ABC nightly news on a story about toxic smog in China compared Beijing to the US' most polluted city.. Bakersfield
How the #### can he count that many stars through all the smog? I'm calling bull####.
that's some strong belief system he has. it's a wonder Tanner turned out to be such a mess.
Hey, we (me, 2 brothers, 1 sister) were all raised Catholic although not all that hardcore. This thing he's got going on now comes from this Baptist mega-church he joined about 10 years ago.

Just got back from Boston. Feel like I did a middling to bad job on that interview. I was tired, hungover, just not feeling it. Unfortunately the further along I got into the day, the more interested I was in the job and the more it seemed like a great fit. I figured all of this out too late, though. :(
Write them a letter/email explaining this. They will hopefully view you in a more empathetic, positive framework. Sounds as if you have nothing to lose, only a chance to be there in an even better position than your current one.
Dear Prospective Employer,Thank you for the opportunity to interview with your firm. I was not completely sold on this job going in, so I went ahead and got fit-shaced the night before. You may have noticed I was a bit hung over early in the day (I didn't call anyone a dickmitten, did I?), but did you see how I rallied in the afternoon? That's gotta count for something, right?! Rest assured, this will probably not happen too often once you hire me. As my good friends from the innernets can attest, I am very reliable. I think you will find my references to be impeccable, though be forewarned that Julio's messages can be a little confusing at first. Looking forward to the next round of interviews.YIC,K

p.s. please fax Julio a Red Sawx hat

So we're going to have a contest to see who gets a letter published in Tanner's hometown newspaper now? Challenge accepted, sir. Challenge accepted.

Random stuff...

Wife broke her tailbone this week. She's having a lot of trouble getting around. What sucks is that she is in a lot of pain and has to take something for it. I think I've documented here in the last six months that her previous neurologist was really overprescribing narcotics for her so we switched to a new doctor who doesn't believe in them. She has had a very tough road and now I feel this is a setback.
dad flipped a golf cart and broke his. he's a tough guy and he was in a bad way for months.gllllllllllllll
Sweet.

One of the cool perks of my job is that I can buy/sell new bikes a lot and I don't lose money. Sometimes even make a little. So I'm always on something new and fun. Today I just got myself a new full suspension MTB that's intended for descending. I also found a bus route to the top of a hill close to my work that has about 11 miles of singletrack trail down a hill toward my work. So I can take the bus a couple hours earlier and blast down a hill in the morning on a badass bike. Oh, and I'm going skiing tomorrow. Just got a seasons pass, going to get up once a week for the next three months.

someone want to explain these USAA auto insurance commercials"i earned mine over the Pacific in 1943...""i got mine in Bataan, 1942.."
Until a few years ago you or someone in your immediate family had to be an officer(retired, active, honorably discharged) in the US armed forces to join USAA. They are noted for their great customer service.
the commercial makes it sound like the original holder died and it was passed on to their heirsis that right?
Well, yes, that's what the commercial sounds like, but no, the servicemember does not have to have died for his family members to get the benefit. One of the guys in one of the commercials is still alive. But it definitely is poorly written enough that it sounds like some dude's dad died in the Bataan Death March and it saves him $50 on insurance.

He died for our free[auto insurance]dom.

Correct. My wife is a member as her father was an officer in the army.

BAKERSFIELD NEEDS 5 WALMARTS!?!?!?!?!?!!11!??

I don't know if I mentioned that I went to my HS alma mater to give a talk a couple of weeks back. I spoke to the Latin and Criminal Justice classes about practicing law and what I thought they ought to study if they wanted to do the same.Today I got a thank you card in the mail. Each of the teachers wrote one sentence. Every kid except one simply signed his name. I feel like he's a future GMTANner. In careful print, he signed: "Thinking of you --Rob Daniels"

My wife went back to work today so I took a half day off and am hanging out with Hazel. She and her mom are VERY bonded, so this should be interesting. No tears so far, but it's early in the ballgame. We need the money, but I hate that we have to do this. I know it has been very hard on my wife to go back.
I always wish I was rich enough that Jax didn't have to work. Someday hopefully.
We gave it a good ride, but we've reached a point where we cannot swing it financially anymore. Now, the GREAT news is that March 1st represents the last time I ever have to make a payment to my ex-wife (currently paying her rent), so that will be like getting a raise. But yeah, the past year and change has been atrocious for me financially and I'm pretty sure I've developed ulcers and other stress induced ailments.

