Okay boys and girls. NFL betting is not a strength of mine, so this is probably great fade material, but I have placed a nice size wager on NE -4 for next week.

Texans have no healthy starting linebackers. They lost another CB last week. They may get Joseph back this week, but even if they do, he has been out a few weeks now. Jackson is better then the past 2 years, but he's still subpar. And they get to travel this week to play the most prolific offense in the nfl. unless Watt, Cody, Smith are able to get huge pressure every down, I see no reason Brady doesn't pick them apart.

why is it called a spelling bee anyway?

Tough call. Probably not before the 2 week mark I would say. With the holidays coming up, I may even wait til early January. I would try to find the sweet spot between showing interest and not seeming desperate

I'll update on my day when I'm less...oh, I don't know. Angry, I guess. I did not Maguire it but we're almost at a Norma Rae moment at the company instead. Actually, I don't remember what that movie was about. Maybe more of a Peter Finch in Network moment. Yet another VP quit today.

Perhaps-only-amusing-to-me aside: I was reminded today that during my rant to my boss on Friday, I told him that the only things I cared about at the company at this point were him, Dirk (direct report to me), Jason (guy in Finance who's a good friend), and "that squirrel that jumps from tree to tree outside my window every morning".

Really, though, that squirrel is pretty awesome.

He ends up hanging and swinging from a branch and then making his way along; every day I think we'll have smushed squirrel. It's quite beautiful to behold. Ballsy little MFer.Sure, it doesn't compare to having 30 weeks off a year, but it's what I have.

Sometimes my wife is worse than I am. And by "worse" I mean funnier.

I have a great-nephew (yeah, I'm old). He's my oldest brother's daughter's kid. We'll call him Jake. Love the kid to death but between my mom, my niece, and all of the rest of this kid's grandparents he's a little nancy-boy.

He's my mother's only great grandchild she babys the hell out of him. Unfortunately she watches him about 4 days a week while my niece works/goes to school. The kid is 4 1/2 and my mom still calls him "Baby-Jake".

Perfect example: This Summer we were all at a family get-together and hanging out by the pool. Jake was walking towards the shallow end of the pool. My son and I were standing less than 10 feet from him. He's not even 3 feet from the edge of the pool (and wearing a floaty-vest) and my mom says "Jake, stop!"

I tell her "Mom, he's fine. We're right here". Not to mention the kid won't go in the water unless he's clinging to someone. Then I said "What's the worst that will happen? He'll fall into the pool and I'll yank him out in 5 seconds."

My mom replies with "But I don't want him to get scared!".

Anyway, this whole thing really bugs my wife. She can't stand how this kid is being coddled, spoiled, babied, etc.

Tonight we were talking about how "odd" he looked in a video someone posted of his pre-school Christmas pageant.

My wife was going on about how she's losing hope for the kid. She's talking about how he's going to get picked on a lot when he gets to grade school. Then she drops this.

"And I hope they don't try to 'butch him up' by putting him in karate or something. That never works. All you end up with is a little f[rhymes with maggot] that knows karate."

I was at the local Red Devil Pizza the other day, sitting at the bar with my girlfriend, when I looked to my right and saw this creature behind me. I was mesmerized. I knew I must capture this creature on my fairly new Samsung Galaxy S III immediately. I pretended to take a picture of my girlfriend's new glasses and she pretended to pose. As I snapped the picture, the specimen just happened to look up. As I saw the instant image, I was sure I was done for since he was looking right at me. It turns out I just happened to capture his likeness for a miraculous moment, and he continued at his task, unknowing.
