GM's thread about nothing (28 Viewers)

My daughter ordered a hamburger on her own the other night at a local burger place. After her hot dog, she decided she wanted a hamburger. Told me to stay at the table, walked up to the counter, and told the lady that she wanted a "hangurber." She did have to come back to get my credit card, but she did a good job. I don't think I ever ordered any food when I was 2.5. Like Frosty's first kid, she yammers non-stop.

Of course, she never ate it. So we took it home and I had it for lunch the next day. :hifive:

 Pretty sure if I had tried to order extra food as a kid (at any age) my mom would have thought I was crazy. She thought the The Great Depression lasted up until the 1990s.

Nice

Sometimes my wife is worse than I am. And by "worse" I mean funnier.I have a great-nephew (yeah, I'm old). He's my oldest brother's daughter's kid. We'll call him Jake. Love the kid to death but between my mom, my niece, and all of the rest of this kid's grandparents he's a little nancy-boy. He's my mother's only great grandchild she babys the hell out of him. Unfortunately she watches him about 4 days a week while my niece works/goes to school. The kid is 4 1/2 and my mom still calls him "Baby-Jake". Perfect example: This Summer we were all at a family get-together and hanging out by the pool. Jake was walking towards the shallow end of the pool. My son and I were standing less than 10 feet from him. He's not even 3 feet from the edge of the pool (and wearing a floaty-vest) and my mom says "Jake, stop!" I tell her "Mom, he's fine. We're right here". Not to mention the kid won't go in the water unless he's clinging to someone. Then I said "What's the worst that will happen? He'll fall into the pool and I'll yank him out in 5 seconds."My mom replies with "But I don't want him to get scared!". Anyway, this whole thing really bugs my wife. She can't stand how this kid is being coddled, spoiled, babied, etc.Tonight we were talking about how "odd" he looked in a video someone posted of his pre-school Christmas pageant. My wife was going on about how she's losing hope for the kid. She's talking about how he's going to get picked on a lot when he gets to grade school. Then she drops this."And I hope they don't try to 'butch him up' by putting him in karate or something. That never works. All you end up with is a little f[rhymes with maggot] that knows karate." :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
Oh...Wife and I were Xmas shopping yesterday and the question of what to buy this kid came up. My wife wanted to text my niece and ask. I told her "No, I'm his uncle. It is my duty to try to give him balance.". I bought him an age-appropriate RC motorcycle. I also wanted to get him something sports and/or violence related but the wife wanted to get him some clothes so we compromised. I picked out a cool retro=looking Spiderman hoodie and a Star Wars t-shirt/thermal thing.

So "manning" him up you bought him some nerdy Comic book clothes.....Poor kid definitely has no chance ;)

Tenn -1.5 tonight? the Jets are horrible, but the Titans are less horrible right?
What Im feeling and the Over (41.5)
Why the over? I think both offenses are pretty bad......
Both offense have been stagnant but both defenses are vulnerable. I feel like we could see some turnovers in this one that lead to easy points. I suspect with Locker in that the Titans will take some shots down field. Only fear is that this turns into a turnover/ground & pound game. Line on SB just came down from Titans -1.5 / 41.5 to even/41

I see your point. Hey, it's better than the clothes he's normally put in. Puppies and firetrucks and stuff.

The following people are to be released from their captors: In Northern Ireland, the seven members of the New Provo Front. In Canada, the five imprisoned leaders of Liberte de Quebec. In Sri Lanka, the nine members of the Asian Dawn movement.

Asian Dawn? The one that rhymes with Don?

I am convinced that I need to buy a gun after reading the liberal rhetoric in this thread. People can believe anything they want but the main stream media propaganda is just sickening. The media in this country needs to go. It is a curse on a free socity. You want to see another civil war? Start taking away the 2nd amendment. The founders were SPOT on when they instructed Americans that the right to bear arms shall NOT be infringed upon. I cannot for the life of me understand how anyone with a lick of sense would give this government any trust to protect your rights. You want to go live in a society without a 2nd amendment, you have plenty of choices. You think the events of last Friday are tragic? What about the millions of children that have been aborted? What about the filthy process of late term abortions? Where is the outrage for that blood shedding? I am sick to my stomach as to what has happened to these children. I am in a mode of depression over the death of these innocent children that lost their lives this past Friday. The media blames the guns BUT what about the state of the individual pulling the trigger? How does an individual kill children without mercy? What is the root cause of such EVIL? People go after the guns but what about the filth on TV? The violence in movies and video games? The manner in which people treat each other? The NFL? The MMA? The drones that kill innocent children? The war machines that destroy women and children in the name of stopping terror? We have become a society in LOVE with violence. You give a child a life influenced by violence from the filthy media and then beat people up for 8 plus years about how bleak and depressing our economy is- what do people think is going to happen to these kids? You are willing to toss away your right to defend yourself and trust government because the media is teaching our society about being filthy, violent, porn loving and unmoralistic? People want to talk about the source of the issue- the root cause- let's start with the filthy media and a power grabbing lying government.

