GM's thread about nothing (37 Viewers)

That's quite the conundrum. Sorry about your friend btw. I assume "Judson" is a fake name - sounds like one of Tanner's kids.
Before I was born my mom was going to name me Judson. Thankfully, my dad stepped in and said "We're not naming the kid Judson," and they named me something else.A couple of years ago we were up around San Antonio and saw these sweatshirts and t-shirts for a local team, Judson H.S., so I bought a few to wear home. Dad got a kick out of them; Mom not so much. One brisk autumn day I hit the driving range wearing my Judson sweatshirt and the old dude behind the counter remarks that there's a high school up around San Antonio with that name, yada yada. I say "Yeah, but I bought it as kind of a joke because my name was supposed to be Judson" and gave a chuckle as if to imply "Could you imagine?"He looks at me for a second and says "What's wrong with that? My name is Judson."All I could muster was a "It's a fine name."
"Anyone who gets stuck with that lousy name oughta get a free bowl of soup!"

Ah yes, the constant tension between real life and interweb life. If you're choosing Coshole over that, I think you've been integrated into the Matrix.
Well, to be fair, the email just came in to my inbox today, so I really didn't know about this until AFTER I bought the plane ticket. And as I said, I used priceline for this, which means I'll have very little flexibility with the ticket. I'll do some thinking today and see if perhaps I can manage to hit Coshole for Fri/Sat and then cruise up to Dallas Sunday. I have a 7am flight out of Austin on Monday, connecting through Houston...maybe I can pull this off somehow.
I wouldn't mind driving to Dallas and back on Sunday if it helps you out. If you can board in Houston it would be even easier.
That's a pretty tall order, Charv. Let me noodle on this some more today and get back to you. I really appreciate the gesture, but man, that's asking A LOT.
Don't worry about it, I don't mind. Seems not going to Dallas would be a bad play.

:hophead: That's pretty good. My wife went to Judson.

I don't know if I mentioned that I went to my HS alma mater to give a talk a couple of weeks back. I spoke to the Latin and Criminal Justice classes about practicing law and what I thought they ought to study if they wanted to do the same.Today I got a thank you card in the mail. Each of the teachers wrote one sentence. Every kid except one simply signed his name. I feel like he's a future GMTANner. In careful print, he signed: "Thinking of you --Rob Daniels"
:lmao: Bring him in. We need someone to carry the torch.
:lmao:
And then there is this....The same weekend of Coshole, my oldest and best friends from HS are throwing a Super Bowl party in Dallas, where the guest of honor will be our good friend Judson, who is dying of hyper aggressive brain tumors. I was emailed an invite today, but I told them I couldn't make it and to give Judson a big hug for me. If they find out I'm in Austin during the same time frame, I could be in real jeopardy of losing friends I've had since the mid-80s. So if we could just pass on any facebook postings mentioning my whereabouts during this weekend, I'd be forever grateful.FML indeed.
Dang, sorry to hear this GB. :(

I recently started watching Arrested Development on Netflix. Buster Bluth is awesome.
Man, I can't get into this show. Lord knows I've tried.
I'm sure there's an episode of "Baby Bob" on somewhere right now for you.**I never thought Arrest Development was as great as everyone says. Good show but not great.
Arrested Development is the best show on TV except for Breaking Bad, which is the greatest show ever, except maybe The Wire.

what time does the flight leave Houston?seems like a drive to Dallas and then to Houston might work if you can hitch a ride with Charv.
8:52am Monday morning....can I miss the first leg of the flight from Austin to Houston without calling the airline?
I think so. They usually give you separate boarding passes in these situations. I guess you could call to confirm that it's alright if you do decide to do it.
Sadly that will not work and they specifically tell you so in the terms of agreement.I left you a voicemail and sent a PM, as I have some thoughts on how to work this out. Please get ahold me when you can.

We'll make this work. I'm not opposed to renting a car for the day to go up and back. I'll just avoid teh booze, but that's a small sacrifice to pay here.

We'll have a rental car and I wouldn't be opposed to letting you borrow it. Just please don't wreck it.

I think I have the perfect solution for you, but I cannot do i without talking to you.

Also, there is a good chance that we will be on the sunrise train out of Austin on Monday, so we could possibly handle your airport drop-off as well.

GIVING!!11!

I tried watching The Wire. I got about 3 episodes it but it was too slow and depressing.

I'm leaving in 20 minutes to watch the baby for the balance of the day. I'll call you on my ride home.

I would think Judson would be better than Something Else.

You need to five The Wire 4-5 episodes to build, especially season 1. It's definitely deliberate in the build-up, but that's because it's definitely trying to be authentic both on the crime side as well as on the complex law enforcement investigation side. It's a more intellectual show, a drama rather than a more traditional, action-oriented cop show, that's for sure. It's brilliant though. No shame in it not being your cup of tea.

Bogart offered to shuttle me Monday am, but if it means he gets to sleep in a bit more, then I might hop in your car too if that's ok :excited:

GM, whenever you are done with the 5 copies of The Wire that are likely being sent to you, can you send one this way? It seems like it might be worth watching

Absolutely not. If you miss one leg of a trip, they cancel the whole thing, including a return flight if you have one. Don't ask how I know this.

Disagree. Boatloads of shame.

Moving my mom to Hospise care down the street for her last few days. The flu epidemic has made it where there just are not enough rooms in the hospital. I had hoped she would be at peace by now, but she is going out on her terms.

I'm at home again working because I still feel like hell. Got my second round of antibiotics, Levaquin this time. Finally decide to finish off the rest of the turkey noodle soup when my phone rings. "Mr. SLB, this is the nurse at Calvin's school, he's throwing up." Cool. Go get him and begins to projectile vomit as soon as we get outside.Parenting is fun.

You should have come back with "You're the nurse, you take care of him. What are we paying you for anyway?"

You should ask her the same questions.
