GM's thread about nothing (12 Viewers)

I save a lot of money on rental cars when I book through Costco. I don't think Rite Aid has that option (yet).

Anyone ever hear Ryan Beaver or Brian Keane?Any good?I'm trying to put together some 3 day weekend packages. I have Louis CK tix, but they're for a Thur night and I want to add a Fri night show to the deal.
I enjoy Brian Keene quite a bit. (assuming that's who you meant) He writes a lot of horror and zombie stuff. Nothing earth-shattering, but pretty good for the "genre".ETA: Keene has also corresponded with me on twitter, so I have that going for me. He's a big bourbon/cigar guy.
Probably a different guy, I doubt Antone's would book a novelist on Friday night.I'm thinking they must be regional or local. I'm so far out of the music scene I have no idea who anyone is anymore. But I sure would like to find a good Fri or Sat show that would be enticing to the demographic that would want LCK tix. That show sold out months ago.

:lmao: :lmao:I haven't used mine since last February. I keep getting robo calls from the place I got it from asking me to call them. At first I was all "GFY, you want to talk to me, call me". Now I'm wondering if I can sell this stupid thing back. According to the sleep study, I was on the fence but I figured I would try it. Didn't realize how much the thing cost.

Of course I did the sleep study sober, I'm pretty sure I'm much worse after a snifter of cognac.

Can GM or somebody put together a matrix that compares all of the drug stores? Where does Long's fit in to this?
There used to be a big Long's and a big CVS across the street from each other near here. Ended up CVS bought out the Long's. But they didn't close it. They just re-opened it as a second CVS across the street from the first.

Yeah, pretty sure that's what happened here too. In all honesty I try to avoid buying stuff at those big chain drugstores...unless it's a prescription or an OTC that you can't get at a supermarket. There are literally 3 grocery stores (Vons, Fresh and Easy, Smart and Final+) within a 1/2 mile of my house. I don't have much of a reason to go to the nearby CVS.

It was raining and I was trying to be discrete. You of all people should know how hard it is to surreptitiously take photos while cruising by a middle school.Just say you're looking for a lost puppy.

Rite Aid is just a few blocks from my house, so I got there for that reason alone. But their beer prices knock it out of the park. Add in no lines, front row parking and an excellent selection of butters, well....you just don't beat that, I'm afraid. Also, great deals on ice.

I just have no idea what the rationale is behind opening two identical stores right across from each other. It's not like one has items the other doesn't, or that the first one wasn't big enough. Both have full stock and plenty of space.

I think my city is just a black hole of the laws of economics, though. There are two gas stations on opposite corners nearby where one is always 10-15 cents more per gallon than the other and never has any cars filling up there as a result, but it's been around for at least a decade. Then there are the two competing brand money-mart stores up the street that are literally right next to each other, sharing a wall. How they both stay in business like that is beyond me.

Technically the three stores I mentioned are somewhat different. Vons is your typical supermarket. Fresh and Easy is smaller and specializes in freshly prepared foods. Smart and Final is a good place to buy in bulk without having to go to Costco/Sam's/etc. I guess it comes down to choice. There is a McDonald's, BK, Jack in the Box, Chik-fil-A, Jersey Mike's, Panda Palace, Chipotle, In-n-Out, and a Carl's junior in the same area. They all do great

Just got an email from our Portland Winterhawks:

PORTLAND WINTERHAWKS STATEMENT ON WHL SANCTIONS AND SUSPENSIONPortland, Ore. - Today the Western Hockey League has announced disciplinary action against the Portland Winterhawks for violations related to player benefits. The WHL has forfeited the team from participating in the first five rounds of the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft and the forfeiture of the team's first round picks in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017.The WHL also announced the organization has been fined $200,000, and that General Manager & Head Coach Mike Johnston has been suspended for the remainder of the season, including the playoffs. Assistant General Manager & Assistant Coach Travis Green will assume Johnston's duties on an interim basis. What follows is a summary of the league's findings, and a statement from Johnston:The Winterhawks were found to have committed the following violations: A player contract signed in 2009, involving flights for the player's family and a summer training program Over the last five years, seven families were provided flights 2-4 times per season based on financial need and their distance from Portland Twice in the last five years the team paid for two players to each have a one-week summer training regimen The Winterhawks provided a cell phone for its team captain for a period of three seasonsThe WHL's audit found no violations involving monetary payments made to players, their families or agents, or any violations related to the league's educational packages."After fully cooperating with the league's investigation, we were extremely surprised at the excessive nature of the sanctions, and we don't feel they are in line with the scope of the violations we were found to have committed," said Johnston."We believe that apart from recruiting trips and parents' weekend, there is no prohibition in the rules governing flights for players' parents, which were the majority of the infractions," continued Johnston. "We are currently exploring our options on how we will proceed. Despite our objections, the league has made its decision, and our players will continue to pursue the goal of winning a WHL championship."

Cheating at minor league hockey? That's what we do, man. :excited:
Losing 5 1st round draft picks? those were some really expensive flights.
Yeah, I don't get minor league hockey at all. They draft too? I thought the NHL drafted players and farmed them out. Hoping Charv explains this all to me in a couple of weeks. They are treating this NCAA violations.
Sounds like your hockey coach is angling for a Div. 1 AD position.

the kids they draft are like 14 years oldhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WHL_Bantam_Drafthttp://whl.ca/whl-bantam-draftNHL can't draft a kid until he turns 18. By that point, they are usually already playing with a major junior team, in Europe, or in the NCAA.

lolMrs. SLB had some friends, one of the neighbors, and my Mom over last night. I didn't get home until 8 or so and they were all drinking wine. I've known the gals since HS and my Mom for quite awhile. Anyway, right when I walk in the door, my cousin's 10 yo daughter is standing right there, she gives me a hug and kiss. I then make my way around the room giving the gals a kiss. Then I get to our neighbor who just happened to be last. I was about skip her but she made this "uh um" sound and raised her eyes at me. She tilted her head back and I could have gone for the lips but felt weird and so I kissed her on the cheek. I then went downstairs and worked for two more hours.

Bet you wish you didn't know now right?

You have no idea. In-n-Out is the worst. Carload after carload of rubes fouling up the parking lot and exits.
Have you ever had Culver's? Best fast food burgers around IMO. Keep hearing about how awesome In-n-Out is and have wanted to try it.As far as the original question, I'm pretty sure the theory is that they may head to place A but then decide to go to place B,C or D instead. We have a Lowes and a Home Depot right across the street from each other in 3 spots that I know of.