What's the point of Nebraska?
Well, the songs on Nebraska deal with ordinary, blue collar characters who face a challenge or a turning point in their lives. Unlike Springsteen's previous albums, very little salvation and grace is present within the songs on the album. However, Nebraska remains one of the most highly-regarded albums in his catalogue.Take it for what it's worth.

My dog likes to run full-speed into the house after being outside for a while. I just let her in, and the ground is really wet as it has rained for most of the day, and she was really flying this time, and when she went to make the turn toward my office, she skidded across the wood floor and slammed head first into the wall at full speed. I freaked out a little, went to see if she's okay, and it's like nothing happened. She's wagging her tail and looking up at me, hoping I'll give her more food.

When, oh WHEN will people learn to have a camera running when letting a wet dog in onto a wood floor?:shakeshead:

Secret

My daughters first original song. Lyrics and music written by her and she did some of the engineering as well.

So freaking proud
That was really good. Great rainy day music.

Thanks!
Bob, used the Zia's pasta sauce the other day. Good stuff.

Sauce with linguica over penne. I'm pretty damn cool.

I sharted today at work. Went to the bathroom, cleaned up, tossed the drawers in the trash.

I told my wife, she asks me: "Where are your underwear?" I said, I threw them in the garbage.

She's like "WHY??? Why wouldn't you just roll them up and put them in your pocket?"

At what age can I expect the words to start? I suppose I can look this up elsewhere but I get exposure to the outside world pretty much completely from this place.
2'ish generally
1 :flex:
first baby seems to start earlier. ours was full of words, sentences even, by 18 months. second one was slower.. lots of jibberish until around 2. in the last month she has exploded with words, sentences, understanding commands, etc.every kid is different. i'd say around 1 you can expect the first "words" like "mama" and "dada" but for a long while it will be hard to understand and only parents will know what their kid is saying. it all starts to clear up by around 2 (generally) for most kids.eta: i imagine Trebaby has the same giant cranium as his father. more brain = more room for words.

My boy is at 2 years, 4 months and still isn't talking much. He says only a few words and does a lot of pointing. We read to him all the time and try to get him to repeat words and he does ok but realistically only has a recognizable vocabulary of probably 5 words or so. We actually have a speech therapist who comes to see him every other week or so and we've made progress with sign language, which I thought would be the last thing you'd want to do but apparently it helps teach him the power of language and communication and might hurry the process along. It's completely free as long as he's under the age of 3, so YSR you might want to have your relatives look into it.

We aren't really concerned about it because he is clearly very bright (the therapist said she's rarely seen a kid his age pick up signing so quickly) and he doesn't show any other signs of autism (biggest concern for me with the not talking) and I'm sure at some point he'll just start going and the flood gates will open. I think the biggest problem is his sister, who started talking fluently at 1.5 years old and hasn't shut up for 5 minutes the last three years.
My daughter is in the same boat. 19 months, weekly speech therapy.
Ugh, seeing that you guys were so proactive about this makes me feel even worse for the kid. I will try to suggest something along these lines, but I have to walk a pretty fine line when it comes to making recommendations (I'm "not a mother" so I don't know what I am talking about, there is a lot of denial, and just a general lack of common sense).
every kid is so different. some kids are natural introverts. some are more expressive. if the kid seems to get it in other ways, the language will come.

suggesting speech therapy for your nephew could be off-putting. but spending time with him reading books, or buying them books and such would be great. my :2cents:

Lots of misconceptions and anecdotal wisdom about speech delay. E ven kids who seem to "get it" will still benefit from early intervention with speech therapy. No offense, GB, but ignoring it and hoping with good intentions that one day things will just click is a bit misguided.