And then there is this....The same weekend of Coshole, my oldest and best friends from HS are throwing a Super Bowl party in Dallas, where the guest of honor will be our good friend Judson, who is dying of hyper aggressive brain tumors. I was emailed an invite today, but I told them I couldn't make it and to give Judson a big hug for me. If they find out I'm in Austin during the same time frame, I could be in real jeopardy of losing friends I've had since the mid-80s. So if we could just pass on any facebook postings mentioning my whereabouts during this weekend, I'd be forever grateful.FML indeed.

I thought you were originally making a visit to your buddy in Dallas during the same trip? Change of plans?Sounds like a road trip would be a good idea.

I don't know what to do. I wasn't going to go to Texas at all due to finances, but I pricelined a ticket on Friday and was shocked that it got accepted. But my window is limited and I don't have flight flexibility. If I drive up to Dallas on Sunday, I'm going to have to drive back to make my flight and that doesn't sound wise. I feel sick right now.

Ah yes, the constant tension between real life and interweb life. If you're choosing Coshole over that, I think you've been integrated into the Matrix.

When is your flight back, and from where?

Well, to be fair, the email just came in to my inbox today, so I really didn't know about this until AFTER I bought the plane ticket. And as I said, I used priceline for this, which means I'll have very little flexibility with the ticket. I'll do some thinking today and see if perhaps I can manage to hit Coshole for Fri/Sat and then cruise up to Dallas Sunday. I have a 7am flight out of Austin on Monday, connecting through Houston...maybe I can pull this off somehow.

I wouldn't mind driving to Dallas and back on Sunday if it helps you out. If you can board in Houston it would be even easier.

That's a pretty tall order, Charv. Let me noodle on this some more today and get back to you. I really appreciate the gesture, but man, that's asking A LOT.

what time does the flight leave Houston?seems like a drive to Dallas and then to Houston might work if you can hitch a ride with Charv.

I recently started watching Arrested Development on Netflix. Buster Bluth is awesome.
Man, I can't get into this show. Lord knows I've tried.
I'm sure there's an episode of "Baby Bob" on somewhere right now for you.**I never thought Arrest Development was as great as everyone says. Good show but not great.
It took me about 4 episodes before I really started to like it. I agree, it's good but not great... at least not yet. I'm on episode 17 or so of the first season.

8:52am Monday morning....can I miss the first leg of the flight from Austin to Houston without calling the airline?
I think so. They usually give you separate boarding passes in these situations. I guess you could call to confirm that it's alright if you do decide to do it.

That's quite the conundrum. Sorry about your friend btw. I assume "Judson" is a fake name - sounds like one of Tanner's kids.
Before I was born my mom was going to name me Judson. Thankfully, my dad stepped in and said "We're not naming the kid Judson," and they named me something else.A couple of years ago we were up around San Antonio and saw these sweatshirts and t-shirts for a local team, Judson H.S., so I bought a few to wear home. Dad got a kick out of them; Mom not so much. One brisk autumn day I hit the driving range wearing my Judson sweatshirt and the old dude behind the counter remarks that there's a high school up around San Antonio with that name, yada yada. I say "Yeah, but I bought it as kind of a joke because my name was supposed to be Judson" and gave a chuckle as if to imply "Could you imagine?"He looks at me for a second and says "What's wrong with that? My name is Judson."All I could muster was a "It's a fine name."

Actually, I'm going to look at bus service between the cities now. that might be the wise play.
I've taken a bus between Austin/Dallas a few times in the last few years.. Extremely cheap, but you get what you pay for. Pretty smelly and there always seems to be no shortage of crying babies. But for <$20 it's not too bad. May be a better experience on a higher end bus line, I just did Greyhound. :bag:
