GM's thread about nothing (26 Viewers)

Big moment in parenting happening right now. I'm about to give my 15-year-old son permission to get a ride with another kid into downtown Baltimore (10-12 miles away) after school today to go to a high school hockey game and get dinner afterward. Feel nervous doing it, but I can't just keep him sheltered his whole life. My wife is going to hate this - she is home sick today with a stomach bug, so I'm just going to put off telling her about my decision for as long as possible. That always works out great.
Distract her by throwing on the boxed set of Homicide: Life on the Street.

What the hell is in the GMTAN water lately? My wife is 35 weeks pregnant and has gestational diabetes so she has two different doctor visit each week. Today she had high blood pressure at both so they wanted her to go to the hospital to monitor it over night. Well it was staying high so they started talking about doing the C-section tomorrow, gave her a steroid shot to help the babies lungs develop sooner. Doctors all talked and I think the best case scenario now is that she will be in the hospital for two weeks while they continue to monitor her. IF they make it to week 37 then they will take out the baby.Normally this wouldn't be as big an issue as my parents would drop everything to take my 2 daughters during the day so I can go to work. However they are in Florida on vacation. My MIL is bat #### crazy so no way in hell I call her. My sister and the one SIL I would call to help both work during the day. I think I might have to start calling my wifes mom friends out of the blue, whom I have never met. to see if they can watch the girls during the day.I know this pales in comparison to Otis's baby related issue, but I had to do something to get it off my chest. Now back to our regularly scheduled naming of random sports players.
My daughter is absolutely saving my wife's sanity in all of this. She has said that multiple times. I don't know how someone with no children deals with this.
:( :( :( Hang in there guys. :kicksrock:

Any if you guys ever deal with your wife having a miscarriage pretty far into pregnancy? At the hospital now. Wife is 5 months pregnant with what should be our second girl. In and out of the hospital past week or two with some seemingly minor issues, discharged yesterday after the full anatomy scan and ultrasound declaring the baby perfectly healthy. Back in the hospital tonight with my wife having contractions and going into labor. Obviously way too early to be viable. Instead of being home in bed we're listening to the nurse read us the official form which tells us that in NY state you have to bury the baby if it is beyond 20 weeks (ours is literally 20 weeks and a day today). Just awful. My poor wife has been through hell with this pregnancy. Life is ####### bull#### sometimes. I dunno. Just had to share.
Very sorry to hear, man. We went through it but nowhere near that late.
Thanks, and thanks all for the TPW. We had one earlier in the year, but only at 8 weeks, and so it didn't sting like this. After the first trimester you're supposedly 99% in the clear, and so we had names picked, cans of paint in the nursery, interviewing nannies, etc. The baby was perfectly healthy. Was just a freak problem with the placenta that caused my wife to deliver too early. Another 6-8 weeks and we'd have been OK.What can you do but :shrug:The reality is hitting my wife a lot harder today now that all the drugs have worn off. She's strong, but this was tough to go through after she was already pretty upset from the first miscarriage earlier in the year. I've been taking time from work to be here for her. I guess I'll have to go back in on Monday, and unfortunately have a bunch of travel I need to make through the rest of January, but I can at least be here for her the next few days, and I'm lining up family to make sure they check in on her/spend time with her while I'm on the road.
Really sucks man...it happened to Mrs. TF's friend on the same day you posted...she was at 20 weeks as well. Has to undergo surgery today. Focus on your daughter and hopefully that should ease it a bit. She should be 2 in March right (I think she's a day or two apart from my boys). Fun age...so at least you have a bit of a distraction

If you don't mind me asking, how old are you and your wife?

Perceptions are funny. After living here for 13 years, I'm not worried about the Baltimore part of the trip. I'm way more worried about putting my kid on the highway at rush hour in a car driven by some other kid.

Me 37 her 29. Plenty of at bats left.

Plus, "downtown" isn't near the biggest problem area in Baltimore. Now if he were going out Edmonson Ave or to Pimlico.....

From the parenting teenagers category...wouldn't it be fun if last night your one step kid (13 year old boy) told you that your older step kid (15 year old girl) lost her virginity while she was staying at a girlfriends house over winter break and while she told him she would kill him if her mom and I found out he told you anyway cause he figured some adult ought to know. I am sure that was exactly what my wife wanted to hear about from me late last night before I checked out from consciousness for 12 hours + with this cold/flu thing. Should be fun coming up with ways of not letting her sleepover that girl friends house again.... the one where the parents let teenagers of opposite sexes stay the night.Yes homer this is in Ohio and no I won't give you an address.

Slap the 13 year old upside his weaselly head.

:goodposting: Really sorry to hear, man. Can we help troubleshoot on where to park your daughters so you can be with your wife and baby? Does the hospital know some options? How old are your daughters? Do you want one of us to sit with them to help you out? Maybe Krista can job search and sit with them in Chicago? Guster could road trip to you with his daughter, run a daddy day care and write several long books. Perhaps St. Louis Bob could drive up and run Dive Camp for a week? I bet there some great bar-tending gigs for...you know what, skip that one. Rudniki could try and get them on FBG staff to help even out the middle-aged maleness of the group? Seriously, wishing you the best.
:lmao: Thanks for the ideas. I had not thought out all the possible new options I had from this place. If we were closer to Feb 2, I would just ship them down to CosHole for a few extra weeks. My 4 year old knows how to get daddy a "pop" from the fridge.

Jesus...that's not going to be any fun. So glad I don't have a daughter.Oh, wait.

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: Our dog has a nasty habit of going outside, finding and then ingesting his poop. We have to be very diligent about picking it up or he'll scarf it down like a fine cheeseburger.
Our dog is the same way. I don't blame her - who doesn't like a hot lunch?If/when she pukes after doing this, sometimes I can't really tell if I'm cleaning up dog vomit or dog poop. But it's great either way!

I need some lawyerly advice....Most of you know my mom died last year. We are finally getting around to selling the house. My sister moved out and now we are getting ready to sell.In her will she stated that the house be split between us 4 siblings. We are all good with that.Do we have to go to probate? What does this even mean? How do we go about getting the house into my sister's name who was named executor so we can sell it?Do we need a lawyer if we all agree with the will? She wasn't rich so we aren't talking about a lot of money, under $200k total if that means anything.
Really the only way to avoid probate with real estate is if the property was in a trust at the time of death, or only one of the joint owners died. Only the probate ct can appoint your sister executor. The will is almost always followed on this if there is one, but the will can't make the appointment. Only the ct can. You'll probably want a lawyer even if you all agree, but it should be *fairly* inexpensive. You need to file an application to have your sister appointed and the will probated. Once she's appointed, she can deed the property to herself individually after giving appropriate notices and assuming there are no claims against the estate. At least, that's how it works in my state. My official advice, of course, is to find a lawyer licensed in your jurisdiction who has experience with these matters. I'm just an internet lawyer.

I'm heading up to the mountains to go skiing with my old Marine Corps buddies. I was never in the Marine Corps though. What could possibly go wrong?

My sister miscarried four times in order to get her two girls. One of them was about six months along. I have nothing to say that will make it easier, but she's got two beautiful, healthy fun girls that are friggin' awesome. Gll GB.

So does anyone have this flu I keep hearing about? Can someone link me to the Ham influenzalypse thread
Ahem.
Talked to my BIL about this last night. Apparently the flu shots do work against this strain, so I'm getting one for the first time ever this afternoon.

Be sure to yell "Hooah" a lot so you can fit in
He's hanging out with Marines not blind Al Pacino.
Al Pacino's blind? Can't beleieve I missed this. How sad
Really shows just how great of an actor he is.

Also, he'll eat the litter box if we leave the garage door open a crack. Other than that, he's a fine canine. Just don't let him lick you.
Ours has a more discerning palate - he knows better than to eat what he ####s, but he simply cannot resist the greasy cat turds left in the front yard by the neighborhood stray. But they keep reminding us that a dog's mouth is cleaner than a human's.

Bogart..hows your maaaamma? (Ribby voice). Looking for a positive update.
Mom is not doing well. We are actually pulling her off the ventilator tonight and letting her finally rest for good. She has been sick for years, in constant pain for years and the last nine months without her soulmate have been about as much as one person can handle. She is ready to go find him again. I'm at peace removing the machine, my guilt lies in putting her on it to begin with and keep her selfishly here for the last eight days. She has no fight left, and you could tell. It will be a hard few days coming up, but there will be some peace at the other end. Thanks to everyone in here for their support over the last year and change. First the divorce, then my stepdad, double hernia thrown in, and now my mom, I feel like a Debby Downer. But it has been nice to come in here and scream, yell and :wall: instead of going off and doing it in the real world.I promise much positive content and multiple shot videos in the near future.
