home.
Then my mom has a stroke Friday night. Freaked me out. Called 911 and followed it to the ER. Before they loaded her into the ambulance, she fails all the tests like raising her arms and gripping their fingers. We're there for hours, but she can now pass all the tests they gave before they loaded her in the amblan.
I stay there til she's confirmed in the clear (makes no sense medically, but good news)
Get home in the middle of the night, sleep a couple hours then leave first thing in the morning to drop dad at the hosp. and visit with her a bit, then rushing off the gett hte last two beds and a dozen bath, towels, hand towels and wash cloths and a couple more sets of sheets. Go home get all those items in the laundry and start assembing the beds.
Head back up to hosp to pick up dad and get home in time to finish the assembly, then try and get all the DirecTV receivers working in all the new rooms. Also need to peel 5$ of shrimp and peel and cut 5# of potatoes into fries.
Get dinner successfully served and schmooze with the guests awhile before begging off to check on my wife who got called in to cover a shift at the hosp. Then open a few bottles of wine and share with the guests for happy hours. A nice Sauv Blanc, a Chenin Blanc, a bottle of champagne and a nice spanish garnacha.
This morning, fed 10 people breakfast to order then went and picked up my mom (whoI think they may have discharged early, she's ok, but pretty shaky). Had to go out and find another tv because i need to transfer the folks into some downstairs rooms, since I don't want them on the second floor anymore.
Luckily dinner was just burgers, so that was no huge task. Got wrapped up about 7 and went to play volleyball for a few games in 101 degrees. Had a few bottles of wine since 7 and feeling pleasantly exhausted.
This upcoming week is going to be a bear, but surely not as bad as what I just went thru.
upside- all the guest were effusive in their comments and have promised to write glowing reviews, so now I need to spend all this week getting setup on Home Stay, VRBO and/or airbnb.
Mom's ok. I'm ok. Just exhausted. I'll try an post some pics tomorrow.
